I feel like this game is in a weird spot where it's sort of explicitly styling itself narratively as inspired by tactics ogre and Idk if that will invite praise if it doesn't live up to TO's extremely strong worldbuilding, narrative and characters.
That said, if it's even half as good, that's good enough tbh.
Can not wait for this game. If the Geforce leak was right, Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Orge coming out as well means we are eating extremely well.
Also forgot Voice of the Cards is this week. What a time to be alive.
I'm definitely in the minority, but I like the title for many of the same reasons I like Octopath Traveler. It's a straightforward, unabashed declaration of the game's core design philosophy.
I totally understand why that would feel lame to most people though. It's uniquely transparent but pretty lacking in personality beyond that. Really comes across as an internal design doc name.
That demo completely sold me on the game, especially with the various ways that second battle could play out, especially the characters' varying reactions.
You mean Unreal Engine 4? :P That's the engine.
HD-2D is just the style they've conceived within the engine.
I'll probably try that out soon—I only retried that battle until I could do it without using the countermeasures. I might do the different route in the final game. You should try the other route's second battle if you haven't! Both are really good, and the story divergences are really consequential. Totally different tones to the two demo routes.
Which makes it all the more crazy that each route has another route split in the very next chapter, according to JP TGS previews. The amount of branching is going to make for some really special discourse when the game's out, I feel like. Even if the narrative isn't quite on a level with something from Matsuno.
Maybe it's some reverse psychology thing where they're trying to get us to be more accepting of terrible names
First Octopath Traveler, then Triangle Strategy, then the world...
Seronoa still makes me LOL as a name. It reminds me of the word serenade. There's a few other names that are odd but not mostly...feasible such as Huhette. At least Geela sounds like a POC name. If only Matsuno would have been hired to consult on the story but c'est le vie. It'll be solid regardless and will sell well.
I'm glad they kept the rest of the VAs since they sounded solid (although a few lines made me cringe 😬 ). Particularly, the voice of Benedict.
I was hoping Yasunori Nishiki would return to do the music. But it didn't sound like his style. A look at Akira Senju's Wikipedia page reveals he's an anime composer who's brother is a very famous Nihonga style painter with a museum of his art works: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akira_Senju
I didn't outside of the demo (I never finished it to be fair). And it turns out that composer did the music for FMA: Brotherhood. I thought it sounded somewhat familiar. I enjoyed it so I'm not complaining!I'm not sure if you listened to the full demo OST but I personally really quite liked it. Definitely different, but it gave me big Fullmetal Alchemist vibes, which I guess is to be expected.
