Nigeria played Germany in 2010 at the WC in South Africa. Twitter was a different place then tho.
Why was that match even trending? Seems like a typical result
Isn't Nigerias abbreviation "NGA"
Not every broadcaster uses the official fifa codes, there have been some weird combinations through the years.
I imagine the abbreviation for Niger and Nigeria get conflated too
I only see germans talking/tweeting about the soccer game :P
Yeah I remember when Germany played Nigeria I think and they chose to go with NIG-GER on TV. Somebody really didn't think that one through back then. But Twitter and social media weren't that big back then but people were definitely talking about it.
There was this during the Olympics 2016.
Though when I wondered what kind of reaction it got back in the day I only found rather dubious sites reporting on it, so now I wonder if it's a photoshop
