Problem is that what they did is so utterly terrible that we can't sweep it under the rug or just leave it to be cordoned off in a thread where the people who actually need to see it will just ignore it.
I've gotta say, I do think the mod guidelines have worked out well here. The discussion seems solid. Making it clear that people are welcome to talk about the game without being personally attacked, but spelling out that the publisher's past actions are a valid concern seems to have set up useful guardrails.
It makes it pretty easy to "smell" the trolls, when someone just complains about someone reacting to the AMA, or goes out of their way to attack someone for even broaching the topic or discussing the game.

I have mentioned a few times that I think a good solution might be putting a "master post" summary at the foot of every THQN OP. That way every thread guarantees exposure of their shitty AMA and the thread itself can be used for discussion of whatever game it was about
But every person who enters the thread will still be made aware of the AMA.

Used implies that the publishers receives no further money, but still gives you a legal means to play the game.
For someone who wants to take the stance that THQN shouldn't be getting a free pass for the 8chan/CP association scandal, but also can't stop themselves from needing to play the game, buying used is the best possible option.
Otherwise you're still knowingly giving money to a company who finds it acceptable to advertise/promote/signal boost a website that harbors child pornography (when defining acceptable as literally no one at THQN facing any repercussions for doing so).

Because I find the sentiment of "Fuck THQ" rings super hollow when they're so willing to fork over cash to the pub for a 10 year old game, as seen below, rather than sating their desire with a used copy, where THQN gets nothing.

Honestly the best way is probably to get it off a humble thing and set all the money to go to charity if you're going to do it that way. Closest thing to having one's cake and eating it, but I still wasn't touching that just-after-the-8chan-stuff humble THQN bundle with a 10 foot pole personally

That's a really good idea. I'd pay a high price if 100% of my money to a charity and get the opportunity to put a spotlight on what THQN did.
There's nothing wrong with stating I don't necessarily approve of what THQ did yet not also boycotting them.

Oh shit, had no idea what this is about and no interest in this. I love platformers so I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for this. If this is anywhere similar to Mario64 or other old school platformers its a day 1 buy from me
Considering the person who ran the AMA responded to a post asking "do you want any lolis?" With "seems like you have them all" they fucking knew what 8chan was about and continued with it.
I'd take ban the publisher who associated with a website that hosts child porn rather than people pointing out what said publisher did.
The derail only happens because people are crying over it. It's like some people just dont want to accept that some people are bothered by this. These threads are derailed by people annoyed by people talking about the 8chan AMA.
It'll happen again tomorrow and the day after as the two other games get announced. See it as a sort of spring cleaning of the forums. Though it does stifle the discussion of the game announcement so it really should just be banned altogether since no one is getting much discussion out of them anyway.

I personally hated what they did with the 8Chan AMA but I'm not gonna let the work of 1 PR guy prevent me from ever buying their future games.
Or people can just choose which comments they want to respond to. No one is forced to respond to comments they don't like. The full mod post makes clear that no one can be called out by others for choosing which aspect of this they want to discuss. For example, I'm excited to see a Spongebob revival, so from this point on, I'll only be commenting on the actual game.
Mostly why I have no idea how to tackle this honestly.
The 8chan AMA was one of the dumbest things in this industry in years but THQ's output is huge and they have a lot of decent games under their belt.
