nonsense. if you look at John Curtice's analysis, if you look at the seat maps, if you look at the individual results, if you look at the 2017 results, if you look at the Lib Dem results it's crystal clear that Brexit is the largest factor.

Jeremy Vine just did a seat-by-seat analysis on the BBC of Labour losses. his conclusion, word for word: "not the only factor, but it's clear Brexit was the biggest factor here."
Exactly.

I've been saying forever that the amount of hate Corbyn gets from his own party for having the reputation of being anti EU was idiotic.

Had he come out as a remainer and turned the party into a remain party it would've been a never ending bloodbath since 2016. Theresa May might still have been PM.

Just look at all the swings in non hard leave seats. Look at the presence. Look at the number of votes Labour got everywhere.

This is a lot worse than I expected. I fear the same will happen if Democrats in the US pick the wrong candidate in their primary.

Feeling real suicidal...and all the lib gloating doesn't help.

Goddamn, haven't had a decent year since I was 19...

Everything has gone to shit and I never stood a chance, just...what is the point?

This is how I'm feeling. This world has shown me nothing but a constant spiral down into 'fucked' since I turned 18. How the fuck are you even supposed to 'feel good' about the future when you don't even know what that feels like?

Just everything feels so fucking pointless. I hate it.

Tony Blair's Seat

There's no way Corbyn survives this. How he leaves is now up for debate. And who the hell steps in - Starmer?

For me, Labour needs to move back to a centre-left position. They can pick up more pragmatic Tory voters, while also appealing to their traditional base.

Historically, Labour doesn't win when it moves out to the left.

Tony Blair, the most successful Labour leader ever, won three back-to-back majorities from a centre-left position.

And it helped that he was incredibly effective politician. Whatever you think of Blair, the likes of Miliband and Corbyn aren't fit to lace his boots in the political arena.

Labour need a young, charismatic leader who can dominate the centre ground, pick off right of centre voters and press ahead with a liberal, but economically credible agenda.

I'm a self-confessed New Labour fan and others might disagree, but Labour has got no hope unless they start building out from the centre again.

Moderate voters will not vote for this Labour - or at least not enough of them to get a majority.

100%, that's exactly what we need, another leader that should be indicted for war crimes.

All this talk about a new referendum and correcting past mistakes...for nothing. I think it's time to admit that this is the direction most people want for the UK and just get a move on. Brexit needs to happen soon, the decision is clear. I feel sorry for the rest, sane people.

no idea how any of the SNP supporters in this thread think this result means independence is imminent. zero chance Johnson lets it happen. there will not be another indyref in this parliament. but it may increase the chance in the long term.

SNP is looking for European approval over and above Westminster. There is no precedence for this. Regardless, next year is going to be far rockier. Scotland is going to become much more hostile to Boris than it already is, and the independence movement is going to kick it up a lot.

Labour needs to dissolve as a party and something new needs to come in its place.

Its name and reputation is toxic at the moment.

The whole of the country is toxic, to be fair.

Ah man this is just leaving my head hot.

Yeah Brexit needs to happen after these results. Deal or no deal it seems like it doesn't matter. But it will need to happen now.

Boris can't even handle an Andrew Neil interview, he can't handle angry Scots.

How did it get to this bad, what happened, I feel like I don't know my country anymore.
I just want to go home and pet my dog, tell him it'll be alright.

Tory prick on STV saying SNP have no mandate for Indy Ref 2 since they won't have an overall majority percentage....but Boris will have a mandate for Brexit even without half of the popular vote. These slimy cunts...

I feel sorry for you folks. I wonder if we, Americans, are in for the same fate in 2020.
Before tonight I was thinking Trump would be gone next year, but now I'm thinking once the social media shite goes up a gear again, the repetitive vote-winning phrases are spewed out and drilled into the heads of the masses, and a bunch of bullshit smears are thrown at the Democrat candidate, I think the world will be stuck with him for another 4 years. All these right wing bastards are using the same tactics and they clearly work.

The worst thing about this election is that Corbyn will resign with his name besmirched. If he had come into power then maybe people could have seen that the media lied about him, but now he will be remembered by many as a weak and anti-Semitic leader.

The people drank the Kool-Aid

Boris Johnsons dad on channel 4 being a racist and people have voted for his son to be prime minister.

Fruit doesn't fall far from the tree does it.

All these excuses about the media and so on make it seem as if labour has never won election in history. They obviously have managed to do it before (and increased public welfare incredibly, at least domestically). But you have to do what it takes to win. Workers clearly and other non-highly educated or non-cosmopolitans voters are simply lost (in almost every country), since they will continue to vote on cultural, immigration and grievance issues. So if you wan't to reach more economic justice you will have to appeal to better educated folks. And guess what? Hardcore socialism doesn't appeal to them. So there are two tradeoffs in politics a) you sell out minorities to appeal to workers again, or b) you reduce your grand economic ambitions for more incremental technocratic changes. Otherwise European social democratic parties will continue their rapid decline.

What are the chances of Scotland seceding now? It feels like we are watching the Union dissolving itself in real time.

Any new leader who has been a remainer = death of the party.

The people want their brexit and dont give a fuck what happens or what they have to do until they get it.
