Trump adviser tells WaPo that when it comes to the pandemic, the president is "not really working this anymore. He doesn't want to be distracted by it. He's not calling and asking about data. He's not worried about cases."

And as someone who has been to southern illinois 3 or 4 times

basically Mid Missouri and Southern Illinois are basically the same state but different sides of the river

and I'm talking like a hour drive from the kentucky border btw

So jealous of the culture of chicago tbqh

my wife grew up in southern Illinois and we still go see her parents once a year. The drive to Paducha is pretty quick... there isn't much difference

Have to imagine intelligence people going: "wow, somebody is actually showing up for these briefings"
Or even: "oh thank god, a normal briefing"

I am just going to pretend, mentally, that Joe Biden already is the 'acting' president of the USA. Someone has to be.

The Pandemic isn't something that you can just ignore and it will go away.

Thousands of people are getting infected each day and many are dying as well. Can't say I'm shocked by all this and it will show in the coming months as well that he's in even deeper shit than he is now and it won't go away.

Lying about it didn't work so we're on to ignoring it.

I think the masks being a cultural issue is one of more annoying issues to me

Like this is worth a fucking right wing backlash really? Really?

It's probably one of those "We won't kowtow to the chinese" that infected the right wing since the dawn of time itself

It's this kinda stupidity that makes me long for culture war of the obama era, at least I could be smug in me being right having proof of it

now? meh

The craziest thing is that the Republicans are managing this so badly that Fox News is pushing back at them trying to tell them "you dumb shits, you're digging a political grave if you keep driving this route!"

Neil Cavuto's recent back and forth with Andy Biggs is the most awkward thing I've seen in a long time. I don't think Andy Biggs was expecting to be asked whether or not he seriously thinks disbanding the coronavirus task force is a good idea, while his own state of Arizona is crumbling, just because Fauci upsets the president. There was no classic Fox News cutting to ad breaks because the situation is getting awkward, it was like a two or three minute section of Cavuto repeating the same question and Biggs going "but but but".

and I mean this is with all sincerity I can muster

I genuinely hope if Biden becomes president, I hope no one in the media ever takes fiscal hawks seriously ever.

I hope they never make an appearance on any show whatsoever

if they dare make an appearance on any show, pls take a hatchet to them

They're all racists with bullshit statistics

Hate to break it to you, but by the first midterms, everyone will have forgotten their outrage and convinced themselves that THIS time the GOP will be good.

Kansas is pretty bad outside of where I live (KS side of Kansas City) but I'm always shocked how blatantly racist Missouri is when you go south for any meaningful time.
Yeah being from MO. You only go to STL or KC. Everything else you need to drive through because as SOON as you are in blue springs or Harrisionville, the confederate flags come out and the jacked up pick ups are all over the road.

God forbid some pandemic killing hundreds of thousands of Americans distract you from your presidential campaign.

This time, I'm not so sure. Trump is not going to hide from the public eye like W Bush. He's going to be out there reminding everyone of what a fuck he is.

This is true. Plus alot of Dems motivated to get Donald Trump out will just stop caring about politics once he's gone and stop paying attention unfortunately.

Rules were meant to be broken!

It's a vicious cycle

You make rules with some exceptions

you brake the rules with new stuff

you make rules with the new stuff

you break the rules with new stuff again

It's a vicious cycle that can't be broken until we have a representative democracy for all or at least the GOP/Dem binary is abolished in american politics

My big fear for a Biden presidency is that the conservative media will successfully push a narrative into the mainstream blaming him for issues that Trump caused. He is going to spend his entire first term just cleaning up the mess that will be left for him.

Maybe I'm wrong but isn't that entirely his purpose just to make democrats/liberals forget why they lost 2016 and go back to being milquetoast liberals that have plagued the progressives

Maybe that's just my socialist perspective

Expecting the media to do the right thing is always gonna lead to disappointment.

Damn that news about John Lewis sucks. Such an inspirational figure. What happens to his seat?

This time feels different.

Trump ripped the mask of on a lot of the GOP bullshit.
I think you overestimate the populace. They can't even think about the virus for more than two weeks before their selfishness kicks in. They don't value science or expertise or logic or data. The first time the Dems push through something mildly controversial, the BS factories just cycle up again.

Just putting the basics of environmental protections and government oversight back in place will be painted as outrageous left insanity because the perception of center has swung so hard.

The midterms ALWAYS swing back against the party in power, And unless the wave this fall replaces a lot of state houses as well, the gerrymandered districts will still be a problem in most states.

NYT Obituary:

John Lewis, Towering Figure of Civil Rights Era, Dies at 80 (Published 2020)

Images of his beating at Selma shocked the nation and led to swift passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. He was later called the conscience of the Congress.

June 2018:

John Lewis @repjohnlewis

Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble. #goodtrouble

Civil right survivors are made a far sturdier mattel then all of us

Not only are they true survivors, their optimism should be the fuel that should make us better all of us

Edward-Isaac Dovere @IsaacDovere

in June, John Lewis spoke at an Obama Foundation event about the George Floyd protests. He linked them to the civil rights marches, young people "standing up, speaking up, being prepared to march--they're going to help redeem the soul of America, and maybe help save the planet"

Obama said to Lewis at that event: "if I am having a tough time, then I'm thinking back, well if John Lewis wasn't scared or if he overcame his fear, then what right do I have to be scared or intimidated?"

Lewis also said then: "We're going to get there, it's all going to work out. But we must help it work out. We must continue to be bold, brave, courageous, push and pull to redeem the soul of America and move closer to a community at peace with itself."

RIP to realest hero.

I'd be really surprised if they invite Trump to his funeral. Especially after the dipshit tried attacking him over twitter.

The thing about the Midterms is that we realigned away the reliable GOP suburban voters. They are the ones with the infrequent voters they need to turn out now.

Belgium's military intelligence service, the SGRS, was aware of the support given by Russia to the Taliban rebels fighting in Afghanistan, as well as bounties offered by Russia for American casualties.
The information was revealed by Belgium's defence minister Philippe Goffin who is also minister for foreign affairs. Goffin was replying to a parliamentary question from MP Samuel Cogolati.
----------------------
"The SGRS is aware of general Russian support for the Taliban in Afghanistan and confirms a possible Russian interference," Goffin said.
"According to information available to us from open sources, only one incident could be linked to the bounty program, most notably the car-bomb attack on an American convoy in early April 2019. In that attack, three American soldiers lost their lives," he said.
Belgium was part of a Nato joint force in Afghanistan until earlier this year, but the troops have now returned home after a one-month delay caused by the coronavirus crisis here.

Trump says Biden wants to defund the police, pointing to his "charter" with Sanders. Chris Wallace points out the Sanders-Biden task force doesn't mention defunding police. Trump, lying: "Oh, really? It says abolish, it says..." To aide: "Let's go. Get me the charter, please."

Trump interrupts interview to show proof that Biden plans to defund the police. It did not go well

3:24 PM · Jul 17, 2020

"Bring me the charter" is a pretty good slogan.

Just do a "Pacific Islands" state with US Samoa, NMI, and Guam. Not sure how to tackle VI.
This has also been my preferred idea on the matter. Some people have proposed somehow rolling VI in with Puerto Rico as one state of some sort. That one definitely seems like a stretch.
Well this interview is depressing as fuck, and really throws some cold water on how good things have been looking for Democrats lately. It almost sounds like we're living in 2006-2008 all over again, where we first take back the house, then the white house and hopefully the senate as well, then we get a couple of good years to try and get shit done, all while having to deal with multiple crises left over from the previous Republican administration, before getting completely fucked again for another decade or more if nothing is done about the senate and supreme court. Dude seems super smart though.
There is reason to be cautious, but I think PR and DC statehood could be a huge wall for Republicans to climb going forward and AZ/TX are transforming at a very rapid pace. Ohio is an anomaly in the great lakes region that won't be so easy to replicate in my eyes. Come 2022 it wouldn't surprise me if PA has two dem senators.
The Georgia seats are the ones that they are most likely to only tip in a disaster election-you can't save Iowa, NC, AZ, Montana, or Maine if Trump loses bigly, you can't save the majority, but maybe you can save the GA seats. There's logic there.

Private schools that re-open in TX are going to have some grotesque waivers for parents to sign and it's gonna be a circus when they get passed around on social media.
I want to believe, but it's hard to do so when Purging Kemp is in charge. If you had to ask me which state felt like the least democratic in all of the union I'd say Georgia every damn time.
My big fear for a Biden presidency is that the conservative media will successfully push a narrative into the mainstream blaming him for issues that Trump caused. He is going to spend his entire first term just cleaning up the mess that will be left for him.
hmmm

I'm no fan of Joe, but this term will probably be more stressful than any in decades. What 2024 will look like for both democrats and republicans does interest me because I legit can't picture it. The future has never felt so uncertain...
