So Lamont has been a pretty bad governor and has already pissed off most of the legislature and will almost certainly be a single termer

Malloy was also incredibly unpopular, but won re-election. The other issue is that Connecticut's in the middle of an economic downturn, because after a long period of time when major companies were moving out to the suburbs to large campuses, they're heading back to city centers and a lot of companies had moved out to CT from NYC in the 70's and 80's.

Trump Jr goes nowhere. Not even the Trumpers like him. He's just so dry and Jebby

The person to worry about in 2024 who can hold up the Trumpist label is Tucker. In fact, if I was an Establoshment Republican's, I'd hope Don Jr. & Tucker wins, so somebody blandly evil like Nikki Haley or Ron DeSantis can win.

Not hearing any politicians discussing this but holy cow what is happening here?
- What is going on with state governments not paying teachers, leaving many vacant teacher jobs
- If "foreigners" are coming in to teach but anti-immigration policies from Republican administrations prevent that, then that's even more pressure on the existing US education system.
- Is this the new "H1B visa" abuse and if so, what has been done with regards to the H1B situation that can be applied here?
- I wonder what kind of a rabbit hole this can lead down to with other industries potentially abusing their own specific visas to do similar things.

800 Filipino teachers is nothing. According to BLS, in 2014 there was 3.5 million teacher positions alone. Now, are there shortages? Sure. The economy is good and people are making more money doing something else instead of teaching. If we go into a recession, then the teacher workforce will increase due to the job security.

In that video, the woman said her salary from a Chicago school is like $50k+. She pays $600+ rent monthly as well. That's honestly a fairly respectful financial situation to be in. Why aren't local Americans taking up a job like that? It also says that the Chicago public school district has 700+ opening listed on its website so the opportunities are there. This is baffling what's happening.

This is the thing about teaching. Everyone thinks they can do it because they use to be a student. But not a lot go get a degree in it, get the certifications, want to give the cops their fingerprints for the background check, have to deal with crazy parents, pushy administrators, fill out tons of paper work for 504s and IEPs, stress about state testing, and do that all on salary while taking care of their own family. I have been teaching for 6 years and the job is not for everyone. And 50k in Chicago is nothing with the cost of living and high tax rate. I make 60k in the Dallas area but don't have to pay state income tax like they do.

Trump will be in court for years after he is out of office. Hopefully he dies early penniless on the street

Being an ex-president will only make his grift an easier sell, if anything. I expect the most ardent cultists among his supporters will prop him up finanically for years to come. Which is absolutely fucking revolting, but so are the times we live in.

Is this in reference to anything specific?

Mostly deranged Bernie stans who portray Warren's having been a Republican and voting for Gerald Ford in '76 as a mark of the beast but will tell us that he's ~~~evolved~~~ or he didn't really mean it when he voted for the crime bill.

Men get to change and grow; women are scheming, dishonest, Reaganite harpies.

In 2024 we could see some truly insane shit on the Republican side.

Like nominee Sean Hannity, or something. After Trump, all bets are off.

I think my favorite was arguing with a friend about it and he was like "well OF COURSE Bernie had to vote for the crime bill, because he supported the good parts that were in it!"

Isn't it great when your favored politician gets to only support the good parts of a shit sandwich bill, but a politician you don't like for unrelated reasons is solely responsible for the bad parts?

Just as I refused to think about 2020 until after 2018, I refuse to think about 2024 until after next year - or, more likely, until after 2022.

Ugh.

I am so over the left's idolatry of purity tests that most of them wouldn't even pass.

The Trump base that "runs" the party will be gone when Trump is gone. Republican voters will fall in line with whoever the GOP tells them to vote for.
Eh... They didn't when Trump ran in 2016. It was definitely not his turn. Part of the base wanted Trump because he was finally their guy. They had to settle with moderates before, during 2016, they didn't have to. If someone runs on the nativist, right-wing populist rhetoric that Trump gave, the part of the Republican base will go towards that candidate.

Trump and his influence will likely remain an active force within Republican circles. The reason the establishment hated Trump at the start was because they lost control of the working class and rural voters. Someone else can easily do that again.

Actual Fox News quote about someone who jumped from the World Trade Center on 9/11: "Her last gesture of human decency was to hold her skirt down before she killed herself."
Not sure if this was posted before.

Every one of these people has an extensive and lurid porn history in their browser.

Having a penis thrust in your face at a drunken dorm party may seem like harmless fun. But when Brett Kavanaugh did it to her, Deborah Ramirez says, it confirmed that she didn't belong at Yale in the first place.
NYTimes come get your peoples.

Edit: Perfect example of why including the text of the tweets is helpful.

Why even delete the tweet? They wasn't an accident. If you want right wing psycho's to read your paper then just target them, stop trying to play both sides.

Did they mean "seems like harmless fun if you're a predator like our Supreme Court justice Kavanaigh" and they didn't have the space?
