This is what the mod policy creates.
It just encourages the "keep politics out of my games/it's not the devs fault/outrage culture" people to chime in and downplay, what I have to remind you, was a video game publisher associating with a website that harbors child pornography. And NOBODY saw any consequences from this.
This is fucked up. What the fuck does anyone at the site stand for if not at the very least this?
Showing empathy to your fellow human being is far more important than any video game.

From what I've seen, the only forum with a thread about this announcement to frequently mention the AMA debacle is ResetEra (and I naturally suppose 8chan too). Other forums don't know or simply don't care.
The sad thing is, this post will attract more attention than that one. Because what do people love more than a noble cause? A good dog pile.
Swap out Spongebob for Animal Crossing, Link's Awakening, or whatever other surprises Nintendo has up your sleeve and you're right. A new (hopefully good) Simpsons title and a proper Banjo-Threeie is my year of dreams for sure, because lord knows the last one did absolutely nothing for me.

You know what. I'm still a believer that mods should've banned all THQN games after that shit but now.... I'm actually more mad mods didn't ban THQN games. Fucking ban any topics about THQN games, people aren't going to be happy? Too fucking bad maybe don't try to stan for a company that endorses child pornography, terrorism and white supermacy.

Seriously, I'm fine with you all talking about and buying THQ games, I can tolerate it and hell, I even said that it's rad that they're remaking this game since I loved the original as a child.
But, hand waving these issues as "harmless" and now insulting victims... What the fuck, just seriously, what the fuck. Like, I want to give you my side of how this effects a victim of abuse and this is.. Come on, seriously. I know it's a minority here, but come on.

For those who are excited or interested in this game, I can testify that Battle of Bikini Bottom was an amazing game, I hope the remake does it justice and you enjoy it. Peace.

We still don't know that. The Internal investigations required before any serious consequences can be faced (i:e fire somebody) can take quite a while.
Dammit, THQ got me. Just this one time...
Nickelodeon signed the licensing deal with THQ before the 8chan fiasco. I'm surprised they didn't cancel the deal afterwards, though.
Like I get the mods aren't going to stop discussion of THQ games in general because of how absolutely fragile some members of the community are to the idea that a company face some repercussions, even as minor as a small time video game forum not allowing discussion. If THQ even seemed like they were in the process of doing something about it I would understand, but it literally is just being swept under the rug.
Their statement at the time very clearly laid out that there was going to be no further investigations. From the CEO:
They did some "investigation", said they would do better next time, and that was it.
Nothing came from it. Nobody lost their job, there was literally no consequence to signal boosting a child pornography site.

We observed enough specific moves/statements made by the THQ staff throughout that whole situation that show this isn't credible. It doesn't even start to pass a smell test. My eyebrows are up at anyone who followed along themselves making this assertion.
I passed on this originally. Chalked it up as a typical licensed game growing up. So I am looking forward to finally giving it a shot, and Simpsons Hit & Run, if that ends up being a thing.
If people are just going to ignore the THQN mess then they can discuss their games on a different forum. They can head on over to /r/Games. I don't know why they would WANT to be on this forum if they are the kind of person that will ignore it.

On the subject of the game, a remaster of a SpongeBob game from the PS2/GameCube era is bizarre, and yet somehow entirely fitting of SpongeBob.

Cool except that's not what they did. If we go by your bad example this is like saying "he everyone we are going this cool place with a criminal organization to ask us!!" Except that's not what they did they signal boosted a website that was literally delisted by Google for hosting child pornography. Honestly I'm incredibly disappointed by people so willing to sweep this under the rug.
Well, I'll try to spread this; but man.. it really stings, because I knew they'd remake/remaster this game and I was excited about the idea, but that was before the whole 8chan thing :\

Reminder: This is about child pornography. This is about a place, that harbors child pornography. A fact that you can literally find out in seconds. A fact that was being mentioned to the PR person before the AMA started. A fact that was both ignored and handwaved by said PR people when they mentioned that someone would "take care of the bad stuff" (paraphrasing).
If a pedophile invites you into his den of child pornography, it does not matter anymore why you were there in the first place. You should never have accepted that request.
'Sweeping under the rug' and 'let by gones be by gones' are not the same thing. I honestly believe that they've learned their lesson even if no layoffs (that we have heard off) has happened since i trust Wingefors (the CEO) words in the matter.

They knew what they were doing, and you would know that if you read the snippits of the AMA. The problem here is the there response to this whole thing was horrible. People wouldn't be nearly as angry with THQ if they purged the people involved and offered a sincere apology, but by not doing that they are basically endorsing the whole thing and shows that this is a company wide problem.
Actually that's true, they where promised by the mods of /v that all the 'bad stuff' would be removed prior to the AMA.
And if that happened, I'm sure some knucklehead will be here telling you that you're overreacting because of whatever reason. Point is, no one really gets to decide what someone's tolerance for this kind of stuff is. You being fine with it now versus later doesn't mean much.
