DeSantis not closing churches is a big tell on how he sees the power structure set up in the state.

Those churches probably need Easter collections to keep solvent. Evangelical church budgets are a thing of thrilling comedy-usually run by people with little to no accounting experience, and full of loans, bonds, and capital intensive projects and a mix of fulltime/partime/contracting staffing costs. Even a church with just a handful of full time staff and a building can easily have a budget that would make a trained biz admin at a fortune 100 company running a area blush.

Those pastors demanded they keep the doors open, DeSantis complies. Pass the plate! Corona transmission by the contact doesn't matter because the fomite volume in a closed area with people singing hymns will doom everyone anyway.

Its more likely in response to that one pastor getting arrested for breaking county enforcement of religious gatherings.

Trump said twice that he invoked the Defense Production Act "against" 3M for the manufacture of face masks.

Kushner: Trump wanted to make sure we had the best people doing the best job. He instructed me to "break down every barrier needed" to get everything done "in the speed the president demands," and to "think outside the box."

It is way too early to be overly optimistic, but if things continue as they are then Trump is most likely looking at very high unemployment numbers alongside relatively anemic growth at best going into November. Based on the historical data we have for incumbents with bad economies heading into reelection, combined with how low Trump's approval figures have been throughout his presidency, it is hard to fathom how he manages to win.
If this lasts into the election, than I imagine so much fuckery that his re-election chances are higher than average. People won't be able to vote at the polls, those polls that are open will be closed hours earlier, preventing hundreds to thousands of votes; I expect a lot of mail-in ballots to go "missing" for certain counties along with a large drop in votes this cycle due to everything going on. With the destruction of the USPS, expect mail ballot forms to take a suspiciously long time to reach people, say past Election Day. People also will not remember, care, or be too depressed to vote with everything going on and the rest will try taking their chances at the polls. I expect the Republican Party to do everything in their power to take this election in order to get the Supreme Court stacked for a generation.

Junkyard Jared can't work with other pols and public health officials. Just his private sector buddies.

It's the difference between getting a plane full of vents once and having a coordinated just-in-time inventory management system where vents are moved between communities and hospitals for optimal allocation.

New letter from Trump to Schumer: "Thank you for your Democrat public relations letter and incorrect sound bites, which are wrong in every way. ... I've known you for many years, but I never knew how bad a senator you are for the state of New York, until I became president."

Middle School shit.

Trump reminds me of a little kid in the fact when he learns something new he has to run and tell everyone like he discovered the secrets of the universe

Jared is a fixer, give him a small problem with a specific outcome that requires little stakeholder communication and he can probably pull it off just by calling people of means and begging.

Like, all-of-government bureaucratic responses don't start with Jared. Everyday that passes without a plan for June/July and beyond being organized and rolled out is hugely costly.

Trump says of the federal role in crisis acquisitions: "We're a backup, we're not an ordering clerk." (A number of governors have called on him to take a leading role to avoid state-vs.-state competition.)
Trump asked what happens when states are competing against each other for these items: "They have that, and they have to work that out." He blames states for not ordering critical supplies before. "When times become normalized," they need to stock up, he says.

With this press conference, they've injected (even more) chaos into the CARES act than before. Hospitals and small businesses are going to have so many questions.

Things will get worse with the bullshit in Florida still ongoing. They have more cases then Illinois already.
Just a quick update on Florida #s for 4/2 (there is normally a 12pm EST update and a 6pm EST update, so this is both):

Deaths: 144 (+43)
Cases: 9008 (+1235)

For comparison, yesterday had +16 deaths and +1032 cases. Deaths are by far the highest # so far.

I'd love to see some MT polling concerning Bullock's approval rating and the H2H for him.

Seems like my mother and father aren't treating the virus as seriously as they should. They still go out and see people while my father continues to work (he fought hard to keep the flooring store open). He's more horrified economy crashing than the public health crisis (granted the 08 recession utterly ruined him so I understand his fears).

I think Jared is my most hated person in the administration.

Like Trump is just dumb. Pence has been domesticated. Miller is evil. Kushner is just useless and is somehow tasked with everything under the sun.

He's not wrong. But this doesn't reflect on them the way he thinks it does. 😂

Oh my god it is going to be a breath of fresh air to have a president who can actually put a sentence together.

Trump: When governors call me, in every case they are "so nice," and tell me "thank you, thank you, thank you," you've done a great job, an incredible job, but then you see them on TV and they're very different.
Trump says you can give some governors way more ventilators than they asked for, and they'll tell him to his face "you are the greatest president that's ever lived," but then you see them quoted in the paper or on a show, and they say the president didn't come through.

Trump asked about 6M jobless claims: In 1917, they didn't know what to do, people were just dying, "a lot of people in this country died," "to me it's a great question: how come more people" didn't die back then, and they say it actually started here, so it's a terrible thing.

Trump: They say 2.2 million people would've died if I'd listened to the "ride it" people (he was the nation's leading "ride it" person). He adds, of that model number: "Whether it's true, or almost true, or maybe not true enough." ?

Pragmatism isn't sexy, but it keeps my black ass alive and fed.

Look, if leftists run a candidate who can win, I am on board.
that's how a lot of black folks feel. Work with the reality you got.

Honest question, since I want socialism to keep growing - what would make a socialist electable? If Bernie had the same policies but was "more likeable", is that the key, or is it more about moderating policies?

Spitballing 90s era Bill Clinton/Barack Obama's charisma, probably in white-passing Hispanic man. (Rubio, but left.) You campaign on a more moderate stance, and then shift left once you have the nomination in hand, or perhaps are in the White House.

The primary is about playing the game to reach the most people in the party. "Moderates" are always going to be a strong part of the party. The problem with the primary system on either side is it prizes candidates more on the conservative side of their respective parties, but you still need those people, unless you're able to push for a turnout in another demo.

Just goes to show you what exactly is that makes a lot of voters tick. Biden isn't doing himself any favors with his creepiness and general "habits" with women in public and possibly private, but politically, he's done all the right things throughout the decades.

Only a fraction of Bernie supporters in 2016 were actually voting for him because of policy reasons (most were voting for him because he wasn't Hillary) , black voters have a diverse set of reasons for voting for someone, although one of the biggest reasons is respect for the community and its leaders, especially among older black voters, and ESPECIALLY among older women black voters, who are the the core of a lot of black families and culture. That's something Bernie never quite got the hang off, and the realization of that came too late for him. It also takes YEARS of trust and work in the black community, so his political career in Vermont was useless for winning the south. ( He should've at least stayed in New York). The same thing happened with Warren and Pete; they never actually grew up politically with black leaders and a black community.

Obama didn't win over the black vote right away either. But being black helped, and it was only the first step he needed to take in order to strip away the black vote from HIllary. He maneuvered establishment politics pretty deftly and early on in his political career, while also working hard on his image as an outsider. Obama is a whole class of politician himself, honestly. He grew up white, but in a foreign environment to many Americans, giving him the worldly aura a lot of white liberals love, but he looked black and then strived to BE black as well, which is why he chose Chicago as his political base.
All I have to say on this: Sanders should stop listening to Cornel West.

Bernie exhibited strength all the way through the primary season in 2016. He won a contest even on the night Hillary clinched. Certainly not true this time. It's just different.

Bernie, dude's paved the world's largest airstrip ever constructed for you to come land on and you STILL refuse to take it. Come onnnnnnn.
I Love Dale's Twitter- for me's he's the model for how every reporter should write up Trump.

But I'm terrified. I almost can't even check the news because of how insane the Federal Govt has become.
Might I recommend your local broadcast network news? It's at least, uh, local, and Trump face isn't in every story.

I'm not sure it's possible for a socialist to campaign more moderately than Sanders on policy, only on their stance towards the party. If a socialist tried to get any more moderate than Bernie, they wouldn't be a socialist anymore.
