Well I just saw a new offensive false equivalence on my facebook:

You are a hypocrite if you think immunizations should be mandatory, but women should be able to choose between abortion and pregnancy.

Is someone out there forwarding legislation to force adults to have immunizations that I missed?

that isn't an actual question.

So what happened to Gillibrand? I mean I knew she was never going to be a front-runner, but I thought she would at least exist somewhere in the 2nd tier of candidates. But she's flat-out getting 0% and she's polling behind vanity/book tour candidates and joke characters. Can someone diagnose what happened? Is it backlash for Al Franken or is it something else? I can't understand how someone who had at least some national ID is polling at 0% and other candidates like Booker are having to throw donors into her coffee cup so she can qualify for the debates.

I'm not on the ground there, but looking from the outside she doesn't seem to be doing... anything? Relative to the other candidates, she seems to be making no noise (though I guess that could be the fault of the media for not covering whatever she might be doing).

She had a series of stumbles related to her past votes, never really adequalately explained the reason for those votes, and then just seem to fall off the radar by doing no events, no media stops. She basically left the ground game to the wind. Last I heard (months ago) she had major campaign problems among staff members and that is literally the last I have heard from her. She is justifiably at 0%, which to me is surprising as I always felt she was a more shrewd politician then this.

Actually a lot of states should be doing more to rigorously enforce the immunization of children who attend public places (all children) but the media should immediately stop framing it as a debate where a minority of parents have legitimate questions or concerns or frankly even the right to endanger their own and other people's children.

Call them what they are : paranoid selfish pariahs who repeat conspiracy theories and cause deaths. And assholes like Jenny McCarthy should be frozen out of their jobs till they stop spreading lies and apologize for the uncountable but very real fatal infections and outbreaks they've caused and are personally responsible for.

If I went to a school with a bag of bubonic plague carrying rats I would be prosecuted and reviled. Not quizzed on my "point of view"

Matt Gaetz, of course.

Flynn sent Twitter direct messages to Rep. Matt Gaetz, encouraging the Florida Republican to "keep the pressure on." It's not clear if Flynn sent additional messages to other lawmakers.

"You stay on top of what you're doing. Your leadership is so vital for our country now. Keep the pressure on," Flynn wrote in an April 2018 message to Gaetz, which was obtained by CNN.

I wouldn't put Castro in LOL. He'd probably be Vanity/$$$ or At Least Not Gillibrand. He's had some good sound bites lately.

Otherwise, 100% accurate.

Naw I think Castro is in the right spot. He actually announced a legit immigration policy plan and he's had at least a little visibility. I also think he registers at 1-2% in a few polls.

Overall chart is about right. Basically the first 4 tiers are legit and can pretty much forget about everything afterward. Ideally after the 2nd debates, it'll just be those candidates in the top 4 tiers. The rest really are just noise.

Reminds me of the California Recall election way back in 2003 when we had movie actors, plumbers, and porn stars running for governor.

I hate to always be a Debbie downer, but that generic-ass DM hardly seems like a smoking gun.

It reads like he saw him on hannity and wanted to send him a nice note.

It's unreal to me that Mueller hasn't testified in front of the country yet

He's extremely by the book, doesn't have the slightest interest in media attention, and doesnt want to get involved in political theater.

These were some of his best features as a special counsel, but its also one of the drawbacks post report because he obviously doesnt want to deal with partisan committees.

You could say he's loyal to a fault as far as following the law and procedure goes, but considering how blatantly transparent Barr is being I'd be surprised if we dont at least hear from someone on his team in the next couple of months.

Except one of them at that time is a National Security Adviser under investigation for working with hostile foreign governments and the other is a sitting congressman on the following committees :

Ok, but what did he say that can be construed to be in any way improper?

If you think Pelosi has some grand strategy leading to impeachment read this article. She doesn't want to impeach.

Sorry meant push for it to be killed. We all know the filibuster isnt going anywhere under Joe Biden even if they had the votes
I feel like the candidates most devoted to getting rid of the filibuster wouldn't enter office having the Senate. Or even if they did, the margin we might need to get rid of it (like, Manchin probably isn't voting for that) won't be there. Meanwhile the candidate who doesn't want to touch it probably could get the margin.

Kinda sucks. It might be a 2022 thing.

I was under the impression that charter schools were the ones that aren't a big deal and it was some other kind of private school that causes issues but maybe I'm misremembering
You're probably thinking of vouchers, which siphon money from public schools to give rich (white) parents a break on their kids' private school tuition and exacerbate de facto segregation.

They're heinous, but charter schools, which place a public good in private hands and also draw money from the same pot as public schools, are also bad. I oppose them strenuously. We need public education - fully public education - with adequate funding and resources, not veiled attempts to drain money from the public coffers.

I imagine black Democrats might support charters more on paper because public schools themselves are also de facto segregated by our inequitable property-tax funding scheme: students in rich areas attend fully funded schools with abundant resources, while students in poor areas have dilapidated buildings, no supplies, and higher rates of poverty. Given how class is racialized in this country, I needn't tell you which groups are likely to attend which schools. Black Democrats might see charters as a way for their kids to "break out" of that system; they represent an opportunity, even a remote one that really isn't what it appears to be. The problem, however, is that charters are another symptom of the structural racism and discrimination in the public school system, not a solution. Unfortunately, I don't think most people in general, voters especially, consider the issue that deeply.

But maybe I'm generalizing and talking out of my ass. I'd love to be corrected.

vouchers are more destructive because it straight-up allows wealthy people to choose to not put money into the school system at all.

charters are still pretty bad because they replace public schools with private businesses that still suck money from the public school system.
