Didn't the director of those now work for Nintendo on Skyward Sword, Breath of the Wild 1 and 2 as director on those?

Indeed, Fujibayashi directed OoX, Four Swords, and Minish Cap while on his time with Capcom. Though, he is now with Nintendo and has directed the 3D games since Skyward Sword, and subdirected Phantom Hourglass. His career has basically been pure Zelda since the 2000s.

Midgar, With Love
It's best never to convince ourselves that anything is "obviously going to happen." People have been telling me WW and TP would pop up on Switch "any day now" since 2017. lol

I want this too though!

I was so sure that these two were next.
I'd love it but this was for your first mistake. Even when it makes 100% sense to do something, this is Nintendo. They always do things they're way and almost never stick to expectations. This is what we love and sometimes hate about them, but overall it's a net positive in the end

Seeing these are Capcom games they could do some type of collaboration to re-release and include Minish Cap.

Oh god no. Not with Link's Awakening Remake artstyle eww

I'm way more disappointed by the lack of an actual brand new 2D Zelda, tbh...

Would have been nice for them to announce Gameboy NSO with metroid and zelda games being the highlights.

Yes please, these games are mad underrated. Far better than the other flagship game, Minish Cap.
remakes for those two were always incredibly unlikely

a) they're capcom games, not made by nintendo themselves
b) they're too similar to link's awakening
c) they only work as a pair
(d) LA remake was a full price thing and they'd have to sell both at full price which lol yea no way)
Technically they were made by flagship, not Capcom. And this doesn't really make sense, it's like saying there's no way Hyrule Warriors can come to Switch because it's made by Koei Tecmo.

Fujibayashi was director for these games though, that makes it more likely in my opinion. I agree this anniversary is too soon after LA, but c and d are the same argument and two full price pokemon games coming out in November tell me Nintendo does not see that as a problem.

They're great games but I'd rather get new ones than remakes. And not everything has to come in one year, that's total overkill.

Skyward Sword
WW + TP
OoT + MM
BotW2

…and now this? People had high expectations for Zelda this year, lol.

For real, though, something that did disappoint me was the lack of NSO news. A GB/GBC expansion is a must, and I would expect these games in the initial drop. Both are fantastic, it really felt like playing them on the 3DS brought out their best, and the Switch would be a perfect new home for them.

I would totally love to see this. As they stand, they can be a bit unwieldy. With the improved gameplay of LA remake, these games would be awesome. I would prefer a modified artstyle because I'd like LA remake to keep that look as it's own thing. I'm a big proponent of each game looking as distinctive as possible. But just a few new character models would do. Lighting changes can make a lot of the existing assets look quick different.

But I don't see it needing to be tied to any anniversary. I am actually rather relieved they returned to something more sensible for this anniversary. 35 is not a special number. Mario only got special treatment because it was intended to promote Super Nintendo World.

All the gnashing of teeth over not getting a massive blowout is peak entitled gamer. Saying Nintendo isn't showing love to Zelda is like something out of My Super Sweet 16.

The anniversary is barely being acknowledged. SSHD feels like they're treating it as any other remaster, rather than part of an anniversary event.

Didn't even think of those games but now I'm pretty pissed that we won't get remakes of them...
Thanks for ruining my Sunday evening, OP.

Btw what is the former handheld Zelda team working on these days, since Nintendo consolidated those teams?
Depends on which team you mean.

Flagship (Oracles/Four Swords/Minish Cap) was shut down and absorbed into Capcom. Nintendo poached Hidemaro Fujibayashi, who had directed all of the Flagship-made Zelda games, as detailed here.

The EAD Kyoto Software Development Department (Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks/Link Between Worlds/a whole lot more) got merged into EPD (Entertainment Planning & Development) in 2005, along with the rest of EAD and SPD. EPD is currently working on BOTW2, among other projects.

Grezzo (Ocarina of Time 3D/Majora's Mask 3D/Tri Force Heroes/Link's Awakening Remake) just put out the Switch port of Miitopia, so what they're doing next is a mystery.

Well, this thread just made me depressed by making me remember that we're probably not getting remakes of my favorites 2 zelda games.
I would love nothing more than oracles remakes.

I'd rather they not do it if it's gonna look like Links Awakening and blur our the edges of the frame for no reason.

I didn't think the LA Remake art style fit the game at all, but would work with the Oracle games a lot better.

How excited would you be if they did a full-on visual remake in the style of Link's Awakening, both games in one.... plus the originally planned THIRD game, Oracle of Secrets?
Possibly / probably. Farore was the Oracle of Secrets, like how Din was the Oracle of Seasons and Nayru was the Oracle of Ages.
Oh OK, thanks. I never played the games, but knew there was a third planned at one time.

I've been wanting this for so long. LA was great. The GBC games are neat, but are severely hindered by the lack of buttons, I can't bring myself to play them again. The Oracle games really need a remake to shine.

Yep. Btw, if anyone who wants to play these has a 3DS, they're on the 3DS VC complete with the cross game compatibility. GBC games look really nice on the 3DS Virtual Console since they retain their original resolutions, I played the version of LA DX and the LA Remake back to back and honestly enjoyed LA DX more.

I hope they can do a new 2D Zelda game using the LA Remake engine, though.

I think a major issue is that these are indeed two full-fledged games. Nintendo can either A) remake them and sell them at $60 each or B) release them as one package. A sounds more of a Nintendo thing to do.

Frankly, Zelda's 35th was missing a lot. We didn't even get a cheap-port collection a la SM3DAS, just Skyward Sword HD and that's it. Doubly weird after it was revealed that Mario Sunshine Switch was running on a GameCube emulator.

Also this. The more I think about the Oracle games, the more I realize we're not going to get a remake that combines both into one package that's playable solo to the true ending without codes/linking/etc., but rather two games for $60.

The Zelda anniversary has been nothing but a big disappointment, but Oracle remakes topped my wishlist for sure. They are top-tier Zeldas IMO. I would pay full price for both.

I'm pretty sure these games are in the pipeline, but probably on pause or late to the party until normal work schedule can resume.
Hopefully, they'll have ironed out the few problems of Link's awakening remake by then.

I was hoping to see this as well. Never imagined being Capcom games would be a problem, since I didnt remember those being Capcom games. But my hopes for remakes of these have now declined a bit:(

Oh yeah I've definitely thought about it and was hoping for something like it at the E3 direct. I was also hoping for Wind Waker and that was too much to ask apparently....

Weren't these done by Capcom? Let them do the Remake too, have them add DMC Combat on top

No, it's not missing. You lack imagination. They should make a NEW zelda game in the Link's Awakening remake engine, but they won't. They don't have the manpower to do a new 2d zelda and I doubt they would trust Grezzo with it. So you'll eventually get one of these old zelda games reheated when Nintendo needs to fill out a weak schedule.

The title wording is weird to me. Nintendo isn't going to announce something that doesn't exist. It's lacking the games themselves, not the announcement of said games.

Yeah, do this and add the planned third game!

Was that the planned title? I was trying to thing up something for it.

"Oracle of Laughs"
I believe the game was scrapped pretty early on, back when they were titled Mystical Seed of Power/Wisdom/Courage. It seems there's some agreement the name change came about due to the reduction to two games, but while people agree Seasons was adapted from Power, there's not a real consensus on whether Ages came from Wisdom or Courage. Obviously, Nayru matches up with the name of the goddess of wisdom. However, Mystical Seed of Courage was supposed to use a time mechanic (albeit on a daily scale - you'd manipulate the time of day instead of what year it is), while Wisdom was supposed to have a color-themed mechanic. On the other hand, Wisdom was reported to focus more on puzzles like Ages did (Power focused on combat like Seasons, and unfortunately Courage didn't have a known focus).

Personally, I don't see much value in developing a third game as part of the series (or more specifically, attempting to revive the original plan). I wouldn't be surprised if not much was developed beyond the scenario; the fact that Ages seems to be a mash of two of the game concepts tells me they likely weren't too far along when the decision came to cancel one (if they were more complete, it would've been a lot easier to just use game than rework both to fit together). This also fits with the idea that they weren't originally planning on releasing the games on the same day; development of the three could've been a little more staggered at first. Seasons may have some ideas that were left behind in the decision to go down to two games, but I imagine the bulk of Ages' actual implementation came about without plans for the third.

Both games as they are now are likely incompatible with a third title not just technically, but conceptually. The third game was ultimately scrapped because they were having trouble designing a way for three games to link together; I doubt plans for it ever got too far along.

To be clear, I don't mind Grezzo making a new Zelda game in a similar style, and they can even use whatever scenario Capcom had for all I care. But I don't think it should be included as part of the Oracle set; just let it be it's own thing.
