Jo Johnson is the brother of current British PM Boris Johnson, and was until this morning a minister in the current Tory Government.

He has now resigned and made it clear that the reason for his resignation is a belief that the Government is not operating in the National Interest.

A frankly stunning act, even in these febrile times. The PM's own brother has no confidence that he or his government are acting in the national interest. Two former Chancellors, the Father of the House, Winston Churchill's grandson, etc. They all know Boris Johnson is in this for one thing: himself.

I'm so glad people aren't following Boris and his mad quest to self destruction. The general election is going to be such a mess though.

Bojo is committing political suicide, and taking the Conservative party with him.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't enjoying all the drama............

Fucking brilliant. Bojo's shitfest of a party is disintegrating around him. And the decent people there are doing the right thing and getting the fuck out of there.

The ERG have dug their own graves.

To some extent, a good chunk of Tories are wary as to why the most ardent Brexit supporters want to crash out rather than come to any kind of reasonable agreement.

I don't think self-immolation was part of the grand vision they've signed up for, we've all seen the leaked projections on what will happen with no deal.

That's an enormous weapon to use against Johnson in any upcoming election.

So misguided that his own family can't support him!

I am still confused, do most people in the UK want Brexit or no?
There are vocal people on both sides and just like in the US, people are becoming deeper and deeper entrenched in their views. I'm very much a Remainer, so I would say most people don't want it. The problem is there there are a bunch of people like me, who wish to Remain. Then, there is a another group of people who all want different things.

For example, I want to eat pancakes, but then a whole group of people decided they want to eat ice cream and on top of that, nobody can decide on the flavour and I'm having to go along, despite being lactose-intolerant, in choosing the flavour of ice cream I'm going to be forced into eating.

No - I think if a referendum was to take place, remain would get around 60%. The vast majority want this shit fest over and done with.

I really wouldn't be so sure. A lot of people are swayed by the bullshit argument that since a majority voted for it last time, it's anti-democratic to vote against it again. A lot of people are also of the opinion that it might be better at this point just to get it over with and leave. Brexit fatigue in action. Obviously the usual social media suspects are pushing these attitudes hard.

It should be pointed out this isn't very surprising. He quit as minister under May to back a second referendum so it was more surprising he ever got back into bed with his no deal brother in the first place.

Fuck you, traitor. We voted for ice cream, and that means pistachio ice cream. I didn't see a checkbox on the voting form for "no ice cream that will actually kill people with nut allergies", did you? The fact of the matter is that an unprecedented number of people voted for ice cream, and no amount of your sore loser lactose-intolerant whining should be allowed to change that.

Yeah but those decent people are going to be replaced with insane zealots and the Tories will go full GOP. Given that there will always be a large part of England that will continue to vote Tory no matter what that's potentially quite dangerous in the long term.

Despite the sarcasm, that still triggered me lol

Asked whether he and his brother are "like" the Milibands, Boris Johnson said: "Absolutely not. We don't do things that way, that's a very left-wing thing ... only a socialist could do that to his brother, only a socialist could regard familial ties as being so trivial as to shaft his own brother.
"I mean, unbelievable. Only lefties can think like that ... they see people as discrete agents devoid of ties to society or to each other, and that's how Stalin could murder 20 million people."

They barely won a referendum when promising unicorns and the easiest trade deal of all time.

So I think it's fair to say a majority absolutely do not want Boris complete destruction of our relationship with our closest trading partners, no.

You know, this type of move is something I never expect in current day US politics on a matter at the level of brexit. So at least props to him for that.

Older poll, but it suggests that the biggest public support for Leave was pooled just before and after the referendum. Shouldn't really be surprising that they can't get a majority of MPs to support no deal.

Couldn't have happened to a more deserving PM. Boris lied and cheated for Brexit. All so he could get a crack at PM. When that backfired he stood back and waited for the dust to settle before trying once more the title of PM. Now he's got it and it's falling apart as it should be.

I have no sympathy for pond scum like Boris Johnson who I would place in order of blame, up there was Cameron and Farrage. Peoples lives have been ruined, he has brought the Union to the brink and he threatens to set back out economy by decades. He's not even worth the shit on my shoe.

EDIT:

Just for clarity. Brexit cost me my job. It's made my wife fear for her place in this country. Call me biased, I'm just being honest at this point.

Some people think getting it over with, no deal means it will be over with, probably not, decade easily.

Some people think getting a deal will sort it but nobody can agree on what that should be and red lines make it impossible to have anything of worth as a deal plus the unsolvable Ireland problem.

I honestly think revoking the whole thing either through a referendum is the end game because people just won't accept being part of the EU with no say or not being part of the EU. Both are unappealing but one sort of delivers on the referendum, the former. Clusterfuck.

People are so easily swaying by lies, emotion and simple headlines. Migrant crisis could easily flip people and you can bet the papers and Brexiters will have that ready to go if remain is ever an option. It's fear and shit goverments not doing their jobs, we could nip so many issues in the bud but successive goverments have messed up.

"A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both"
Jo Johnson compromised his integrity by joining his brother after publicly supporting a second ref, now he resigns with nothing and hated by all

I think Dominic Cummings might not be the genius master strategist he was made out to be.
