Do they not realise they are racists? I can't work out if they are too dumb to realise that treating someone different because they are brown makes them racist, or if they realise it but want to make the stupid fucks following them feel victimised because they are a bunch of moronic assholes.

Pretty much.

I've had a guy use the n-word with a hard r, and when I said that was racist to use he said it wasn't because it's not all black people and even white people can be called that.

I've had a white guy claim he was not allowed to get certain food in a hospital because the woman who took his order on the phone was black and hated white people.

They make excuses to not qualify the racist crap they think. They don't see it as racism if there's "good" POC that don't qualify.

I disagree somewhat to this. I'm sure they are non racist people that support Trump for other reasons. They can't all be racist.

It's kind of like being against child sweat shops but still buying a pair of Nikes every year.
Nah. You support a racist? You are a racist.

And your sweat shop example would make sense if Nike constantly advertised itself as being reliant on sweat shops. But they don't.

Meanwhile Trump constantly advertised that he is a racist openly and often. And yet racists still support him.

To this day, we even have Roseanne Barr insisting she's not racist after being exceptionally racist and apologizing for being racist and then walking back that apology for being racist.

All that needs to be said is that Republican primary voters had many, many choices other than Trump in 2016.

But who do they choose? They chose the loud and proud bigot who began his political career with a racially motivated smear of President Obama; and later opened his campaign saying Mexican immigrants were rapists and drug dealers.

The beating heart of the Republican party is white supremacy. If you don't understand that by now you're either mentally deficient or you're lying to yourself.

They could be yelling bigoted words at them, while burning crosses in their front yard, also while kicking them onto the ground, and they would still claim it wasn't racist.

"We're tired of being called racists!"
*ten seconds later...*
"Look, but she is gonna get—you know, I don't want her stinkin' Muslim crap in my country," Roseanna said.

"Sharia law," Amy chimed in. Her iridescent CoverGirl highlighter glinted under the stadium lights. "Sharia law."

"That's not America," Roseanna said. "She is a Muslim through and through …She wants that all here." She wondered aloud whether Omar had come to the U.S. illegally. (There is no evidence this is true.)

The lack of self-awareness is staggering.

They support a racist President who is passing racist policies. That's not anti-racism, it's supporting racism. Done.

don't back down from this shit

never back down from this shit

if they support Trump, they support racism

if they support Trump, they are racists

Doesnt this just lead to people becoming comfortable with being called racist? It's not like it changes anyone's mind.

I've felt for some time that we're wearing out the word and it's losing its potency. There's just no in between. There's no "ethnocentric" or even "racially insensitive",

It's almost like they are too dumb to be mad at. You have to be one underdeveloped individual to lack critical thinking and self-reflection to this degree.

It's typically I didn't call a black man a nigger so I couldn't possibly be racist. The simplest, most basic form of racism. Ignoring everything else.
Basically this is what racism has come to mean to a majority of white Americans in the 21st century: the smallest act to warrant labeling someone a racist is the above, and anything more has to be on the order of advocating for literal Jim Crow segregation, literal slavery, literal lynching, literal KKK. Nothing that's "similar to" or "resembles", no, the literal things themselves.

You see this in how people react to racist statements made. When someone is guilty of calling someone the above, the backtrack isn't defending the slur or statement as not-racist. Instead, people say "that's not who I am", "heat of moment", "a mistake", or "that's not what I said." This reaction is an admission that calling someone the above is an inarguable racist act.

For anything short of this slur, for example the border situation or calling migrants an "invasion" or "black inner cities are dangerous infested war zones", the argument is that it's not racist. It's a wildly different reaction because there's no admission of racism in the first place.

For a majority of white Americans, nothing short of this will mean the President has done anything racist. Even if he used the slur, there would be a rush to defend, but it wouldn't be to defend the act, but to the President as having made a mistake.

This is like being a fan of the Chicago Bulls, but then getting mad when people suggest you're a fan of basketball.

Like:

a)Then why are you a fan because what else attracts you to the Bulls other than the basketball part?

and

b) Just because you say you aren't a basketball fan while sitting court side at every game, it doesn't matter if you say so. You're still a basketball fan.

Either disown Trump, or be a racist bigot. Because why else are you supporting the man? Because The Apprentice was a good show?

Hah. Judging by this article they're sure not there yet.

Happily, "racist" will always have a negative connotation. It makes racists upset, so I'd say it's working as intended.

it must really suck to be called a racist.

i mean, it sucks for me being a black male living in America, but, like, that pales in comparison to being called racist. so i've been told. by racists. -_-

I'm pretty tired of conservatives trying to play the victim because they aren't given carte blanche to shit on whatever demographic they choose. It's tragic that the existence of other people is such an impediment to their ability to blunder through life without thought or accountability.

They don't like their notion of "white privilege/supremacy" to be called out for what it is as racism.

They see it as normal and don't want it to be a negative thing, hence the pushback.

That's why they created "SJW" so they can call progressivism something bad in return.

My parents were trying to goad me into arguing with them over Donald Trump (and his racist) not being racist over the weekend but I kept my mouth shut and didn't take the bait.

Edit: Oh god, I wish I could remember the actual words. My mom said something along the lines of "I just wish I could live amongst other people like me." in her head I'm sure she was picturing chaste Christian individuals, but from the outside that's just a bad look.

If you support trump, who is racist, then that makes you at the very least a supporter of racism. Which means you are racist

You can't even say you are one on this very website without getting banned it seems.

I wonder if verb tense may get you a little leniency.

I am definitely not a Trump supporter though. And I'm not sure how you can divorce yourself from his rhetoric while saying you aren't a racist. White supremacy is so baked into society that for so long it was just taken as a given in many cases. Now that it is being called out, people cannot handle it and don't perceive themselves as racist.

"A man is still fairly sober so long as he knows he's drunk" - C.S. Lewis

Racist republicans have long passed the point where they can acknowledge the hatred in their philosophy; they're so drunk on the tribalistic in-group mentality that they no longer realize what they're really a part of. What a normal person here in the States or elsewhere sees for its obvious racism, they see as a crusade against anything but race. They're told what they *really* oppose is 'sharia law' or 'godlessness' or 'lack of family values' or 'socialism', not ever being able to see that the underlying cause of all their supposed righteous indignation is just a fear and hatred of people who look/speak/dress/act differently than they do.

I've seen this happen firsthand with my father, as 25 years of Fox News has slowly, but surely, radicalized him into a person whose values are not at all what that same man taught me as a child. Constant barrages of stories about how he should fear immigrants who want to turn the US into an Islamic State, about how "Mexicans" all want to come here and live on his tax dollars, how gay people want to turn the country into one big orgy of sodomy, how the "Muslim from Kenya" wants to take away his guns and set up a dictatorship etc. etc. all day, every day. And they're careful enough to never explicitly state that it has anything to do with race, so these people buy into it, and eventually stop using any critical thought whatsoever, and now they're confused as to how they could possibly be racist when they "never" mention skin color, as if that were ever the definition of racism, anyway.

Fox News, Breitbart, WSJ, it's all just propaganda fed to people as patriotism and they become so hooked by how good it feels to feed their baser instincts that they don't realize they're really just drunk on fear and rage, fueled by racism.
