Why isn't someone higher on the totem-pole putting their foot down?

Doing nothing must be worse than trying to ignore it and hoping it'll go away by itself. They must have lawyers and at least some normal pr people with a bit of a brain left.

How hard can it be to make a pr-statement, fire the people responsible, appologise, take a stance against cp and make a somewhat huge donation to a anti-cp charity?
Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if there are a lot of people currently freaking out with no idea what to do.

I doubt there was a standard plan in place for "higher ups in the company deciding to collab with pedophiles".

Whilst the company as a whole can go fuck itself until it's properly sorted this out, with those involved fired and whatever amends needed made, I do feel for the people who now have to deal with this. I can't imagine how their feeling. They just need to do the right thing, and as quick as possible. I hope they do.

The continued tolerance of right wing beliefs in the gaming industry is sickening. Alt-righters should never be allowed to have a platform, ever. Gaming companies REALLY need to do better. This is inexcusable to say the least, incredibly disappointed right now.

Honest question, who's Coffee Stain and who is this @SatisfactoryAF ?
The dev side of Coffee Stain made the fantastic Sanctum games (Sanctum 2 well worth a look). Also probably best known for Goat Simulator. They now do a lot of publishing also. Very happy to see them speak against what's going on.

Why would THQ even advertise to 8ch? They're not buying those games, they only like early access.
OMG

Him being as powerful as he is surely is a huge problem. They can't really fire him on the spot.

Maybe they'll buy him out or at least make sure he isn't working there anymore. The other big stakeholders wouldn't want him around either way.

Suerly some overpaid lawyer is trying to find a way to spin this so they don't have to throw the guy overboard.

What a disaster.

I don't believe for a second someone doesn't even have inkling of what could possibly go on over at 8Chan in the first place. And if you don't, then you'd do your research. But they said at the start that someone would look after all the "nasty stuff" so they were well aware.

For anyone that's reading or wondering, do not ever go near 8Chan. That place is the cesspool of the internet for real.

Absolutely nothing good comes from there.

The CEO said "The PR manager already explained himself on Twitter".
No I think they know they effed up. They went into damage control mode, though obviously taking as little accountability as possible.
Maybe stopped digging, but aren't exactly doing much to climb out of the hole as it starts to fill with water.
I see. Thanks for the info.

Such a shame to see THQ fall once again. So many memories and fun were had only for this shit happen.

Back many years ago, when 8chan first started, I went there as a 4chan user thinking it was just more of the same. Before I knew what it was.

Closed it after 2 minutes and never went back. Proper fucked up website

So this is like, a legitimate thing to wonder, and I highly recommend anyone go watch H.Bombs recent video on the topic, but in this particular case there's no way this pays off.

Stimulating the alt right would be doing stuff like posting about how your game is "outrageous", like how you've got sexualised women and crude humour and no one can stop you, or making fun of "outrage culture" or something of that calibur.

It works because those who speak out against it would be a vocal minority that are basically just advertising your product to everyone who doesn't care enough to not purchase.

But in this case, they've been linked to child porn. That is way too far. They've got the alt right crowd, but at the cost at everything else, and the alt right crowd pales in size comparison to everything else.

This move was probably an attempt to turn controversy into advertising, but they could not have botched it more.

I have my doubts if "regular" people care enough, even if THQ Nordic gets linked to something terrible like child pornography. I believe that this thing will be "washed-out" in few day, at least to the general public, but will stick as something "positive" to the 8chan crowd. I think that they will gain more from this one thing, that they will lose in the end. This whole things feels like an attempt to "screen" the market.

Let's see...

The tweet containing the link to the AMA is still up on Twitter.
They still have the tweet about "sensitive simons' liked.
They already showed that they are full of shit with their "apology" about not knowing what is up with their chosen AMA site given their responses in the AMA itself.
And their CEO Lars is either a spineless coward or seems to be a-ok with them pandering to pedophiles, white supremacists, and some of the dumbest morons in the world.

Yeah, I think I'm alright with not covering anything THQ related on my site again nor playing any of their future releases.

Wow, zero shits given. And they were a small publisher with a real hunger to compete that I really liked. But unless action is taken and at the very least the marketing director guy is fired, I won't be buying any of their games from now on.

They have been catering to Gamergate for a while now and their CEO has no apparent problem with this happening, so FUCK THQ Nordic.

Which means that I will never ever touch a game that THQ Nordic has any sort of involvement in. When the CEO doesn't care, that says a lot about the company.
Of course there won't be a statement before they've had several meetings.
He can't just say "yeah dude fucked up" and that's it. That doesn't mean that the CEO doesn't care, it's just how it works.
Give it time. The PR guy and several others will leave the company, but that will take some time as well as they are not allowed to just fire them.

That's bs. He can say that he takes this very seriously, and condemn pedophilia and Nazism, and will look into it deeper before commenting further. Not just a dismissive comment about how it has been kind of handled already.

So they seriously dont give a shit? Some completely unrelated unfortunate studios under them have to defend themselves while the corporate management does nothing? No comment from their billionaire owner? WTF...are they actually this clueless?

What is a computer and why?

I keep looking at this magic screen and pressing the buttons but it still won't answer. Please summarize for me so I don't have to read through something ridiculous like 3 paragraphs I am a very busy sock puppet

Nobody tell the spider how to use a PC. Once they realise there's a world-wide web, we're screwed.

I just checked google.. he got a 1 to 2 years sentence back in January 2018.. so he could be out.. but his Internet access is restricted.. and has to register his whereabouts for 15 years to the law enforcement..

A friend of mine from school got busted about 3 years ago for having downloaded child pornography. It was a really weird feeling knowing that for a couple of years I considered him one of my best friends. Not really seen much of him since we were about 16, but I still saw his brother around occasionally who was a really good guy, and I felt bad for his family for getting tarred from his actions.

Fuck, really?! Do you have any links? I had no idea they had other controversies prior to this.

Someone tweeted that they've just purchased Darksiders 3 basically to own the libs since we're against free speech and all that.

The levels...

Super busy irl right now, sorry. But if you click through earlier posts in this thread there have been mentions of it. They have been buying openly pro-Gamergate studios at the very least.

Uh, unless employment law in Sweden is much different to the UK, companies can fire members of staff responsible for PR blunders. Considering this guy hosted the AMA and he's the marketing director, I'd say it's reasonable to assume the buck stops with him on this. There should be something in his contract that his employment can be terminated if he fucks up badly enough and reflects poorly on the company. And considering they used a fucking site banned by Google associated with paedophiles and Nazis for their AMA which has affected their stock price I would say this is definitely a severe grievance.

Hopefully within a day or two once the board has met they will announce he has been fired.

Isn't that part of the company based in Austria?
However, yeah it's likely that they can let him go because of that but that will take a bit of time. Sorry, my post was not very clear in that regard. I just wanted to say, that they can't fire him right away. Firing people in Germany/ Austria can be a bit tricky.

This is gonna be an extremely stressful time for their management...

A good way to avoid inadvertently buying one of their games (on PC at least) is to ignore them as a publisher on Steam.

Just go to their publisher page, click the little gear icon and click 'Ignore this creator'.

It doesn't hide all their games from the store completely, but every time one appears Steam will tell you that you've ignored this publisher. By repeating the above process you can undo this, should they ever clean up their act and make amends for this.

I refuse to believe this was intentional... I mean... you just don't do that. Even if his personal beliefs are inline with that site, even if the company itself caters to that audience, they are a mass market company that makes gaming products for a mass market audience (including industry players who would not want to be associated with this kind of thing, ever).

If I was this guy I would be considering how to exit as gracefully as possible, cause that kind of fuckup is beyond repair I think.
