President Donald Trump on Friday night tried to cast the global outbreak of the coronavirus as a liberal conspiracy intended to undermine his first term, lumping it alongside impeachment and the Mueller investigation.

He blamed the press for acting hysterically about the virus, which has now spread to China, Japan, South Korea, Iran, Italy and the U.S, and he downplayed its dangers, saying against expert opinion it was on par with the flu.

"The Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus. They're politicizing it," he said. "They don't have any clue. They can't even count their votes in Iowa. No, they can't. They can't count their votes. One of my people came up to me and said, 'Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia.' That did not work out too well. They could not do it. They tried the impeachment hoax."

Then Trump called the coronavirus "their new hoax."

After Trump had downplayed the risks of coronavirus, he reassured supporters that the White House was "magnificently organized" in fighting it. In fact, Trump's administration spent the week jockeying among themselves to lead the response, while the stock market tumbled with losses not seen since the global financial crisis in 2008. White House officials and the president grew so concerned this week that Trump put Vice President Mike Pence in charge of the response effort, swapping out his beleaguered health secretary.

None of that came up on Friday night, as Trump trash-talked his Democratic opponents in 2020 and characterized the coronavirus as the latest issue touching on border security.

"Whether it is the virus that we're talking about or many other public health threats, the Democrat policy of open borders is a direct threat to the health and well-being of all Americans. Now, you see it with the coronavirus. You see it. You see it with the coronavirus. You see that. When you have this virus or any other virus or any other problem coming in, it's not the only thing that comes in through the border and we are setting records now at the border," Trump said.

After facts have already lost all meaning, he's hard at work to make words lose all meaning as well.

What a lunatic.

Bet he has hand sanitizer on hand every second of the day and the WH is deep cleaned more often now, probably quarantined areas to make him feel safe.

Trump and his cronies belong in a fucking gulag. Every one of his sycophants in the senate deserve to be severely punished. They are letting this monster of a human being wreak havoc on our country.

Love how he immediately also politicized the virus
It's what Republicans do- they politicize science. They did it with evolution. They did it with climate change. And we're watching it happen in real time with Trump and the coronavirus, and a lot of his shithead supporters are eating it up.

I really don't get what he's thinking with how this is being handled. You would think he'd handle this all competently since you know it's right before the elections and he could easily get support if he just showed some level of competence. Instead he's burying his head in the sand yelling at the democrats while pence prays or some shit. It'll be interesting when we are a month from now and it's in every state.

like this is beyond incompetence. They're just stupid. Absolute idiots

I live in a giant bucket.
Guys, don't you get it? He's talking about the media/Dem *spin* on the Coronavirus, which is, uh, accurately reporting on the infection/death toll and pointing out how Trump gutted the health agencies necessary for combatting a pandemic such as this.

What you have to remember is that he literally only cares about himself and making himself more money. Acknowledging the severity of the virus would cause further stock market drops in his mind, which costs him money and hurts the one thing he can brag about in campaign ads (the stock market being high).

This is enormously dangerous, and if there's a public health crisis because of it he and his enablers will have (even more) blood on their hands. Horrifying incompetence and cynicism.

There will be supporters of his who contract the virus, refuse to believe it's dangerous or more than the regular flu, and will spread it to countless others before probably dying. Yes, he will literally kill some of his own supporters with this rhetoric.

He thinks an epidemic in the US during his term will make him look bad in the media. That's literally all he cares about. So he will refuse to acknowledge any epidemic no matter what. Even if there are hundreds or even thousands of cases and dozens of deaths, he will claim everything is fine and there's no problems.

Not America
Him and his base can fuck off and get lathered in that hoax.

America is a nation where part of the population revels in anti-vaxx movement, not to mention, cunt Trump supports anti-vaccination as political piece to maneuver. Between the fervor for Trump, the desperate clutching at conspiracy theories, the rise in anti-vax movement and the lack of Medicare for All, it wouldn't surprise me that if the virus were to take hold, it would do some serious damage to the conservatives.

I think he thinks he has to try and hide the severity of this based on who he could be running against later this year. And it won't even work. Until then we all suffer. Disgusting.

Trump's approval rating cratered a day after his speech about the Corona Virus. Just wait until shit gets bad and he's still peddling lies.

Ok there's fact and fiction in this.
1) it is definitely being over-exaggerated by the media but definitely not a hoax.
2)mortality rates are in line with and actually below the flu, so it isn't exactly incredible dangerous. Most hosts don't even show symptoms.
3) what is dangerous is that it is incredibly contagious and airborne and can survive for seemly extended times outside the body.
4)also a lot about it is unknown and could mutate quickly as it travels between hosts and could turn into a much more deadly strain at any time.
5) even if it's mortality rates remain low, it's so highly contagious that vulnerable populations like those already sick and elderly are at very high risk.

obviously this has nothing to do with politics and its just plain stupid but the media cycles with misinformation such as comparing it to HIV aren't helping at all.
