I want Warren to ask Trump to recite specific bible passages or better yet Constitutional amendments. It seems like an easy way to embarrass him and get easy political points because he's clearly never read the constitution, despite being obliged to uphold it.

JBE being forced into a runoff is a bummer, but hardly unexpected. Polls consistently showed him just missing the mark by a few points. They also showed him clowning either Republican in the runoff.

And if he loses, eh. My condolences to Louisiana of course, but this was never going to be terribly indicative of anything for 2020, other than maybe whatever you could say for Jones' chances. I'll be rooting for a win but if he loses, I won't sweat it.

Incredible. I just saw a Sestak for President ad.

also, Bevin will probably win in KY. State races are just too nationalized now.

edit: And now a Steyer ad.

The only bad election result this year that would make me legitimately worried about 2020 would be Virginia Democrats failing to win the legislature.

Anything else would just make me groan and move on with my day.

Something significant happened in the last 24 hours because yesterday he wouldn't answer that question. Rudy must have made it known that he could take them all down with him if he's not protected.

Well Rudy flatly said it in the WSJ or NYT article yesterday that it was impossible for him to violate the foreign lobbying laws because he wasn't working on behalf of the Ukrainians but on the behalf of "President Trump". A clearer message couldn't have been sent that Rudy would testify that Trump was the mastermind behind everything if he was thrown under the bus.

I know we're in unbelievable times but things have basically been exactly what they have appeared to be. It appeared Trump was using military aid to extort the Ukranian President and he was. It appeared Pompeo was lying through his teeth about knowledge of the July 25th call and he was. It appeared the last WhatsApp message Sondland sent to Taylor had a completely different tone and came from the WH and it did.

So if it appears that Rudy just sent a warning to Trump to keep the bus tire tracks away from him, then that probably happened. Alternate explanation is that Barr has cooked up a new scheme to keep Rudy out of serious trouble. But honestly right now Barr already has a lot of heat on him because Trump mentioned him in the July 25th call, he's also in "covering my ass" mode unless Rudy is capable of implicating Barr too.

I'd actually argue that Bevin *still* trailing in the race in polling is a bad sign for him because I do think polling now is *much* more accurate.

The negative enthusiasm against Bevin is super strong, and that's why you have Trump and Pence doing an 11th hour stop there right before election. Internal polling for Bevin must be extremely underwater for that maneuver.

The degree in which the drag streams and the politics streams are crossing is making me LOSE IT.

Is it a toss-up right now or is it looking good that they'll win?
Odds are good that Democrats will take back the House, since the courts recently ungerrymandered the maps somewhat, iirc even the GOP House Speaker now sits in a seat that went heavily for Clinton/Northam/Kaine.

I'm not as sure about the Senate, but I think Democrats benefited from some choice retirements there.

Democrats need one seat in each chamber to tie, and two to win the majority outright. But while a 50-50 tie in the House would be less preferable, achieving a 20-20 tie in the Senate would be just as good as winning the majority, as the Lt. Governor (also a Democrat) would get to break ties.

I mean one of them is HarrisX, the other one is YouGov/Data for Progress.
So it's a tale of one shit pollster and one respectable pollster.
Polls have been a bit all over the place though, i think it's the shy tory effect in full force in USA now since 2016.
You should legitimately not be worried about primary polls being "nail biting" right now. Just look at trends and media coverage and wait for Iowa.
Waiting for Iowa is kinda what i mean, since it's harder to believe polls. At this point it looks like Warren takes Iowa, but we have seen Biden consistently do well there so we can't rule him out.

This is the Democratic primary. Did you mean to respond to the LA GOV results? Because the polling was accurate there too.

-------
The response to Warren's zinger on the town hall vs. what would've happened to Hillary if she said the same exact thing shows you how much people are falling in love with Warren in general lol.

And we all know what happens when Dems fall in love...

Not just LA results, but NC recently got it wrong, i guess the shy tory effect idea doesn't really apply to a Dem primary though, but i wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of people not wanting to admit they want Biden.

After not hate watching Fox News for almost two years now, I flick it on to catch Judge Jeannie interviewing Trump. Shes asks the question "Where is Barack Obama in all this? He wouldn't stop talking at the start of your administration, and now you aren't hearing anything from him". Trump responds "I think he is hiding". The rest of the interview is a mess of pretending like Adam Schiffs "joke" is entirely what the Ukraine thing is based on, justifying pulling out of Syria because "nobody else is paying the bills", and claiming he has crippled the Chinese economy while adding trillions in value to the US economy (and saying Xi has congratulated him on it).

So terrible.

I'm looking forward to IS fighters targeting our cities again and then Trump victim-blaming us for not taking them all in.

I don't mean to naysay. I will change my avatar from Nancy into whatever the leftists are into this week if we win: Marcia Fudge, Nina Turner, a non-blue checkmarked user on twitter who says WE ARE WATCHING YOU and posts videos of Kamala Harris being a cop, whatever. I just know the pattern. We lead an absolute trash candidate with a good candidate by a lot, then a little, and then on election day Democratic turnout IS SURGING IN THE CITIES!!! and we lose by 3 points when the swamp nazis vote. The only solution is to spin off red states.

Black turnout was down last night so Edwards has some work to do in the runoff. They accounted for 26.5% of the vote vs 29% in 2015 runoff. He got 31% of the white vote last night he needs to hold.

The ramblings of a mad man within as usual.

you can see how Trump and his 2020 campaign made a "plan" for this election based on them facing either Biden and Bernie. In Biden's case they were going to have Ukraine play the role of the FBI and indict Hunter on charges probably sometime in the debates. In Bernie's case they are going to start seeding this "they are a socialist" message now and try to hammer him with that.....

This absolutely makes sense. And you also kinda see it on the MAGA side when Trump talks about how African Americans love him to assuage white voters' fears about being seen as racist.

The story of the 2010s is the racism divide of white Americans tbh.

Can we slowly transition to calling it "general awareness of historical factors, institutional corruption, and modern policy that have led to predictable outcomes for minority populations" rather than "wokeness" or "white guilt"?

If someone slowly comes around to realizing that failing to expand Medicaid disproportionately affects minority voters in their state, and that poor medical coverage is a contributing factor to poverty and crime, I don't need them to feel sorry for themselves to vote in change.
