Just something I thought of watching the Sunday morning talk shows. It is such bullshit that we live in a country where, AT BEST, we get outlets like CNN and MSNBC that are basically centrist. They'll call out Trump sure, but they'll keep pushing the "horse race" mentality with stories focusing on a Democrat saying "motherfucker" and meanwhile, Trump is flirting with martial law to build a stupid wall.

They're actively benefiting a President that is trying to destroy them because $$$. Imagine if there was a "left version" of Fox News. How different would our country be?

A "left version of Fox" would still be bad. It would be less bad, but I really don't need a network that straight up lies to me just because the lies are now things I want to hear.

Lots of good leftist media outlets online though? TV is mostly for the elderly at this point.

Unfortunately filthy rich media moguls own mainstream media so they have a vested interest in retaining the status quo. True left-leaning media will always be small scale, like a youtube channel.

Yeah the left definitely doesn't have media that lies and tells them what they want to hear to Validate preconceived notions and biases.

That's actually a problem. The elderly are the ones that vote. You actually DO need a leftist news outlet outside of the podcast space and Internet. Or at least one that reinforces reality instead of playing up both sides shenanigans for ratings or placating corrupt right-wing leaders directly.

There are aspects of MSNBC and CNN that DO that but only during certain programming blocks and certainly not 24/7.

They're not on TV because most of the "left media" is likely not consuming tv all the time.

And a "Left version of Fox" would be like that Occupy Democrats bullshit

I think the biggest issue with your media in your country is that you've got a propoganda network that's trying to delegitimize the actual media so that it becomes the sole source of information. An outlet that leans left doesn't fix that.

It's all online.

An actually leftist media outlet (on television, which is what we're talking about here) is kind of hard to do when those stations fundamentally rely upon the systems that leftists are out to critique and abolish. Mega rich capitalists aren't too excited about funding a media outlet that's calling for wealth redistribution.

"A 'left version' of Fox News" would be as detrimental to the United States and the world as Fox News. That isn't the sort of thing anyone should be wishing for.

Unfortunately due to the nature of leftist politics and the current nature of the United States, a leftist cable channel would be quickly kicked off air or pushed to the fringes.

Podcasts and youtube are currently where it's at. Random plug for What A Hell Of A Way to Die.

A left wing version of Fox News wouldn't be as effective because the left doesn't congregate to the same extent as the right.

If I was an American, I think I'd want news that is rational, sensible and as unbiased as possible. The answer to the media issue in the States isn't to counter Fox News. The real solution is to regulate the fuck out of your media and ensure your populace is better educated.

Here's a good start:

Alternet.

The Intercept and it's associated podcasts are great.

Jacobin is a good outlet with a socialist perspective on the news. Check out their 2018 mixtape of articles.

Mother Jones.

The Nation is also good.

Wouldn't it end up being shit like "how the fluoride in your water is killing you" and "Bernie isn't left enough, but here's why he's the only one you can vote for" 24/7?

"Why democrats need to refocus on the white working class and return to classical liberalism"

It doesn't need to be a "left" media outlet.

What you want is a news outlet that focuses on the important news, reported thoroughly and accurately, and not just the shit that will get the most clicks/views.

You should not want a blanket Left-leaning (Demcoratic) slant in your news. They will do the same shit the next time someone on the right says something akin to "Motherfucker", while letting Democratic corruption slide under the rader.

The left in general is fact based so doesn't like extreme opinion outlets etc ... unless your opinion is the left needs some brainwashing outlet in a team left vs right thing

There's a difference between liberal and leftist. The liberal media will always kowtow to monied interests, that's why CNN and MSNBC are shitty and centrist. Leftist media wouldn't be compatible to monied interests because leftism wants to dismantle capitalism which would hurt the bottom line. That's why leftist publications are online.

Here's the problem: Fox News is emotion based. They are very good at getting the chemicals in your brain going. That chemical addiction is real and will keep viewers hooked.

The lefty equivalent of Fox News would be dry facts and reporting. There's no way to make empathy and compassion as exciting to the brain as fear and anger.

I'm going to argue that the daily show and the Colbert show sort of filled that niche, but no one's been able to copy that success since Stewart left.

Overall, I think Guardian and Al Jazeera do good job. Both have flaws but are still good.

It is strange someone can look at Fox News, recognize all the problems and issues with it, and then say the solution is to get a "left fox news." The simple solution is there should never be anything like Fox News in the first place.

Pretty sure MSNBC is considered left by most, perhaps not far left enough for some.

There's also NPR, which rocks.

A left Fox News would be about as successful as a left tea party. A terrible idea from the get go.

you'd get TYT on steroids

I'm saying we need to find a way to elicit the same chemical response on the left on a Fox News scale. Obviously without lying, but if you have to fear monger, maybe we have to go that route. Lord knows there's enough to be scared of.
