That's disheartening.
At this point, the notion of it being an "honest mistake" no longer holds water for people trying to downplay this.
I could see this being the case if the YTers had a history of such behavior. There are certainly creators that aren't allowed a platform here. Colin Moriarty comes to mind.
Guess that's the reason why most outlets covering this story are only mentioning 8chan's association with child porn in the headline.
Which is pretty annoying as the counter narrative is pulling on that CP was a thing of the past for the site and it's all just outrage culture right now.
And apparently limply claiming "sorry, I didn't research the site" is a good enough apology. Which is a special kind of bullshit when you consider the kind of language the Phillip guy was using in discussions with people on that site, implying he knew full well what kind of shithole it was and the people who frequent it.
It might have been changed since you posted, but I feel "I do not condone child pornography, white supremacy, or racism" is a pretty damning quote in itself.

Pretty much this. I could have accepted that this was down to incompetence if the representative didn't very clearly interact with the 8channers in the way that he did during the AMA. But the reciepts, or in this case, screengrabs are there for the world to see.
Okay, now that they've done less than the bare minimum we can start demanding the absolute bare minimum standards of human decency from them.

I think having to do that kind of "backpedalling" is damning in itself.
They also enlarged it and it's clearly a quote, nobody would think that this was something you would say if you had done nothing wrong and was just apologising.
To me it seems fitting. It directly links the company to child porn in the headline.
Many executives in corporations are very clueless about social media.
Looks like someone or some people are losing their jobs.
They basically operate in the dark web. Unless the FBI or another governamental entity shut it down, they can still be there. And, by the info of all the people siding with 8ch, apparently they do not allow CP on their boards. People can post it but they quickly remove it and, alledegly, they even cooperate with the FBI forwarding IP's. So keeping their home CP free apparently makes them still being around, althought they reputation is already forever tainted.
I was wondering about the fact that the owner moved to the Philippines a few years ago and whether local laws make it more difficult to prosecute him or have his site shut down.

Like 20 or so minutes after they announced the AMA, i decide to contact Lars Wingefors (He have his contact mail public at his site). And after a while he replied, which i atleast found nice of him to do, he said they had commented on it on twitter.
However, i also replied to him stateing that the AMA link is still up on their twitter, so their "sorry" did not mean anything. Also linked to some of the examples of what was going on, and links to the thread here.
I thought it was nice of him to reply, BUT i really hope he steps in, and will do something about this. Like for sure remove the AMA link... And also maaay want to look for other PR people. I guess time will tell, what/if any he decides to do.

Just as an aside, 8chan ist most definitely not the "dark web", because then you couldn't just access it with a normal web browser. It's maybe part of the hidden web because Google doesn't list it, but then again, other search engines do. Which only emphasises the question how this website can still be out in the open.
Also, while Kotaku and co are downplaying it, seems like this has been picked up by the popular UK shit tier tabloids, the Sun and the Metro.

I'm not trying to downplay it or side with them, just explaining what they have to say and why they, allegedly, are still allowed to exist as a site.
Line skirting, domain name changes, multiple servers, changing hosts, word of mouth.
Lot of attention on 8chan atm, hopefully they feel a bit of heat shortly.
Plausible deniability and skirting legal lines. "Oh we had no idea that was there, very sorry, we'll clean that up..."
That only goes so far, but even if/when the authorities step in another one will pop up sooner or later. These communities have existed since the dawn of the internet - they know how to regroup.

I would like to say that I can think of worse companies to be upset with. like the big banks and textile companies also sugar companies ect. that benefited greatly off of chattel slavery. where babies were used as alligator bait and had heads cut off to be used as balls. we still buy from these companies to this day! so where is the outrage about that? where is the outrage over joe buck killing two black men at his home with no charges because he's a LGBTQ liberal donor and even now is hanging around another possible black soon to be victim?
the point I am trying to make is some are way too quick to judge selectively I might add people or companies so I myself will not be boycotting THQ until people start boycotting the LGBTQ for what joe buck has done to those two black men and how they come and gentrify black and brown neighborhoods then call the police on them for any reason knowing that that could possibly be a death sentence. or boycott katy perry for her blackface shoes I could go on and on.

I hear many on era say it's a shame when mass layoffs happen but if this company folds because of this then another mass layoff will happen, which means people who had nothing to do with what happened will suffer when they are just trying to feed their families.

I believe this is super important. Defenders of the site will keep coming claiming "we do not allow CP", but regardless of that, 8ch is still a platform that allows hate movements to exist and flourish.
