Let me say this with as much love as a shady old queen like me can give:
Some of y'all, for your own well being, need to get some weed or some wine or a good movie or whatever it is that helps you relax a little bit.
Your average Joe Blow on the street has no fucking clue what is going on. They don't spend all day on Twitter, they don't spend all day watching MSNBC, and they sure as fuck don't have any clue as to what Trump is actually doing. Your average voter probably knows a handful of things:
1) Trump shut down the schools because he cares about the children getting sick (which is a state thing not a Trump thing BUT THEY'RE DUMB!)
2) Trump is going to give me $1000 check for reasons.
3) They have press conferences about this everyday, so clearly they're doing something.
Your average voter approves of things until it negatively impacts them or someone they love. We see this time and time and time and time again. Most voters don't just blindly hate everything Trump does because it's Trump. Approval/Disapproval of specific policy issues comes from willful ignorance and ingroup blindness. Take me, for example. Most of the people I associate with are upper middle class white folks. What do they think of this? "Oh what a pain the kids are out of school. Mommy needs wine time to get through the day! : insert canned laugh track here " Until such time as Trump's inaction directly hurts someone, they're probably not going to give two shits because empathy is fucking hard for a lot of people.
When Johnny's little friend's grandma is sick with the covid virus they'll start to care. When Aunt Beth has to go to the ICU because she couldn't get a test, they'll start to care. Until they actually feel some kind of way from this, they simply will give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's doing a good enough job.
This is just the way it is. It's the way it's always been. It's the way it's always going to be.
Remember, it's okay to tune out from the national story for a while. Stick to your local stuff so you know what you need to do, but it's okay to stop for a bit.
