I'm not sure what's more mental how carols marriage ended or how she met him
Ive lived in Tampa for 5 years now, and everyone knows what goes down on Nebraska(the place she called herself walking down at 2am or whatever when she met Don) the moment you move here because everyone local is gonna tell you to stay away....Unless you're looking for some late night strange 👀

Antle is crazy because it takes them awhile to get to the cult part, so up to that point he's kind of portrayed as what Joe Exotic could be if he wasn't a crazy person. Like, he's in it consistently at the start coming across as the dude who takes everything seriously and seems a little above it all, and then you get whacked upside the face with SEX CULT.
While the first episode doesn't go into his sex cult stuff, it does have a few lines that makes it sound like he is uh... close to his animals.

Am I the only one who ain't buying Carol as better?
Scroll up.

Man, that scene where Jeff Lowe was with his wife and unborn child saying that he was sticking her in a gym as soon as the baby was out while also making it clear to her and the world that he was looking for a nanny he could fuck was wild.

I swear, each one of these characters could carry their own insane documentaries.

I want to know what the hell is up with his wife. I'm sure she's with him because he seems to just let her do anything she wants + $$$ but the show didn't really get to talk to her at all. It's hard to tell if she's in an abusive relationship or also a crazy evil person.

I'm on episode 3 and far as I'm concerned all these people are pieces of shit. Joe and Doc are breeding for profit. It wouldnt surprise me if both were frequently abusing and euthanizing the animals after they stopped turning a profit.

Carol may be the least likely to be abusing the animals but her set up isnt that great either which could cause the animals stress.

Its some kind of nightmarish reality TV American Idol adaptation where they are looking for the most despicable person you can find and the contestants keep one upping each other.

Carole is a manipulative hypocrite who killed her ex-husband.
Doc Antle grooms teenagers to be sex cult slave labor.
Jeff Lowe is a con-man who dupes his business partners into saying incriminating shit on tape and then takes their shit and sells them to the feds anyway
Joe is maybe the most sympathetic of the bunch thanks to the editing, but he's still a raving narcissistic psychopath who profited off animal abuse and used and abused folks in a position of weakness for his own ends while fantasizing about murdering the competition.

The coke dealer who did 12 years for having a cop chopped up in his house is the only half sensible sounding dude they talked to.

one thing about inheritance law is whatever amount of money is doled out, regardless of whatever terms the deceased left the involved parties in... there's going to be contention. even if there's nothing left to inherit but 5 dollars and a half eaten churro
yeah people saying that because the abandoned family got less than they think they should get, it's a rational assessment and Carole is the bad guy. In reality, they could have gotten a bunch and still are saying that just because they think the newer wife should have gotten nothing

It would have taken you 2 seconds to find that you're wrong. It's a nonprofit and a good one at that.
www.charitynavigator.org

Charity Navigator - Rating for Big Cat Rescue

Big Cat Rescue has earned a 4/4 Star rating on Charity Navigator. This Organization to Prevent Cruelty to Animals is headquartered in Odessa, FL.

I'm not defending her at all. But BCR is a standard animal nonprofit.

My issue isn't its legal status but that it's clearly a gravy train for them. I was with Carole up until she didn't have Joe shut down via her lawsuit. At that point, you realize that if there are no big cats in captivity (theoretically the endgame for Carole), she loses the six figures a year (minimum) she's making from BCR.

I remember a riddle from the show Black Sails. A "proper" businesswoman tests one of the characters before making a deal with them. She points out that the new govt in the town was put in place (and paid handsomely) to deal with some pirates who sail out of an island close to the town's port. She asks "in ten years, where will those pirates be?"

The answer is "right there on that island." The people paid to deal with pirates only get paid as long as there are pirates to deal with.

Carole is (by far) the least bad person on this show, outside of the auxiliary voices who seemed fine (like her volunteers, Reinke, etc...), but she lost the claim to a more moral argument when she had the chance at shutting one of these sites down and balked.

I cannot believe how insane this story is. I just got to the episode that introduced Jeff Lowe. The show just keeps getting crazier and crazier. My two cents:

Doc definitely runs a cult and that is the whole point of what he is doing.
Joe burnt down his own studio.
I am not sold on Carol killing her husband though, but wouldn't be surprised if she did.

Just watched the first two episodes. When Americans meme about Chinese people eating bats and selling exotic animals at markets, Chinese people are going to hit back with clips from this series. Big cats and sex cults. People are fucking weird.

The reason Joe appears sympathetic is because he appears tragic: super rough upbringing and personal tragedies (brother dying, husband dying) set him adrift into this Joe Exotic alter ego seeking acceptance and power.

But at some point, there's no original person anymore. It's all Joe Exotic. And all of the shit he does as Joe Exotic -- the drugs and manipulation and threats and animal abuse and grooming -- is on him. 100%.

It's tragic only insofar as watching what created a monster. None of it excuses what he became or did.

So...is this show secretly about the 2016 election?

I've seen a ton of comparisons between the two main characters and the candidates of that election and I'm like, wait a second...

That was a crazy scene. Like come on this has to be written no way he would deliberately make himself look like scum in the most blatant way possible. Like fuck this dude is hands down the most evil

It's genuinely wild that the guy who was sentenced to 100 years imprison for murder and drug smuggling is the most normal person on the show.

No joke, at least the guy is pretty upfront about everything and his beliefs.

The rest of them are super damn manipulative. As much as Carol talks a big game, everything about her seems just as manipulative as the rest of them. Just people using big cats as a means to gain power, attention and profit.

Jeff is real deal evil. I know someone that has had dealings with him. The rumor is that he isn't just involved in the illicit trade of animals, but actual people as well. Regulatory agencies visit him with armed escorts for a reason.

Just finished, holy shit, there are just no words for the ridiculousness. Any one episode could have been expanded on into an entire miniseries; from the cult like nature, to the Carols husband disappearance, to the actual trial, a focus on the animal trafficking (who are all these zoos that bought them?), to Travis' end, etc, etc.

The only thing they didn't touch on enough, is the state of mind these people were in with all the drugs. I feel like they spent 15 minutes on it and never went back.

What exactly are the parallels? I could see just about any of the characters being Trump since they're all moronic, narcissistic "businessmen" who clearly know jack shit about business but have nevertheless achieved what they personally view as success.

And I guess Carol is Clinton since she's a woman who seems shady? Although Carol seems legit shady, not exactly a Benghazi or emails situation there, so not the best allegory.

That surveillance video of when Travis kills himself looks so fake. Did they recreate it or was that real? The way the guy just sits there with his hands on his face looked like bad acting to me.

Someone may have posted this already but apparently now there is another ex lover of Baskin coming forward with information.

www.google.com

Ex-boyfriend of Tiger King’s Carole Baskin claims she told him ‘dead bodies can’t talk’ before Netflix show

TIGER King is the new Netflix documentary that’s got everyone talking, and now more details have emerged regarding Carole Baskin’s missing husband. The seven-part series touches on the …

this guy also ended up with a restraining order against Carol before they parted ways.

I stand by my assumption that no body outside of some of the staff are good people. It will definitely be fascinating to see if any legal ramifications come about because of this documentary.

This show combined with the Over My Dead Body podcast creates a fuller picture of everything going on, and it was wild to see the crazy people I only heard about

More like confused. He said so himself getting shot in the head isn't the same as in the movies. Travis body must be moving abit during that.

He was probably in shock. He said he didn't think the gun was loaded or it was blanks (not that you couldn't kill yourself with blanks).

If you look at the timer on the footage, you can see that they pause on his reaction. He doesn't actually stay frozen like that for as long as they make it appear.

He shot himself in the head. What else what that guy going to do but just sit there and process it? If Travis was screaming and needed help I'd agree, but it sounded like he shot himself through the head, he was probably dead before he hit the floor. There's not really a need to call an ambulance or administer first-aid or whatever.

Yeah he said that Travis would mess around all the time pretending to shoot others/himself saying that the gun can't fire for a certain reason. He thought he was messing around that morning too.

Watched this in one sitting working form home today, that was some ride.

Also as someone who understood every word spoken in this series I was curious about the choices netflix made to subtitle certain people.
