No second stimulus without election security and post office funding

this is the only leverage we'll have before the election. They can't just not do anything especially with fucker pushing for delays publicly to try and have assurances this won't be fucked with.

You have great taste in swamps. 6-mile Cypress is also a great walk, especially during the rainy season when you need waders to get through it.

It was such a cool place. I saw so many different animals - including a family of raccoons that were foraging around the elevated walkway. We didn't see any gators until near the end of the walk when it opened up into a very large lily pad covered pond, and then they were everywhere. They had an absolute monster of a gator that was sleeping out on an island in the middle. I'd love to go back again.
I won't go near any water bigger than a puddle in Florida so there's no way you'd get me to wade around in a swamp. My husband wants to move away from DC someday and my one redline is anywhere with gators.

Democrats need to figure a way to fight the mail in voting hurdle.

Maybe we should start encouraging healthy people to vote in person or drop off ballots?

As far as I see it, the two most likely avenues for election fuckery is them managing to somehow fuck with mail-in ballots & purposely starting shit at polling stations to try & get them locked down.

I'm starting to worry that mail in ballots might be a bad idea if Trump is going to try and defund the postal service. Dems need to get ahead of the message.

In a few states the residents should start receiving their ballots during September if they requested it. I hope people will take advantage of early voting as well.

It really could be weeks before we will know the results at least for some states. All this is just a play for Trump to question the results if it is close or if he looses.

The courts will definitely get involved this election, but the dems should have good arguments.

I don't get how it's "doomer" or "alarmist" in any way to raise concerns about the postal service when the republicans have stopped just short of saying that they are going to intentionally fuck with the mail to steal the election. Everyone can see it.

Even still wouldn't it be a good idea to craft dialogue about how maybe it's a better idea to vote in person because the well will be poisoned?

Moreover, I don't think it'll be weeks. Most states have cut off dates so you should get the result on day of if not a few days later

I'e noticed that the few paper bills I still get are coming days later than normal.

God Damn it

My advice and either check in your town and see if there is a drop off box and if not there should at least be clerks on the government payroll that are supposed to process ballots. USPS has to deliver them to SOMEONE

Push your local municipality to take action on this and avoid having your vote lost in the shuffle!

Also dont blame the USPS. This ain't on them

I agree this should happen, but has anyone in Congress actually mentioned trying it?

seems like we probably should be extending early voting as well so there's less crowding at the stations. Since apparently republicans have a newfound distrust of main-in voting

Yeah, I live in WA where we're all vote by mail all the time and I have only ever bothered with the ballot drop boxes one time because I had forgotten to mail it, but for both the primary Tuesday and the general, ballot drop box time this year

Literally posted the article it was from under it specifically for that reason. It's a guardian article, Siriota is shit, but there's no reason to disregard how bad Cuomo is just for that.

Just a bizarre ad from this pro-Trump Super PAC. Beyond blatantly trying to stir racial resentment between Black and Latino voters, the collection of people it highlights is...very random? AOC, Juan Williams, Julian Castro, Bob Menendez, Ana Navarro?

Also a wildly racist Spanish language ad out there now.

I also doubt the dems will get money for the post office in this next bill, but there is a chance because they have some much leverage.

There is a government spending that needs to be passed in September. Democrats can get the funding during that time if they push for it.

Don't think there is a point in giving the post office alot more money when the head person is a Trumper and intentionally doing things to harm the post office

Exactly this. Doesn't matter what dems do at this point when it comes to USPS. The person running the post office will do anything to help trump win.

My least favorite part of contesting Florida is being forced to placate 80 year olds who still give a shit about this.

I live in Miami and everyone is going to put this on Cubans but it's Hispanics in the area in general who are very anti-Socialism and therefore extremely anti-Dem since they associate the Democratic Party with Socialist ideals. It's going to take at least another generation to overcome the anti-Dem bias here as there's been an influx of young South Americans who are taking the place of the older Cubans as the R voting block.
Damn is there no resentment for Trump and his build the wall rhetoric? Have things moved more to the right since 2016?
Lots of them hate Trump. America under Trump is still better than Cuba under Castro.

Refugees from an authoritarian regime being wary of politicians who have praised or supported that regime shouldn't be derided for it. Obviously America isn't going full socialism any time soon but you can't blame people who literally fled leftist hellholes for being afraid of leftism. I realize it's inconvenient to have to appeal to these voters when you're trying to sell the electorate on a democratic socialist political revolution. But you can't ignore them just because the dictatorship they fled happened to be a leftist one instead of a right-wing one.

You don't have to change anything about the Democratic Party Platform to appeal to Cuban immigrants. You just have to not have a history of saying nice things about the oppressive dictatorship in which they were born. That shouldn't be too much to ask!

obviously this is bad for a lot of reasons but a lot of posters have said that dems and republicans vote by mail roughly the same and sometimes R's even have the edge. what am i missing?
That it could be used to declare himself the winner and potentially incite mass violence no matter what the actual outcome is.

That he could also send feds (or his followers) as "poll watchers" to scare people away from polling places in areas where the votes are likely to be unfavorable to him. (The decree banning armed poll watchers expired in 2018)

yes this is my understanding as well. clearly Trump wants to cast doubt on the election in every way possible because he obviously sees himself losing a fair election. Though if we're being especially cynical... if more republicans show up for early voting and in person on election day, it'll really muck up the waters as to who actually wins the election. It might be several days or weeks before we know who won what depending on the volume of mail-in ballots. It's feasible that Trump appears to have won one day and then the next, because of the so-called "illegitimate" ballots coming in - that Biden wins. I know Bush v Gore has a ton of defenders for some reason, but some spurious legal challenge to the election could possibly swing it in Trump's favor. But this is me panicking so idk.

Maybe I'm missing the panic over announcing it the day of because 1. states will be like "we haven't counted them yet" or eventually be like "that's 100%" and that's...good? and 2. the winner doesn't become president until January 2021. I think we'll have a final count in enough places by then (and I know the electoral college meets sooner etc but nothing actually changes in November)

Please stop. Your dialogue is conspiratorial and overly negative. Democrat leadership will have to address this and they have time.

Latest polling had 50% of dems using vote by mail and only 22% of republicans for the general election this year.

A difference like that isn't negligible statistically.

That's why democrats have been smart to push the "vote IMMEDIATELY when getting your ballot" platform. It's accurate and can overcome all of this.
