They get a lot of unexpected attention on the first day of school and later face the temptation to do drugs.

Roadkill - PBS (Nov 1)

Roadkill is about Peter Laurence, a self-made forceful and charismatic politician. Peter's public and private life seems to be falling apart – or rather is being picked apart by his enemies. As the personal revelations spiral, he is shamelessly untroubled by guilt or remorse, expertly walking a high wire between glory and catastrophe as he seeks to further his own agenda while others plot to bring him down. However, events show just how hard it is, for both an individual and a country, to leave the past behind. With enemies so close to home, can Peter Laurence ever out-run his own secrets to win the ultimate prize?

Love & Anarchy - Netflix (Nov 4)

When Sofie, a career driven consultant and married mother of two, gets an assignment to modernize an old publishing house she meets young IT technician Max, and an unexpected flirtatious game begins. The story is based on the best selling thriller novel series with the same name by Ahmed Khaled Tawfik.

The comedy 'B Positive,' revolves around Drew, a therapist and newly divorced dad who is faced with finding a kidney donor when he runs into Gina, a rough-around-the-edges woman from his past who volunteers her own. Industry - HBO (Nov 9)

The series follows a group of young graduates competing for a limited set of permanent positions at a top investment bank in London – but the boundaries between colleague, friend, lover, and enemy soon blur as they immerse themselves in a company culture defined as much by sex, drugs, and ego as it is by deals and dividends. As members of the group rise and fall, they must decide whether life is about more than the bottom line.

A Teacher - Hulu (Nov 10)

'A Teacher' explores the complexities and consequences of a predatory relationship between a young teacher and her student. Popular and outgoing, Eric is the captain of the soccer team and nearly inseparable from his best friends. Everything seems perfect on the surface, but Eric is forced to juggle the pressures of school, applying for college and a part-time job, all while helping take care of his two younger brothers. As Claire and Eric begin to spend more time together, boundaries are crossed, and a subtle game of grooming begins. The permanent damage left in the wake of Claire's choices becomes impossible for them, and their friends and family, to ignore.

Alex is soon approached by Alan Blunt, head of a top-secret offshoot of MI6 known as The Department, who reveals that he's been unknowingly trained since childhood for the dangerous world of espionage. Pressured to leave his old life behind, Alex goes undercover to investigate the connection between the deaths of two billionaires and a remote boarding school called Point Blanc. Upon arrival, he discovers that the students are subjects in the megalomaniacal school director's plan led to gain control of their families' business empires. Aided by his classmate Kyra, best friend Tom, and his au pair Jack, Alex exposes the plot's global network and begins his career as MI6's youngest covert asset.

I'll probably check out Industry, A Teacher, Black Narcissus, Moonbase 8, Marvel 616 and possibly The Flight Attendant for new shows. Just His Dark Materials for returning stuff.

Still a solid month with all the other stuff currently airing.

You weren't kidding about it being a quiet month.

Of passing interest: Roadkill, Rise of the Nazis, Industry, Black Narcissus.

I'll continue The Crown and His Dark Materials, and catch up with last months stuff I haven't gotten to yet, including Queen's Gambit and Barbarians.

Supernatural is ending.

Yeah, definitely a lighter month for me in terms of new shows. But there is still so much in my backlog to check out.

Big Sky is interesting to me on ABC because of the cast.

Nice seeing Animaniacs return on Hulu.

Saturday, 7
(Gemusetto Machu Picchu - Adult Swim - 1/12c)
Haven't seen season one and not typically into the stuff that comes from Adult Swim's streaming content. We'll see.

Monday, 9
Industry - HBO - 10/9c
Trailers haven't done much for me but I'll give it a shot.

Tuesday, 10

(A Teacher - Hulu)
Another show that should be airing on AMC proper that is going straight to Hulu. Will watch when/if I subscribe, or when it hits linear.

Monday, 16
His Dark Materials - HBO - 9/8c
Didn't really care for Season 1 all that much but it's a light month.

Friday, 20
(Animaniacs - Hulu)
Not currently a Hulu subscriber but this will probably make me crack. Was trying to hold off for Handmaid's...

Monday, 23
Black Narcissus - FX - 8/7c
Large shoes to fill here. Again... super-light month so I'll give it a go.

Wednesday, 25
Great Pretender - Netflix
Highlight of the month. The first half of this show was fantastic, especially for fans of Lupin. Feels like a modern take and is just so jaunty. Great animation, music, just a joy.

(Saved by the Bell - Peacock)
Morbid curiosity. Loved the original as a kid.

There's also a few HBO docs coming this month that look good:
www.hbo.com

What’s New (and What’s Leaving) HBO

See what shows, movies, and more are coming to — and leaving — HBO Max this month.

Murder on Middle Beach - 11/15
Crazy, Not Insane - 11/18
The Mystery of DB Cooper - 11/25

Also Between the World and Me, on 11/21, based on the Ta-Nehisi Coates book.

So the third day was actually good? Was worried it might be gimmick heavy/not able to deliver on the premise, which is a premise that already has some heavy hitters in recent years (cults and whatnot). Maybe I will give it a go.

Ted Lasso and Raised by Wolves were goooood times though, agree with that in the OP. Not sure what I'll be picking up other than random guilty pleasures like the good doctor.

Glad a lot of shows seem to be 6 to 8 episodes. I should be able to knockoff quite a bit of them. Even more so if were headed towards another lockdown and work shuts down again *sigh*

Good start of the month anyway; Primal finale was damn good, as was the whole first season. Bring on the second one already and Genndy's new show 'Unicorn: Warriors Eternal' asap.

Will finish up The Queen's Gambit with the last two episodes tomorrow. I don't know my chess from my tic-tac-toe, but I've been enthralled by it nonetheless. So good.

Just in case, because I see the ten eps are called season one, Primal had five eps last year.

Finished Search Party Season 1 via HBO Max. Make for a quick binge over a few days with the episodes being so short. The mystery angle intrigued me and it's mostly a show about self-absorbed people in crazy/weird situations. I did find it pretty funny and plan to check out Season 2.

Primal was epic.

I finished To The Lake, the Netflix show from Russia about a pandemic starting. It was OK, clearly low budget, and it included a premise you don't often see in this genre, which is the Russian military has a let's say very not humanitarian response. A warning about the ending though, it's a cliffhanger. I didn't necessarily expect a conclusion, as the show is about the journey of the family and neighbors, but it's annoying to insert a cliffhanger. No word on a season two yet.

Finished up Lucifer Season 1 last night on Netflix. Been a minute since I had a cop/not a cop show in my rotation, which is partly why I enjoyed the show. Liked the partnership between Lucifer/Chloe a lot and the ways it changes over the season. He doesn't seem to be that powerful, but I can understand not making him OP for the structure of the series. Hope they continue to develop some of the supporting characters like Maze and the therapist as the show goes forward.

When Wednesday dawned and all seemed lost I decided, what the hell, let's watch some trash and decided to put on some Warrior Nun.

The internet has failed me again because this was pretty good. Some pacing problems for sure, our heroine 'refuses the call' for way too long, but besides that it was a surprising good time with a solid cast(both Alba Baptista and Kristina Tonteri-Young, as Ava and Sister Beatrice respectively, are excellent), plenty of scenery porn, and ninja nuns.

A more worthwhile experience than Raised By Wolves, that's for sure.

Woah, assuming Warrior Nun was trash? Tsk tsk.

It's 70% critic 74% audience on RT. Good show, and I thought the lead actress was excellent in it.

Woah, assuming Warrior Nun was trash? Tsk tsk.

It's 70% critic 74% audience on RT.
Hey, that was just the vibe that I always got from it, everywhere I've looked that isn't Tumblr, including here, seemed pretty down on it. Which, having now watched it, is completely crazy.

Good show, and I thought the lead actress was excellent in it.
She really was, a very lively and fun performance.

Soulmates wrapped up its season tonight. Overall thought the series was okay, but no one episode in particular really blew me away. Hard for an anthology series to reach the highs of something like Black Mirror. There were some solid ones throughout the 6 episode run.

No buzz about this at all but just wanted to chime in that Hulu's "A Teacher" is trash. Literally no character development for the Kate Mara character at all, so when she does inexplicable things within days of meeting the kid, all the audience is left with is "well damn she's a bad person!". The show is little more than an infomercial for why grooming is bad, spends no time on exploring why these people are the way they are.

PBS' Rise of the Nazis was very interesting. First ep was a few days ago. As the first ep says at the end, there are important lessons there about how quickly democracy can die.

Low budget, really? (not a snide "really", but a surprised "really")

I am watching To The Lake now as well, and I am struck by how beautiful and well-shot the series is. I think it's better looking and has more flair than a lot of the Western crap that the streaming services pump out these days. I think it honestly rivals some movies I've seen recently.

Just finished watching the Big Sky pilot. Not sure if I will keep watching, even though I like Kylie Bunbury and Katheryn Winnick. Subject matter isn't for me, some really bad dialogue, obvious/bad character decisions, although it did have one big surprise.

2 characters with obvious mommy issues though.

Funniest line was when a wife told her husband "You need to touch me more" while he is eating soup.

Might give it another episode or 2 to see where it goes.

Finished Search Party 2 last night. Show is really starting to grow on me. It has some of the best comedic reactions from characters.

Finished Lucifer Season 2. Been awhile since I watched a season that is 18 episodes, and Season 3 is even longer Still enjoying it and it becomes even more apparent how it's almost a dysfunctional heavenly family drama with the addition of a certain character. I do really like all the core characters and the connection of Lucifer/Chloe.

Might take a break for a bit before I start the next season, to knock out some other series.

USA
Watching Mrs. Fletcher (HBO Max) on a whim. Got through four episodes, longer than I've lasted for most recent HBO shows. It's good. A character study of numerous people in various stages of their lives going through transformative experiences.

I think it's probably going to appeal mostly to people over 30 as we can look back and remember what it was like to be the jock or cool kid, perhaps the kid who didn't have a great high school experience, the divorced single parent, the people who are successful but feel like they should be doing something else in life, etc. I'm not imagining many 20-somethings watching this and really getting into it, but hopefully I'm wrong.

So I finally resubscribed to Hulu (awesome early Christmas gift from the lady!). What have I missed? Haven't been subscribed since August of 2019 but even then I mostly kept to Handmaid's Tale.

I definitely know I want to catch up on the FX on Hulu exclusives like Devs, Miss America, and possibly A Teacher. Beyond that I've got Animaniacs, which is the reason for the gift, Solar Opposites (maybe), The Great, and Portrait of a Lady on Fire (which I can't believe I've put off for so long). Any other recent exclusive movies on the service?

metsallica On Hulu, The Great is absolutely brilliant. Best new show of the year imo. Looking at my own watch list, some other stuff on Hulu I haven't seen yet: Normal People, This Way Up, Das Boot, Harlots. Hulu has a decent selection of recent B-tier sci-fi movies too. A new movie addition afaik is Run with Sarah Paulson.
