This is not a perfect comparison, but this would be like writing the story that supporters of anti-miscegenation are upset after a politician made a quip about white people being able to marry black people.

Nearly two-thirds of Americans support same-sex marriage. This is not a tossup issue.
And the 33% who don't never gon vote D anyway.

Yeah fuck off with that Rubio

I wonder if he has a fetish for getting ratio'd with the shit he posts.

"Will you talk about Rudy Giulianni?"
"When I was in Warsaw..."
"Sounds like no?"
"...when I was in Warsaw..."
"No Rudy colludy?"
"..when I was in Warsaw"
"....Rudy!"
"When I was in wars-"
"Rooooooodyyyyyyyy"
"When i-"
"RUDYRUDYRUDY"
"When I was in Warsaw"
Sounds like that stupid trope where a captured soldier would repeatedly say their name, class, where they served to survive interrogation.

Oh no!!!! People who used to be, and still are, marginalized in the world for hundreds of years are being snarky and fighting back! We better stop and think about how hurtful our comments can be to Christians who think we deserve to burn and our souls be tormented for all of eternity!

Trump voters in the Panhandle will think Warren hates them?

Wow, I'm sure they would have believed otherwise if she just didn't say that!

Warren joke about bigots needing to get a fucking life = seriously offensive

Trump joke about China interfering in US election = not serious

Just shut up, Rubio. Literally no one likes you.

Rubio getting brutally ratio'd with that response just like the "it's a joke guys" response to Trump soliciting help from China.

Hey NJ-ERA, are we looking ok going into the General Assembly election? Do I need to worry about the trifecta going out? (Obviously voting as if otherwise, but I'd still like to ask).

This is the kind of sexist garbage in the press that causes some like Hillary to be such a stilted politician.

Funny enough, the only real problem I had with Warren's joke is, somewhat ironically, addressed in the top response to that tweet:

And it reminds me of this picture:

EzzRMEl.jpg

And the problem is this: the continued insulation of women (particularly white women) from the perpetuation of bigoted ideas that harm at-risk minority communities.

The crux of Warren's joke is the assumption that the person insisting marriage is (and must be) between one man and one woman must be a socially maladjusted incel figure. But history and polling...shows that's not true at all. The men who believe this tend to be socially adjusted men, who have no problem getting female partners...who think just like them.

Huh?

By far the most vocal and visible opponents to gay marriage are men, it's not even close.

It was a guy posing the hypothetical, though. I'd agree that it does sorta echo all that, but she's addressing the response accordingly.

You're not wrong about the incel thing, though. We do have a tendency to sort of lump all socially maldujsted people in one basket, or rather, toss all shitty behaviors onto one figure.

About 95% of her leads have actually panned out - including her "Geraldo Moment" with the Trump tax summary which even then she conceded could have been leaked directly by Trump to throw off the scent - had value as an example of amateur hour obstruction - but Maddow's main skill is breaking down extremely complex political, criminal or legal ideas into plain concepts.

Plenty of people have an allergic reaction to her style but the information is top notch for the most part. What makes people think it's mass arrest porn is that she's typically explaining shit that SHOULD result in mass arrests.

I re-read the initial Barr memo release thread a couple months back, and that thread is ground zero for why our country is fucked. More people are outraged at the people showing how fucked our country is over the people actually fucking up said country. LIke I know ignorance is bliss but come on.

Maddow has basically been posting FACTS this entire time and it's not her fault that half of government and most of law enforcement are complicit and want to keep the public in the dark about the multitude of crimes and theft happening above them. Her job is the dissemination of knowledge and she's one of the best at it. What people do with said knowledge is up to them.

Re-read what I posted, that does nothing to refute my claim.
You said, "it's not even close." It traditionally has been.

What's "visible" depends on where you're looking. If you're a member of twitter/youtube culture, I can see that stereotypical "figure" looking a particular way. For me? Growing up in the black church in LA, I can't say that some of the most homophobic and threatening language I heard growing up didn't come from the women I was raised around. So I honestly didn't even need to be varified by polling data to go, "....ehhhh..." at that particular bit of Warren's joke.

Your looking at your personal experience.
I'm referring to national figures and media.

Now to what degree this is caused by disproportionate coverage of men (in general), and the lack of representation of women in religion, I can't say.

I took Warren assuming it was a guy was just for the sake of imagining the scenario, so she could use the "Just marry one woman line" Nothing deeper.

Hot take: men and women can be homophobic, but men are statistically likelier to physically hurt me. Ergo, I've always associated hateful, sonofabitch men with the word "homophobe."

I think too - and I fully admit this is just me talking out of my ass over having any statistics to back it up - in conservative, religious households you often have the men making the political decisions for the rest of the family. So if the man opposes same-sex marriage, his wife and children better too.

May be ignorance on my part but from what I've seen, women who marry into ultra-religious households sacrifice a lot of their autonomy on pretty much everything.

So when I see the gap between men and women on marriage equality not being that big, all I picture is a man screaming about the gays getting married and the woman nodding along in passive, silent approval.

She assumed a guy
I took Warren assuming it was a guy was just for the sake of imagining the scenario, so she could use the "Just marry one woman line" Nothing deeper.
That and the person questioning her was a guy and he used the phrase "one man marrying one woman." And she even prefaced this by saying "I am going to assume it's a guy" and the person didn't correct her.

Agreed. Men are far more likely to be physically violent towards LGBT people than women. Women tend to be that passive aggressive hateful.

I thought she said she was assuming that it was a man for the purpose of the point so she could say "so marry one woman" and not homophobes are probably all men. At least that's how I understood it.

Yes, but let's not let Rubio off the hook for that massive massive hypocrisy, after all that his party has done to screw over so many people.
