You know after talking about avoiding punitive measures before, I was like... there's no way they'd actually try to take a hardline stance that they couldn't possibly enforce evenly... but I forgot FL exists

Did you ever wonder what happened to Jacob Wohl to turn him into the pissy little shit he is? Wonder no more. Here is his father on Parler:

I do wonder what a lame duck period would be like for Trump. I know people fear him going crazy and trying to burn down the country, and I do think he'll do some shitty stuff trying for one last lining of his pockets and try to pardon a ton of people probably including himself. But with how he has been since that rally, I wonder if for the most part he'll basically do nothing, and I mean not even turn up for work most days and just go golfing even during the week, not even pretending to pay attention to presidential duties anymore.

Especially if he loses really badly to Biden, like 360+ electoral votes.

Can they continue to confirm judges after the election, if he loses?

Interesting because Jill said she was still sour about how Kamala attacked Joe in the debates and was more effusive in praise to Klobuchar (and sat next to Lance Bottoms at the debate as her guest!).

But I agree, Jill is fantastic and would be an amazing First Lady.

"It was a debate. I don't really believe what I said. I was just saying whatever I could to win."

Kamala also said, at the top of her remarks, "I do not believe you are a racist." But nobody ever remembers that. lol

And it can be so frustrating, because outside of that Kamala v.Joe moment, it illustrates exactly how conversations about race tend to break down. If you call out someone's problematic words or behavior, it must be because you think they're a bad person and hate them. And you can never work with them or again...because then you must be a hypocrite.

Maybe Jill hates Kamala which is why the VP search is taking so long in spite of the straightforward conclusion

I don't get it. What is the non-bad faith, non-GOP fearmongering argument against just letting everyone vote by mail?

Why would you NOT want it to be as easy as possible to allow more people to vote?

No, she could have just said we have our differences, but I believe there is no comparison between Joe and Trump. Or she could have said that I have talked with him and believe he's changed for the better.

I never said she shouldn't work with him. He's the nominee so it's a given that we all have to work with Biden.

There isn't one.

This Supreme Court is very "States' Rights" about all voting measures, and Roberts chooses to get the court involved as little as possible.

The more people believe these polls the more complacent they will get and not feel the need to vote. Add in GOP suppression and foreign interference, plus the Coronavirus and we have a recipe for another election disaster. God I hope I'm wrong.
I actually think the opposite. I think the hope it gives people is energizing and is getting them excited to vote. Where as earlier people felt so defeated and hopeless they were ready to roll over and die.

Such a garbage candidate. Hoping Royce wins in the run off. In this climate Beto could have beat Cornyn, but no way he could have known before the filing deadline

After finishing the Hulu Hillary documentary, curiosity led me into doing a lot of research into Bill. Definitely changed my whimsical views of who he is.

What'd you find?

BTW, the Street Fight Radio and Citations Needed podcasts are radicalizing me lately. I've gone full socialist. Has anyone else listened/binged to either lately?

I really only knew (and even then, didn't really register to 6 year old me) about Lewinski. No ideas about the other scandals that dogged them and informed public opinion against Hillary, going back to the Arkansas days. Then I pivoted into the Columbia package during his administration.

Just wait until you read about his welfare reform!

Fuck the hell off with this.

Requiring people to wear a mask in the middle of a fucking pandemic is not breach of civil liberties and it's not a threat to public health

Natalie Shure's takes are consistently awful. I remember her defending and brushing off Alison Roman's racism, saying that the NYT letting her go was a labor rights issue and that Chrissy Teigen and Marie Kondo are rich so it's no big deal if we're mean to them. So if you're ever racist and need someone to come to your defense, just frame your racism as anti-capitalist critique and people like Natalie Shure will come rushing to your defense!

Holy shit I didn't see it that way! They just picked the half way point and said yup that sounds good.

Right, that's wild! And the thing is, Pence would want to fudge that to say even more were under 35, so if the best estimate for "safe" COVID cases is half, then woof

TX actually reverting back to their restrictions is huge. If they caved, then I expect FL will have to as well (much older population, plus the tourism). We'll see how they're doing when August rolls around and the unemployment/PPP stuff runs out.

"President Trump's extreme opposition to mail-in ballots is more likely hurting him and down-ballot Republicans...His stance is turning Republican voters off from using the method entirely, which could have the effect of depressing Republican votes."

This is kind of the reason I'm not all that broken up about Trump's attack on mail-in ballots, or the recent SC decision about Texas' mail ballots. The Good Guy in me wants everyone to have access to easy voting. The Partisan in me sees that mail in ballots being universal everywhere could actually help out Republicans in many places we need to/would like to win this year. So...

My only thing with GOP souring on mail in ballots due to following shitlord Trump....

Wouldn't that indicate simply that they'd show up to the polls in person instead? Is there and data to show they straight up just wouldn't vote?

That point is paired with the fact that polling places will be COVID-y if they're even open at all. Will Idaho shut down sites? Probably not, and it's not a close situation. But if TX and FL need to close polling places, and republicans have decided that mailing in votes is bad, well....

The full quote is even more horrific.
Yeah, Putin was off the rails before but ever since Krimea he is unleashed. GUR is also responsible for executing a Gregorian here in Germany in broad daylight. Absolutely bonkers, two "diplomats" (GUR agents) were expelled and that's it. Putin need not fear any consequences.

How Trump and the Black Lives Matter Movement Changed White Voters’ Minds (Published 2020)

A majority of American voters support demonstrations on police brutality, and many see the president as ill-equipped on racial justice.

Steadman™ @AsteadWesley

NEW: More from NYT/Siena polling. A newfound majority of US voters are embracing tenets of the Black Lives Matter movement, our poll finds, and rejecting the president's focus on looting and rioting. His narrow focus has not worked. w/ @dionnesearcey

Includes whites and shows the limits of a president that only speaks and hears the bubble of the base. Just a big shift to accept reality of systemic racism even if theres not consensus on what to do about it. short term thesis: Trump not moving w/ country

Presidential campaigns as personal therapy

Maggie Haberman @maggieNYT

Even though they are aware that Mr. Trump's mishandling of the virus presents a threat to his re-election, aides agreed to his demand for the rally last Saturday in Tulsa, Okla., hoping the adulation he would receive there would snap him out of a funk.

Trump's spending in GA

>

Liam Donovan @LPDonovan

Trouble w/ trying to boost #s in GA (or TX, or any other state he shouldn't/can't afford to lose) is that the local problem proceeds from the national one. Whack-a-mole media buys miss the point, unless the point is to react to the news of the day and get the boss off your back.

Maggie Haberman @maggieNYT

The GA ad buy from Trump campaign is a real one, statewide in June, at 457K so far for a week of time per @MediumBuying. Up in Albany, Atlanta, Augusta-Aiken, Macon, Savannah markets.
