This is a very calculated move. They know it will piss a lot of people off, but that is ok because they are going for the very lucrative market of people without jobs who pirate everything.

Imagine having such a fucked up moral compass and let's be honest, being so maladjusted as a direct result of no identity aside from playing video games and watching anime that the idea that Era is collectively bothered by anything let alone a company associating with a google-blacklisted website that had to change hosts multiple times as a direct result of suspected child pornography is more an affront to your sensibilities than A)the existence of the website in the first place and B)a prominent publisher signal boosting said website
THQ do the right thing and fire everyone involved in this, get a new PR team and make a sizable donation to child protection charities and anti-racism charities. I think that's the only way to truly make amends for this.

OK technically it was created ~10months before gamegate (hardly "way before") but it's significant userbase came about after the 4ch "exodus". 8ch would be a dead board if not for gamergate.
Well you'd be wrong. 8ch was created in October of 2013, gamergate was August 2014.
8ch was created because of the strangle hold 4ch had on boards. 8ch was different to 4ch in that anyone could create a board, that's what attracted people to it. It was really lax moderation wise in general and given the userbase of chans in general then some of that stuff did slip through but 8ch always had a global rule against it. 8ch was tiny before gamergate, that's a fact. It's main userbase is there because of it and it'd have died at the wayside like other alternate chans if not for gamergaye.

The "upper brass" are the people responsible for this at the end of the day. The buck stops with them. If they are allowed to continue on in managerial and executive roles, there is no reason to believe this won't happen again. Everybody from PR on up needs to be terminated immediately, and anyone hired by these people, or by people hired by these people, need to be thoroughly evaluated before being allowed to continue on in any kind of leadership or decision making role.
I corrected my wording in this regards. But it's a lie to say it existed "well before". It was created in October of 2013, gained traction in the tail end of the year/new year and gamergate happened in August 2014, so it was only 8-10months after.

He at least needs to be suspended without pay for like two week. This was so massively incompetent. He hasn't done irreversible damage to the brand—the Internet moves too quick for this stain to last much longer—but it is tremendously embarrassing for the company and all the hardworking devs there who knew better and probably urged him to can this when the idea was first presented.

On one hand I want to agree. On the other hand there are very likely some very low level people probably in that department that were completely flabbergasted as well. Theres no way this was just one rogue person though and their obviously is a culture problem that needs to be addressed with a huge overhaul
Actually, this comes from Reinhard, not Philipp. Meaning, there were TWO GUYS at THQ Nordics Austrian PR Office who thought this was a good idea. And just in case anyone can't decipher the picture.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about 8chan culture (I'm clearly not an expert), but child porn and racism are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in 4chan where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you get screwed by Mark over at 8chan, you bring shame to your whole damn company and the only way to get rid of that shame is "honest" repentance.
What this means is the gaming public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to listen to your backpedaling, nor will they purchase any of THQ Nordic's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but THQ Nordic has alienated an entire market with this move.
