My fiancé went on a rant about The Dresden files during our first date - started reading the books to add more to talk about on our next date. I remember thinking by the end of book 4 "if this doesn't work out, at least she'll have introduced me to this". Assuming Corona doesn't ruin it, it'll be fun that the next to book releases sandwich our wedding.

edit: lol at how cheesy the video is. Those wigs. 👌🏻

Hyped. Finally caught up on the series. Love this big whole world of characters in Dresden's orbit. Didn't expect another book to be announced in tow.

Last book I remember was either the necromancer's or the vampire porn studio.

Vampire porn studio was the book before the necromancers (and the ZOMBIE T-REX), so you've got a few to catch up on.
Been a while since i serious into urban fantasy. I think the Iron Druid was the last series i was really into. But that went from Urban to straight fantasy fairly quick

It's been so long since the last one that I've forgotten so much. Given just how many books there are, I'll probably jump into the new ones without trying to catch up.

The last couple added a lot of lore that'll probably be important. I bet the stuff post Changes will all be important and everything prior is mostly Goosebumps fluff.

Nah, I'm thinking that at bare minimum, Death Rites, Proven Guilty, White Night, and Small Favor will be important here.

And at some point Cowl's gonna matter again. Last time we saw him was in WN, maybe.

That's a fair list given the content alluded to in the teaser. But I think Battleground will shake it up towards pushing the larger narrative that the series seem to be heading towards.

One month to go! I think I'm gonna try to cram in a series reread by then.

Unexpected, but I'll take it.
Will have to read some good synopsis on the last couple of books, I don't have the time to reread 15 books.

Think I fell off somewhere around the 10th - 12th book when

Harry dies and Molly turns into the Winter Court princess thing, delving into Hades' realm

I get after so many books you gotta do stuff to keep it fresh but it just seemed OTT. Still, maybe I should give the new ones a go

That was 12-14, actually.

Harry dies in book 12, Changes, on the very last page, is a ghost through 13, and Molly doesn't become the Winter Lady until 14, Cold Days.

We have a Dresden Files thread? NICE. It's my all-time favorite book series, and I'm really excited about Peace Talks and Battle Ground. I've been debating taking a day off work to just sit and read Peace Talks, but I don't my kids will let me even if I did.

The book trailer really makes me want someone to do another attempt at a tv show.

So with Skin Game also read ages ago I guess I'm all caught up. 15 books is crazy, this must be the longest series I'm invested in.

I have a feeling Eb is gonna bite it during this or Battle Ground for sure, wonder who the backstabber will be though, I don't think it's gonna be like Murphy or Thomas, so prolly someone like Carlos also if Thomas dies we're canceling Jim. Butter can die.

The most recent update says it is called "The Olympian Affair" and he will start writing it soon
He already has and plans to finish it by the end of summer.

oh wow was vaguely aware that peace talks was finally coming out at some point this year but didn't think the next one would be that quick

nice to see, been a bit of a bummer not having any new ones these past 6 years after them being so consistent for so long

this series not only got me hooked on itself but urban fantasy as a broader genre as well

I would say that killing off Ebenezer right before the council apparently gets tossed back into open warfare feels very DF, so I'd bet on him dying at the end of Peace Talks . Thomas I hope is safe but it would be a real kick to the balls to Harry for Thomas to die right as we find out he's got a kid on the way so I'm not expecting him to make it either 😭

As for who kills Ebenezer, no clue. Maybe Cristo.

And cool news about the Aeronaut's Windlass sequel, I liked the first one.

Just a heads up, Peace Talks if fairy short for a DF book, 352 pages. Obviously a big reason of why Battle Ground is so soon after seeing how it was split and added stuff for it was written.

I would not call it super problematic, but a lot of the earlier books had pretty sleazy levels of male gaze. Butcher got a lot better over time and we mostly focus on the original explanation and current-ish state of "Harry is kind of a pig but he means well" but I know a few people who outright bounced off the first book or three because of that.

Harry was looking at his friends teenage daughter going on about 'she got tits like her mother', fucking creepo

Oh cool. It looks like it is the same date for the Audiobook. Not that strange because how popular they are. I prefer them. James Marsters does a damn good job.

Shiiit, I'd forgotten about that.

Most of the male gaze stuff is sort of... not excusable, but explainable by Harry himself being a horndog, but the stuff with Molly has not aged well, yeah.

I had been going through the whole series to hopefully catch up in time with Peace Talks but stalled out a bit after Proven Guilty. New goal: Battle Ground.

About halfway through Skin Game so I need to get cracking I guess.

Definitely not. The broad plan for the series is to release another 4-5 "case files" novels before wrapping everything up with an epic trilogy. Butcher has been planning on releasing the series like this - 20 or so stand alone novels leading up to a trilogy - since before the first book was published, so I'm excited to see where it all ends up...in another decade or so.

Nice! Sounds good! And by case file novels, you mean the ones that have the short stories collected from other random anthologies right? I gave up on those and the comic series a while back. Just felt like I was getting the placement and timeline confused and reading some stuff, I'd already read.

Ah, no, sorry to have created confusion. The plan has been for there to be 20ish stand alone novels and then the big trilogy finale. That isn't counting the short story collections or the graphic novels. Peace Talks will be Book 16 of the series; you can see the official breakdown and confirmation of this plan here.

Just finished and man, it is so good to have Dresden back. I love this series.

One quick side note, if you haven't read the short story anthology Brief Cases, you should, because a LOT of stuff from those stories play into this book. Not anything that's going to make it impossible to understand, but there are a bunch of characters and references who originate from there.

Just finished. I would've been done by like 5AM but I tried to drag out the last 10 or so chapters. It's so good to have these back. Nothing else quite like 'em.

This was much more of a reunion book than I was expecting, but it makes sense, really. Would agree that people should read the short stories - a lot of them take up a lot of pagespace.

Soliciting OT subtitles now btw, if anybody has any ideas.
