I honestly don't know if it was always available. When the DLC first came out I still had my save from completing the base game so I just played off of that. But when I bought the Complete edition on a sale on Xbox Live just to see how it ran on the Xbox One X the option was definitely there. I just jumped right into the Blood and Wine content.

Maybe it's something that was added in the complete/GOTY edition then.

Either way, yeah that sort of thing would definitely solve the problem I had back when the DLC originally came out.

I genuinely don't see the market overlap and it's a pretty demanding game.

I know I have no interest in a title with softcore pornography.

Well yeah, that's the point. If they can port Witcher 3, then they have shown that a 30 FPS open world game can run on Switch (although I understand the misinterpretation where you might have thought I said Witcher 3 was also 60fps - I know it isn't, I just wanted to point out that MK11 doesn't have to cut frame rate in half to run on Switch, something that Witcher 3 also will have to do, since running at half of 30fps is not an option).

Sorry, misunderstood you. Despite my shitposting in this thread as a joke, I do think it can be made to run acceptably and look decent, and I sincerely hope that it does! The port, if it is real, seems to be taking forever, which is a good sign.

I'm curious to see how this will look on Switch. Haven't played it, but won't buy it if it requires a sizable download. I still prefer physical carts that can be played without downloading part of the game.
Multiple cart game (either parts or one install cart and one game cart)? Pure speculation here.

Game is massive so im wondering what kind of magic will they have in place for it myself.

Hit a stable 30fps and I'm there. I haven't played the Witcher yet and if it looks good enough I'm definitely interested.

That Geralt-eating-popcorn gif is gonna see new life.

Just keep in mind that every miracle has its price. For NBA2K it was 29 gigs and heavy battery use.

I'm sure it will be compressed heavily. I can see them fitting it on a 32GB card (subsidized by Nintendo) with the DLC being download only.

They've addressed this. They are looking at tech analysis of often the same games running on a mobile chipset vs a $799 GPU part or $499 premium consoles
My first sentence was mentioning the ports, but afterwards, I was talking about Switch exclusives. Their Switch exclusives almost always mention how "fill in the blank" has to be sacrificed to look nice and then they don't mention the advanced lighting, weather systems, PBR, or any other advanced features. It's weird.

I'm more waiting for it to be announced at $60 (all DLC included) and watching people cry and yell "Switch tax!" and about how it goes on sale for dirt cheap on other platforms all the time.

It gets clicks. That, and they never seem to go as technical in their Nintendo games for some reason. With other games they mention the high end effects and such that those games are pulling off, but they always just default to "it looks nice" and overall general statements about Switch games. It's really weird.
I remember back at E3 2016 (IIRC) when they had played the preview demo of Zelda Breath of the Wild and they were like "Yeah, there is some sign of god rays, but there is NO way these are actual volumetric lighting". And of course, BOTW has full volumetric lighting, simulating Mie scattering with various degrees of thickness of mist in the air, itself depending on the game's weather system.
Even the Ark port has seen improvements since launch

And it literally takes a minute to see it hardly looks like what they put in their video.

Only having the base game on the cart sounds like an acceptable compromise. Base game alone is massive already.

Did they mention the volumetric lighting (and shading) in their analysis upon release? I don't remember it. It's like the Smash Ultimate video they did, where they said that it runs on the same engine as Smash Wii U (which was deconfirmed by Sakurai and proven to be false by the use of PBR) and then said that some of the aspects of Smash Wii U were more advanced than those in Smash Ultimate, which is just plain wrong. None of this is to say that they have it out for Nintendo, but they always seem to assume the worst case scenario for their games and then don't mention when those games far exceed their expectations.

Yeah, they did upon the final release. But not enough (IMO) relative to what BOTW does. BOTW has a fully modern rendering path on the Wii U. I think that's very remarkable.

I think they are very time constrained, and there is so much attention they can devote to each specific game. But quality suffers a lot as a result. DF Retro videos are usually a lot better than the regular ones.

I mean, it's hard to imagine, but I'd honestly be fascinated to see the technical break down - I kinda hope it happens just so we get to see what it would be like.

I read the article and it seems like it would need a switch pro with twice GPU, CPU, and bandwidth to not run like crap. It would take more than a Doom miracle

so much crow to serve, damn. it will go out of stock

There's enough smoke here that I'm fairly certain there's a fire. But still don't get ahead of yourself. This is not confirmation.

Now if you'll excuse me I need to finish up Mother 3 and Pokemon Stars on my Switch before this Witcher 3 port comes out.

Good fucking luck. They're gonna have to redesign how this game looks, just setting everything to the lowest of the lows like with Doom and Wolf2 isn't going to cut it. That ultralow footage from Dgitial Foundry looked positively hideous. So much of the TW3 experience is made of how good looking the game is.

What the fuck. This is so bizarre that this all seems to be becoming true. I am so eager to see what this looks like and how it runs. If it's anything approaching acceptable it'll really turn Xenoblade 2 into a technical embarassment.

To be fair those didn't have retail listings leak.

Also by all accounts Mother 3 has been ready to go for a while but NOA is (rightfully) nervous about how its more controversial aspects will be received today.

i'm just saying you claimed it had passed 1 million with VGCharts (a completely unreliable website) as your source, and then when someone said that's not true you asked for a source to prove that it wasn't true. you can't ask for a source to disprove your claim when your claim had no source to begin with.

I didn't really "claim" anything tho, I responded to a question with the only source that attempted to answer it concretely and provided the name of the source so people could take it for what it's worth. I was more interested in the actual discussion than an "eww bad source derail." I guess it's just convenient that we seem to generally agree with the source's claim.

But if VGChartz is a banned site let me know, my bad!

I really don't get how wondering how good or bad something is going to look before I buy it is bad.

But, please, keep whining.

Wondering how *good* OR bad something will be before you buy is perfectly fine.

But you only wondered how bad it will be. I'm not a native speaker regarding English, but i think there's certainly a difference between these two sentences.

E: Corrected some grammar mistarkes ... that first sentence was hard to read...

No, not at all. And I played the game on highest detail.

Why are some ppl so upset about this coming to switch? I don't get it...

why is being concerned for the port's quality "being upset its coming to Switch"?
But why are you concerned? The graphics on a switch port seems like an odd thing to be concerned about.

It would make more sense to be concerned that this port won't sell and cd projekt won't port any other games to switch. But solely concerned about how it looks on switch when the game can be played with better graphics elsewhere? Yeah, I don't get that.

Perhaps they will only announce a handheld-only version and directly state that if you want to play Witcher 3 on the big screen you should buy it for Xbox, PS4 or PC.
