It almost feels like they should be focusing on making the lockdown stricter with these figures.
But people need to sunbathe with their bargain buckets I suppose.

Kuenssberg has asked if they're extending the lockdown today.

Raab says theres no change today to guidance or rules, PM will set out the roadmap on Sunday.

This is why they are easing the lockdown - they need to reassert control over what the guidelines are. People won't tolerate harsher restrictions right now as the situation has become normalised and the death numbers are abstractions. If they ease it (suggestions seem to be they are easing it basically to how people are currently acting anyway), and it has a negative effect then they can justifiably go stricter.

I popped onto The Sun's website and their top story certainly seems to frame Sturgeon as some barrier to everyone being able to go and have fun and get drunk in fields.

Oh gosh, Scoxit is going to be the next thing pushed by the rags isn't it?
People queued over half a mile and up to two hours for....

KFC?

Chicken-craving customers piled up outside a KFC drive-though in Basingstoke.
KFC ain't even shit man

The R number has increased slightly due to care homes.

Without even touching the guidelines, this government is fucking incompetent.

I hate the weekend lag too.

Like, we're going to have some numbers tomorrow which will probably be horribly high - then the long weekend means that we'll have three days of reduced numbers, all coinciding with a reopening plan being announced.

So really, the next sign of where we actually are won't be until Tuesday.

It's not something that can just be easily solved, but it's annoying nonetheless.

I wonder if govt dont want to lift lockdown, but through the tabloid press the govt is spreading a secondary message to encourage some people to socialise and spread the disease. Govt get to blame the public when a second wave spreads immunity but at the cost of mainly working class lives. Win win for the govt. Economy floats, they get to pass the buck.
Just catching up, but no. Most of the new spread is in care settings, not community. That's the current argument about gradual easing of lockdown. There is no herd immunity strategy.

Sounds like a total mess with testing in the UK.

Things looking up for once in Ireland with 137 cases today with only 22 of them outside care/nursing homes.
Government has been testing all residents and staff in care settings over last 2 weeks.

this briefing on sunday is being built up and up and it will be a huge dissapointment, nothing much will change (Sturgeon would of been spitting her haggis) if it looked like we were going a different way

I fully expect him to say school places are avaliable for lots of kids who are not using them, carry on as we are for a furthur 3 weeks, however those companies that can open safely and are allready allowed to can

It's been announced that our senior management are starting to have meetings to consider re-opening the offices.

They can fuck right off. I would not feel remotely safe being in an enclosed office with recirculated air conditioning before a vaccination is available.

Yeah, I'm pretty settled on it just being something very minor to begin with - whilst talking about further plans in the coming weeks/months.

I guess we'll find out on Sunday if the draft five-phase lockdown exit plan that some have seen is going to become the official strategy.
