They put out their apology and hopefully won't do what they did again. That's enough for most people and their games are looking great and diverse

At least the first 2 pages of replies will be almost exclusively filled with comments talking about how they anticipate what other replies will be. Mine being an meta example of this.

I mean, look at all the people in this thread who's first instinct was to grab popcorn for the lulz instead of give a damn. Everything wrong with the world right now.

Quite possible those people know exactly that no discussion will actually come of this thread, just driveby shitposts of "THQ = Nazis", no further substance.

Its possible some people voted for them because they held an 8chan AMA, but I'm pretty sure the majority of those votes came from them possibly having the most interesting games on show. However, that kind of discussion won't be had here, just lots of "UGH, can't believe people vote for paedophiles!".

It's perfectly fine to condemn and boycott them, but their importance for European and especially German games development can't be overstated. They also have a lot of output with many nostalgic crowd pleasers, so the vote is somewhat understandable.

THQ releases some fantastic games, I don't find this surprising at all. Desperados III looks ridiculous.

Shows that the main public does not care (and probably doesn't even know) about the 8chan stuff. Sigh.
It's not that anyone doesn't care but it barely moved the needle at all in terms of impact. The THQ AMA didn't provably radicalize anybody that hadn't heard of the site before, and 8chan would go on to gain actual notoriety from the mainstream because of the shootings and receive enough backlash to get shutdown. The THQ stuff is barely a footnote in all of that. Hell it wasn't even brought up when politicians were going around blaming video games so that just goes to show how little it actually mattered in the grand scheme of things.

I think it's for the best if we run on a "fool me once, shame on you" model. If they do it again, expect a far larger backlash with more consequences.

They do, but this site is not seen very positively by other places, and they associate that outrage with this forum.
I can't think of any place that views this site positively now that I think about it lol.

Anyways theirs nothing to be said really, they were up for the award and won based on what they showed. Fair.

Did they? Wasn't it something to the effect of "We did not know" which was a blatant barefaced lie and "Sorry if you were offended"?

Feel free to rectify me if I am in error. Thanks.

No they legitimately apologized, condemned the controversial content on 8chan...the whole 9 yards.

I think what a lot of people here are hoping for is some firings in all honesty.

I think there has to be a sense of perspective in all of this. They reached out to a hive of white nationalists on an unlisted site renowned for hosting child porn and those planning or executing mass murdering hate crimes. Their PR person showed knowledge of what the site stood for and seized the opportunity dismiss representation or race concerns for having a place in video games, they didn't fire this person and gave only a meek, token apology while never addressing it again.

I don't think "but they make fun games" is a good enough qualifier for any of this.

Don't forget about all the things you're supporting when you consider any THQ Nordic games.

Here's a helpful summary post of all the events for the uninitiated.

Mod statement: "To address a few recurring points: We will not be banning games published by THQ Nordic and subsidiaries like Deep Silver. You are instead welcome to continue raising the issue in threads relevant to the publisher and its games."

If you use Steam and want to ignore all games that THQ Nordic publishes, go to their publisher page while you're logged in, then click on the little gear icon below where it says "Beta" and choose "Ignore this creator."
_______________________________________________________________

These games are being published by THQ Nordic. For those who may not be aware or who may have forgotten, THQ Nordic had a marketing effort where it intended to gain attention using a website that is known primarily for its support of child pornography, as well as for support of Neo-Nazism, doxxing, and other extremely damaging behaviors.

THQ Nordic's provided no response to this fiasco except for an apology claiming they did not do enough research. As the website is unlisted by Google, they had spoken to the board owner about removing "nasty stuff", and content was viewable both before and during the campaign, this claim is beyond belief. The individuals responsible are known not to be rogue PR interns, but go up to THQ Nordic's board. THQ Nordic has not dealt with the individuals responsible, and they released an embarrassingly bad "apology" that addressed nothing.

Consider that by supporting their games, you are supporting a publisher that is complicit with child pornography.

Either I interpet the word complicit wrong, but doesn't that imply they take part in the actual actions?

This thread would be very different if the Epic Games Store won best X at some convention

Just imagine the toothless rage and death threats.
That's because Epic committed the ultimate cardinal sin, PC exclusives. All THQ did was consort with a community known for bigotry, pedophilia and hate crimes (also mass shootings afterwards).

It does. Maybe the poster believes they had to have known about the CP problems on 8chan and still chose to hold an AMA there? Still doesn't make them complicit though, but maybe I'm missing something.

Sends a great message that it's okay for publishers to pal up to Nazis, terrorists, racists and pedos and there'll be zero repercussions for doing so.

As long as they're not doing microtransactions or Epic store exclusives though, amirite?
