It was either this or an all caps REIGN DEATH AND DESTRUCTION tweet from a year ago and I'd much prefer this.

To be fair, it is a victory for Trump, he assassinated the top Iranian general and their response was to attack empty bases.

This jackass is gonna be so smug tomorrow morning about this and it's gonna be awful.

Well, this concluded Iran's overt response. They still can wreak plenty of havoc ambiguously through proxies, but they decided to have a military response for this as well. This isn't the end of things, even if the US doesn't respond.

So the attacks don't seem to have killed any US personnel (but perhaps casualties for poor Iraqis stuck in the middle)...and Iran gets to save face by claiming they retaliated in self defense under UN conventions? Welp. It's a nice out for the US to pack up and leave, but Trump is a narcissistic asshole, so I wouldn't be surprised if he declares war over Twitter tomorrow 🙄

That's what I was saying. He's going to show how "great" he is and can do without any significant retaliation. His base is going to eat this shit up
Iran had the nerve to attack though, which he said they wouldn't, his gloating can be halted almost immediately.

Iran doesn't operate openly. They fund attacks all over the world. The actual response is going to be much messier and not directly attributable to Iran.

So far this is all pretty textbook. No US casualties because Iran didn't want any. Everyone saves face and life goes on.

Unless Trump fucks it up.

IMO whether Iran will be able to see today's events as a win will all depend on if they can convince the Iranian population that this was a proper, successful response which might be hard to do if word comes out that indeed no American blood was spilled (providing those reports are true of course). And that's also providing Trump doesn't retaliate anyway.

They've been doing that for years though. But it's obvious no war with Iran is coming.

It just doesn't sit well with me that some part of the balance rests in this fucker's tiny hands.

Trump saying "all is well" when we're within inches of an American-Iranian war is truly a Baghdad Bob moment

This was not a win in any way if you really assess the current geopolitical situation. US looks really fucking dumb putting the entire region in the cusp of war, their soft power is at an all time low, Putin is laughing his ass off, Iran will put it's Quds operations into overdrive, Iran's entire population is unified, and Iraq wants the US out.

This was a huge own goal, Suleimani got more than he could've dreamed of by getting assassinated. It puts US personel and operational ability from Lebanon to Pakistan at varying levels of jeopardy.

That tweet is better than expected. Not escalating over some missiles hitting dirt is unexpected and welcome

I just don't know what Shia vs Sunni shit has to do with American lives.

Can't we just let them figure this shit out themselves, and only use diplomacy instead of war?

I think when people say this is a "win" for Trump they mean more for him personally (and his political power within the US itself) and not so much the long-term implications of the wider events. He and his goons will eat this shit up. "We killed their general and they did nothing."

Hopefully Trump is mollified that no Americans were killed, and when Iraq boots US troops out he doesn't make a fuss about it.

Sounds like the best possible outcome. We killed one of their top generals...Iran had to "save face" so-to-say. From what it sounds like it seems they intentionally targeted places where causalities are minimal to none (which doesn't always mean death, injuries are casualties as well). From what Iran's saying this is basically their response and they will not escalate further if we don't.

EDIT: Of course the situation could always take a turn for the worse if our current administration escalates further.

that's the main point of concern right now. We're literally waiting on how Trump decides to respond to this, which is probably exactly what he wanted. The decision is in his hands now and he pretty much determines the fate of Iran within the next 48 hours. The moron is probably sleeping with a full belly in his jammies by now and will be up in the morning with a huge ugly grin on his face.

so has anyone decided to differentiate between suuni militias and jihadist wahhabi fundamentalists yet...
You know the answer to this...

Get me on my soapbox stating that every time this country uses force (which is a violation of the U.N. Charter except in specific situations, such as self-defense), it needs to explain against whom, why, where, when, how, and for how long... oh, and under what specific legal authorities.

Anyone know what Hannity is saying about this now?

Our response is predicated upon him and what the jokers on Fox and Friends say tomorrow morning.

His hour was basically "Trump is a dove that doesn't want war, the left politicizes war, but we should bomb the shit out of their oil fields."

Oh that it is Obama's fault, too.

I say Trump co-wrote that Tweet. It´s crazy enough.

China´s and India´s military got the US beat btw who cares who would win:
"Largest army" doesn't mean much. Iraq had a larger army than the US in the Gulf War, it was swiftly defeated. China is actually actively reducing the size of its army to make it smaller, more mobile, professional fighting force.
