I hope this was an accident but youre overlooking the introduction of the only other UC protagonist we've had in ChloeTLOU. Everything important (story, characters, music) was better then Uncharted 2. Last of Us introduced classic side characters like Tess and so many others. Uncharted 2 introduced a dude name Jeff 😑
Both games are topped by Uncharted 4 though.
But that's not The Last of Us. It's not just "assholes in the apocalypse murdering each other." Both parts of The Last of Us have a broad color palette including funny characters and moments, likeable characters and moments, heartwarming characters and moments, tragic characters and moments, characters and moments without any murder or killing involved, etc.To me, any story that is about assholes in the apocalypse murdering each other is apocalypse porn. The sequel ratcheted up the misery even more, but at the end of the day, the first game was still a depressing game full of terrible people being terrible to each other.
I do get this though, insofar as you might more broadly want to avoid really heavy media (because life is usually heavy enough). Let's just not misrepresent some great art, here!I just don't jive with the apocalypse fiction genre unless it's treated with inherent silliness.
I don't remember TLOU's enemies really being bullet sponges though? Definitely nothing on the level of Uncharted 2.uncharted 2
ironically, last of us' gunplay being so much like uncharted is a big flaw
the big gunfights with bullet sponge enemies works in a pulpy action thriller but not in a realistic survivor shooter. last of us 2's gameplay is a big improvement
uncharted 2 also has a minority character that is not only heroic but survives the entire game (TENZIN FTW) which is more than both last of us games can say
maybe TLOU1's enemies were less bullet spongey than Uncharted but it felt the same to me. I think the initial E3 gameplay showcase set my expectations too high because the AI in the final game was really bad. Youtuber hyperbithero, did a good analysis video on itI don't remember TLOU's enemies really being bullet sponges though? Definitely nothing on the level of Uncharted 2.
Otherwise agree on all, wholeheartedly.
UC1 has definitely aged badly. A lot of the encounter design is absolutely broken by modern standards. The Customs House is like some kind of sick joke, I don't know how it made it past playtesting. As is that weird square room with all the water on the floor and the scaffolding everywhere.
I still LIKE UC1, but its encounter design is reeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllly rough. They learned a lot from making that game and you can literally feel the encounter design getting smarter and more thought out with each subsequent game, especially as Nate's combat options become more and more fleshed out.
god, the idea of uncharted 4's shooting and grappling hook with uncharted 2's perfect pacing is making me salivateWhen you think about, Uncharted 2 kinda deserved the remake treatment that tlou received.
Uncharted 2 remake for PS5 would be one hell of a next gen blockbuster

lost legacy is pretty great yeah, but uncharted 2 still reigns supreme. there's a location jump or two but once Drake is in the jeep in Nepal, the entire game is now from his eyes
This again is why I think Uncharted 2 is the best. It was a combination of Hennig and Druckmann. When they each made their own solo Uncharted they were both mid af. Uncharted 3 was just a bunch of cool set pieces held haphazardly together by bullshit plot, and then Uncharted 4 was a retread of the same damn plot beats, just boring af, with arguably the worst composer Naughty Dog has ever worked with. It was soulless for A thief's end and incoherent for Drake's Deception.lost legacy is pretty great yeah, but uncharted 2 still reigns supreme. there's a location jump or two but once Drake is in the jeep in Nepal, the entire game is now from his eyes
and nothing beats the coolness of going from the frigid Himalayas to the lush jungles of Shambala. Uncharted 3's version didn't hit as hard since it was a desert city in the desert
I also miss the weird supernatural stuff in the first two games with the el dorado zombies and guardians. Uncharted 4 did away with it but I still like that better than the hallucinogenic water in 3
maybe it's because I built up the idea that Talbot in 3 was a Djinn in my head what with the way he acts completely different when he's away from Marlow. With her, he's just a standard bad guy but when he's alone he felt nearly omnipotent with how he can just disappear and appear anywhere he wants. none of that is really explained until the writers haphazardly answered them after the game was released that he was just using "black ops techniques"
TLOU. Uncharted 2 is fine, but it doesn't hold up as well as TLOU IMO.
TLOU remains ND's finest I think. Uncharted 4 following somewhat closely behind
They've released two games, a story DLC, a PS4 port of the first game and are about to release a PS5/PC remaster and an HBO TV show adaptation as well, all over the course of nine years.
In that same time frame, Uncharted had four main entries across two generations of consoles, a fully fledged spin-off title developed for the Vita alongside a Vita exclusive card game, a remaster collection released on PS4, a browser platformer that served as the official narrative prequel to the first game, a board game in 2012, a four issue comic run in 2009 as well as an eleven issue run in 2011 and a canonical interlude novel released in that same year. Since then, there's been another spin-off/standalone DLC entry, a mobile puzzler, a remaster of Uncharted 4 and The Lost Legacy for PS5 and PC and a theatrical film adaptation.
Just say you don't like The Last of Us 2 or whatever your issue is, lol.
Wait, what? This makes it sound like we've gotten a lot more TLoU games than Uncharted
When you think about, Uncharted 2 kinda deserved the remake treatment that tlou received.

in contrast to his glowing analysis of TLOU2's gameplay
I'm a total weirdo that thought U2 was really dull but somehow loved U3? Definitely prefered TLoU1 over U2. I should replay 2 some time because I think I was just expecting too much out of it at the time.
