As for this particular case, it's probably because she was supposed to be that "unreachable girl" that the protagonist has a crush on, so they made her the same age as him despite looking older.

And that brought its own cast of problems like having an underage girl that literally is meant to be more than eye candy or having a main character that is mostly useless for the entire run of the show.

Seriously, Gurren Lagann is one of my favorite anime ever, but Yoko, despite being one of the two most popular characters of the show, is easily the weakest link.

I see there are some people that don't understand that even fiction regarding paedophilia is illegal. Even writing something that directly encourages it is illegal. It's not a "thought crime" because there is an act that goes with it.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this... I follow a lot of really good anime artists but some of them do draw nsfw content that can fall under cp or are borderline close to it, and if we go by US laws which can be pretty broad (ex. in my state, you can be labeled as a child predator if you have intercourse with a 17 y/o and you're not within 4 years of age with said person), and if they enforce it like reddit does (even if they look 18+, if they're canonically not, it's still liable), I'm gonna have to say goodbye to a lot of people.
