I wonder if Kobach is done now. Lost the governor general election and the losses the Republican Senate primary. That's not really a good track record to use as a springboard toward any significant political office.
Kobach is a cockroach. He is never going away. In the event of a nuclear apocalypse, you will still find Kobach trying to grift the remains of humanity into buying his anti immigrant plan.

Beautiful, succinct, reminds me of someone.

I'm glad to see the demsoc group in Congress is so diverse - a few years ago we had to continually hear "socialism only appeals to white people" and all that nonsense. We're continuing to build the broad-based, intersectional, working class focused political force that we've always wanted to see.

The race for the Republican nomination for Maricopa County Sheriff remains tight, with Jerry Sheridan holding a very slim lead over Joe Arpaio.
AZ... come on. I guess this is another instance of those R's poising their own general chances buy yeesh. Don't have any info on how many GOP are willing to vote for someone like that over a challenger, but if he can still edge out on republicans, man.

Why the hell would you want an 88 year old sheriff? Yes, I know it's name recognition and he's racist as hell

That's just completely bizarre to me as a Canadian where we don't elect police leaders

A lot always going on during primaries. Just like... idk, a lot.

A late one from @jonshorman and I: A 19-year-old restaurant dishwasher condemned by Kansas Democrats for saying he'd get a laugh if a former GOP lawmaker got COVID and died, is holding to a one-vote lead over an established Democrat from Wyandotte County.

In other less odd stories.

Jessica Cooper, the punitive prosecutor of Oakland County (Michigan second biggest jurisdiction), has been OUSTED in the Democratic primary by Karen McDonald, who campaigned on criminal justice reform & decreasing incarceration.

Sigh, wanted Kobach to win so Dems could add KS Sen to their column.

But on the other hand I'm happy he's more or less out of politics now.

$220 million in TV, $60 million digital. From the story:

"The $220m TV buy dwarfs Hillary Clinton's $80m reservation in 2016."

I thought the same about Cuccinelli and Trump found a place for him where he could still do damage. Because of course he did.

I think they're going to put up a pretty huge July fundraising number. And $60 million should be enough to saturate digital.

Edit: A little more from ABC

Biden campaign goes on offense, looks to expand electoral map with $280 million general election ad buy

$220 million of the total investment will be spent on TV ads airing in 15 states

ABC said:
The ad campaign also includes specific elements targeting key constituencies the campaign sees critical to winning in November, including Black, Latino and Asian American Pacific Islander voters, the campaign said.

Senior Advisor Symone Sanders noted that the first African American and Latino ad buys began in early June, saying that the Biden campaign is targeting communities of color early.

"Oftentimes we hear so much how campaigns wait until six to eight weeks out from Election Day to start communicating to African American, Latino voters, but we have been clear that African American and Latino voters are key parts of our general election strategy," Sanders told reporters.

ABC said:
Additionally, the campaign plans on targeting podcasts and digital audio, online gaming, as well as sports content.

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to spread across the country, raising concerns about in-person voting, the media buy also features a voter education campaign aimed at raising awareness about voting options ahead of the November election. The seven-figure investment, according to the campaign, is likely to begin earlier than traditional mobilization efforts.

"People who have never considered voting anywhere other than at their polling place on Election Day — including substantial parts of the Biden base that have been hardest hit by COVID-19, like communities of color — are now coming to terms with the fact that their ability to participate in this fall's election will be affected by COVID-19," Dillon wrote in a memo outlining the strategy, arguing the campaign would "ensure our supporters know the options available to them when it comes to making their vote count."

Jennifer Jacobs @JenniferJJacobs

Iowa gov @KimReynoldsIA says schools who defy state mandate that at least 50% of classes be in person could face licensure discipline. "If schools move to primarily remote learning without approval, according again to the law, those days do not count toward instructional time."

Charles Flesher @CharlesFlesher

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds says students in school districts that hold classes online without receiving state approval will not receive credit for that time.

Like... I get why Rice is appealing from a wonkish standpoint... but that's it. She has no future because she has no personality. She's not going to be able to run for President based on that and Benghazi (even though it was all bullshit, anything in the Clinton orbit should be dead). I can't imagine Biden is that dumb, especially if he is in "don't fuck it up" mode.
If it's truly down to those 2 then it is Harris. He should definitely through some shade at Dodd when he announces her

Love the new OT. Great work. As for Harris v. Rice, I'm fully on board with Harris. Despite her faults, she is engaging, and I think would be a good candidate in 2024. I certainly don't want to have to keep hearing about Benjamin Ghazi anymore either.

I'm not going to go through all of Warren's endorsements to see if any of them have bad votes on their records, because fuck purity tests.

And no, I don't support gerrymandering even if it helps democrats.

Whoa, didn't see the news about Bush. That's a big upset.

I think if Biden wants to work with Rice so much, he should make her SoS. I just don't see how her being a barnbuster on the trail, either this year or in 2024. Considering one of Biden's chief criteria was someone who has been battle tested with running a national campaign, and Rice has never run a campaign for anything, it's a little odd she's made it this far but I guess speaks to either his major fondness for her or some lingering hesitation about Kamala.

And conservative bootlickers were so close to robbing nearly half-a-million people from allotted Medicaid funding for no good reason...

Choice bit from the article:

Mr. Sethi — an Indian-American, Harvard-educated orthopedic trauma surgeon at Vanderbilt University Medical Center — is hoping his own appeals to Mr. Trump's agenda appear more convincing. In an interview, Mr. Sethi, 42, said he applauded the president's ideas for "meaningful immigration reform," including building a wall along the Mexican border, and he praised his performance during the pandemic, adding that, as a physician, his main advice to the president would be to fire Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the government's leading expert on infectious diseases.
And while Mr. Sethi offers masks at his events, he said he did not believe it was the role of the government to mandate that people wear them.

The rest reads similarly regarding the candidates. The measure of a man that would support these blatant shitheels.

Yeah. The GOP isn't going to circle around Romney if Trump loses. I don't think the Lincoln Project will be successful in reigning in the crazy.
The thing is, even if they wanted to, they couldn't. GOP voters are addicted to the dopamine they get whenever Trump "owns" the libs. Whoever best can accomplish that is who they will vote for in elections.

They already noted that 2020 was not the end. They may get back into the fold in 2022 but it's dependent on how the base reacts to Trump losing. If they walk, maybe they come back in. If they stay with him, it'll be 5 years at the least.

Also depends on moderates swinging back to the GOP. If they don't, the chances of the Lincoln Project returning are slim as fuck as the current base hates their guts for betraying Trump.

OMG just resign.

As some members of the task force tried to stress the dire nature of the situation to the president during the meeting, the source said Trump repeatedly attempted to change the subject. "He starts talking about something else," the source said.

Yeah, they learned the wrong lessons from 2016 and will excuse away his ass whooping by Biden as only a product of the pandemic, and not the fact that he's a hated idiot. They will re-try 2016 in 2022/2024. 2022 is a good year for Dem senate.

The big question mark is if the suburbs are gone for good or not. I think they are gone for good until Trumpism is gone, so at least through 2022/2024. If the GOP loses in 2024 with a Trumpish candidate, then sanity will take over.
