Accidentally showcasing one of the active downsides of vote-by-mail in that it leaves voters unable to react to new events.
Agreed.

I got my CA ballot this week and my first impulse was to fill it out and send it right away but it makes more sense to wait and see how things are looking closer to Super Tuesday.
At least in my state, there is an option for people who want to change their early-mail-in vote (involves contacting election office up to week before the election, having ballot canceled, then voting by one of the available methods). Obviously that procedure alone is a bit of an impediment, not everyone will bother, but the option is there. EDIT - I assume this is an option for primary ballots, too, not just for general election ballots. It doesn't say it only applies to the general.

House votes to kill Republican resolution disapproving of Speaker Pelosi's behavior during the State of the Union in vote along party lines.

Independent Rep. Amash voted with the Democrats.

Giving me 2016/17 flashbacks of when certain online leftists were carping about how surely the Dems were going to run Chelsea Clinton, Tim Kaine, and Chuck Schumer in 2020 because they love to lose so much!
Fond memories of a few days after the 2016 election when some CNN panelists were talking 2020 candidates, one of them was like "I dunno, Tim Kaine?" and one of my Bernie buddies angrily texted me like THE NEOLIBERAL ESTABLISHMENT MEDIA IS ALREADY TRYING TO RIG IT FOR KAINE and it's like, come on, man.

Bernie and Pete basically tied for 1st, Warren did ok and Biden fell on his face. That's the story of Iowa, its not at all unclear. Why do we need to drag this out any longer?

Well the Democratic Party trying to rat fuck Bernie leaves only two possible results: nominate Bernie or be destroyed Quite frankly I don't think a party this incompetent/corrupt deserves to live.

Momentum will shift with Biden's collapse, and Buttigieg is gaining quickly. It was good politics for him to do what he did, it is the only way he has a shot at the nomination. I cannot fault him there. He needs to do what is in his best interest. I resent only that the situation arose that let him do what he did.

Firmly believe he has no shot at winning in November though.
Everyone claims victory. Joe Lieberman said "we are in a three-way split decision for third place!" when he got like 5th in NH, and Clinton made his famous move in the 1992 primary by saying he was the Comeback Kid when he didn't even win NH. Unknown mayor of the 301st largest city in America barely wins/loses in IA, and it's a win regardless, and he would have said as much. The "circumstances" wouldn't have changed that.

I always read the issue in the US as that it contains Social-Democrats, Liberals, and Fascists in equal measure. Maybe I'm misremembering, but I think in Germany and other places Left v. Liberal is a story as old as time. Shoving them together in the US has led to inevitable tension.

To stay out of Godwin territory, I don't use that example, but the story was mainly the same. As Leftish parties fought for what they thought were going to be electoral spoils, the authoritarians leveraged the fear and apathy of the politically disconnected to crush the warring factions after consolidating power.

Fascism and rust don't sleep

"Nominate Bernie or be destroyed" was always the position of those saying it now since 2016. They're just saying it outright this time.

And will get an even bigger boost in the upcoming days. All because of a fake win. Incompetence and/or shenanigans let him have three victory laps without actually winning shit.

Now the timing on Perez is just something else. You have to wonder why so many people think the process isn't 100% fair.

This concept still falls apart when the candidate prospering is Mayo Pete. "Rigging" it in this fashion wouldn't really be logical -- unless you're saying they rigged it for Pete to help Bloomberg later maybe? Or that helping Pete will help Biden because then Biden doesn't fall as much? But he still finished a distant 4th either way so would peel from moderate Biden people anyway?

I dunno, I can't keep track of the all the various permutations of rigging theories, but yeah, this one feels like it's quite next level if it's there.

Again, I think incompetence is the easier slam dunk to go with rather than rigging. It's a better narrative and doesn't make it come off seeming as woe is me, which most people are not going to feel bad for someone for in this case.

Minnesota gives you until a week before Election Day to recall your ballot. I don't know how it works elsewhere but that seems like plenty of time for contingency.

I've already cast a ballot for Warren though if anything major happens (like she drops out) I'll probably recall it and vote for Sanders.

Hopefully the primary on Tuesday helps settle the field a little bit and normalize things. I can't wait for this thread to stabilize and for all of us to focus back on the true Big Bad.

You mean like the DNC arguably doing everything possible to fuck up or mystify a democratic process effectively killing confidence in the establishment and handing it to Trump? I agree.

Just letting you guys know it's either Bernie or Trump. Hope you make the right choice...

(Mate, no one is voting Trump over Bernie in here. I think what you said with your first post was more "they better get Bernie or I'm sitting home/voting for Trump." At least that's how your threat came off.)

Is there any analysis going on about how the DNC is alienating millenials with all of this? They support Bernie by a huge margin and they are becoming incredibly disillusioned with the DNC.

Slightly concerning that GOP all voted the same regardless of how ridiculous this resolution was.
All the Republicans are partisan hacks and should be treated as such.

Don't think a lot of millenials are keeping track of Iowa results and data like us nerds are.

Bernie gets beaten like a drum by Trump. "Socialism" will be the attack, and independents will flee.

I think that's already too self-evident but an editorial or two mirroring the apparent reality for people who care to pay attention wouldn't hurt.

I know more than one Millennial who have said they will vote for anyone but Pete. If he's the nominee they refuse to vote.

For those hoping for more Iowa updates --

It sounds like there's a matter of contention over how the satellite caucuses had their SDEs distributed. The Iowa Democratic Party did it one way, the DNC apparently believes it should have been done another way. For those curious, the DNC's way, according to Nate Cohn, would take about 4 SDEs away from Sanders and would very likely prevent him from overcoming Buttigieg's lead with the remaining satellite caucuses left to count.

This is a major controversy waiting to burst.

Iowa always gives a universal bounce to the winner and never the person who comes in second.
That's why Obama won NH in 2008
And Hillary won it in 2016

Mayo Pete is trying to suppress the votes of black and brown people.

Completely on brand for him.
