Considering Tim Sweeney's less-than-sterling reputation, I'm surprised many people are choosing to intentionally not read between the lines of what he is saying.

Can you explain what "competition" has to do with Half Life Alyx? Anything at all?
Comparing Gamepass to weekly free games to various storefront features... ok, fair. But why bring up Half-Life as part of the "competition" statement, if not to imply that storefront competition contributed to it?

He's highlighting how the market has shifted due to innovation. He's not taking credit for it. Lower your pitchfork.
Maybe just take the words with there definition, he says competition is good but does not say valve are doing these things directly because of epic games store.

This is the same man who thinks he's responsible for the "multi-store future", because GOG, Origin and a dozen other storefronts only came into being after EGS opened shop.
Exclusives drive adoption. Counter Strike 1.6 and Half-Life 2 are the reason Steam exists in the first place. It's not rocket science.
For everyone saying, "Oh but that's not what he's implying or saying", then what was the whole point of saying the second half of that tweet?? Why can't he just say "Congratulations to Valve for premiering Half-Life: Alyx onto the world, we can wait to play this game!" like any other player or dev even mildly curious about the game would say?

I think the difference he's implying here is that you're getting free games without a subscription fee. It's free to keep, just as a means of getting people on the store.
Without context it would be OK, problem is that Tim takes to parrot him bringing this new "multistore world that brings innovation" every single time some good news from their competition happens, trying to paint himself as the one that brought it. Meanwhile, Valve/GoG just upgrade at the usual rate.

He's making a point about competition. There's currently more competition in the PC gaming market than the past few years. The PC gaming market is offering more value to customers than it has in the past few years.

Half-Life Alyx has everything to do with competition because Valve is trying to push SteamVR against Oculus.
But it's not even about that. Those are two separate statements, he doesn't imply causality and Half-Life Alyx is still added value for the Steam platform as a whole.

I agree. If we look at Tim Sweeney's tweet history, it's painfully obvious what he's implying. This is where context really matters.
I don't know, I think he's more just saying that every store has stuff going for itself, he's not necessarily saying that those things are there because of competition.

Epic has literally turned me more away from pc gaming because i hate not having games in one place so i end up waiting to buy games even longer now which means i end up buying it for the ps4 or xbox.
