Thinking of gettiing into the Tetris series. Is the story any good?

There are very few story linked Tetris games, thankfully. You'll have some throwback moments you might not fully understand, but each is its own individual timeline.

OP was joking. However, Puyo Puyo Tetris does have a story mode.
If you're not gonna play through every Tetris game out there (there are a TON of them and some are super rare and hard to find now), then you're better off watching this video that covers everything about the series and just jump into the latest one.
The story is just slightly better than death stranding and just slightly worse than kingdom hearts, so take that as you will op
the tetris effect went to some crazy places. in some ways it is a retelling of the creation of the universe.

I'd watch as many recap videos as you can. You want to go in fresh.

attack is an interesting take, but ultimately wasn't even a tetris game.

Oh I see you haven't got far enough where they introduce the T power up in the story, later it's all about that.
It's pretty convoluted at first, but once all of the different pieces come together, any issues you may have will disappear.
