Can not wait for this game. If the Geforce leak was right, Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Orge coming out as well means we are eating extremely well.

If it means we get more tactics games I'll deal with it.

I feel like this game is in a weird spot where it's sort of explicitly styling itself narratively as inspired by tactics ogre and Idk if that will invite praise if it doesn't live up to TO's extremely strong worldbuilding, narrative and characters.

That said, if it's even half as good, that's good enough tbh.

My gut says there's enough of a thirst for a "Tactics Ogre of the 2020s," not to mention overall goodwill toward the HD-2D style, that if - as you say - it's half as good, discourse will be fairly positive at least for a time. The zeitgeist will be there (albeit a relatively slim one because this isn't exactly the biggest genre).

Months down the road, we'll see "LTTP: Triangle Strategy... I'm struggling to stay interested" threads. But that's probably inevitable regardless. :P

That demo completely sold me on the game, especially with the various ways that second battle could play out, especially the characters' varying reactions.

I'm definitely in the minority, but I like the title for many of the same reasons I like Octopath Traveler. It's a straightforward, unabashed declaration of the game's core design philosophy.

I totally understand why that would feel lame to most people though. It's uniquely transparent but pretty lacking in personality beyond that. Really comes across as an internal design doc name.

while I think the title will ultimately be lacking no matter what, I would really appreciate if it gets contextualised in the game somehow, like it's some famed in-universe battle tactic or diplomacy

You should try the other route's second battle if you haven't! Both are really good, and the story divergences are really consequential. Totally different tones to the two demo routes.

Which makes it all the more crazy that each route has another route split in the very next chapter, according to JP TGS previews. The amount of branching is going to make for some really special discourse when the game's out, I feel like. Even if the narrative isn't quite on a level with something from Matsuno.

I'll probably try that out soon—I only retried that battle until I could do it without using the countermeasures. I might do the different route in the final game.

Hyped for everything except that name.

It worked for Octopath but it's way too simple and basic a name here, it's on the level of Jump Man.

Seronoa still makes me LOL as a name. It reminds me of the word serenade. There's a few other names that are odd but not mostly...feasible such as Huhette. At least Geela sounds like a POC name. If only Matsuno would have been hired to consult on the story but c'est le vie. It'll be solid regardless and will sell well.

I'm glad they kept the rest of the VAs since they sounded solid (although a few lines made me cringe 😬 ). Particularly, the voice of Benedict.

I was hoping Yasunori Nishiki would return to do the music. But it didn't sound like his style. A look at Akira Senju's Wikipedia page reveals he's an anime composer who's brother is a very famous Nihonga style painter with a museum of his art works: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akira_Senju

Maybe it's some reverse psychology thing where they're trying to get us to be more accepting of terrible names

First Octopath Traveler, then Triangle Strategy, then the world...

Nah, Octopath Traveler is a good name.

Triangle Strategy on the other hand.....

I'm not sure if you listened to the full demo OST but I personally really quite liked it. Definitely different, but it gave me big Fullmetal Alchemist vibes, which I guess is to be expected.

I absolutely love what I've seen, that was a killer trailer, and this'll be a day 1 purchase.

I own all the systems and I say this selfishly: I wish this game was also released on the Series S/X, PS5, and the PC and that it would garner all the sales it possibly could. I want to see more tactical RPGs in the same vein, a new Tactics Ogre, Ogre Battle, Final Fantasy Tactics 2 etc. etc. etc.

Looks great. I am a fan of HD-2D. Now I just have to decide if I want to play it on my Switch or wait to see if a PC version materializes a year or so later like Octopath.

The name is somehow worse AND better than Octopath Traveler. I cannot wait for this game, I can already feel 100 hours slipping away into this game.

I didn't outside of the demo (I never finished it to be fair). And it turns out that composer did the music for FMA: Brotherhood. I thought it sounded somewhat familiar. I enjoyed it so I'm not complaining!

Also, I just learned Yasunori Nishiki is only 36! The guy has a bright future composing game and anime music. I didn't know he composed music for FF VII Remake.
