SO this gets a bit more exposure Jonathan Cooper, is hosting a test run of what he calls the video game animation awards 2018. The link in the tweet leads to his website, (also the best place for info about game animation), which has a link to the form where you can fill out entries.

Who is Jonathan Cooper? A rundown:
Animator on Uncharted 4/Lost Legacy at Naughty Dog.

Previously Animation Director on Assassin's Creed III at Ubisoft Montreal:
(note this video shows the amount of work that his team did as he's seemingly removed his anim reel)

Lead/Cinematic Animator on Mass Effect 2 at BioWare Montreal

Lead Animator on Deus Ex: Human Revolution at Eidos Montreal
Principal Lead Animator on Mass Effect at BioWare

Post your favs from 2018 preferably with examples era.

If you haven't played Lost Legacy yet and intend to without wanting to be spoiled by some of the more intense sequences, don't watch the first video.

RDR2 has some insane gameplay animations but GOW triumphs it in cinematics and responsiveness so I would say GOW is the game with the best animations of the year.

It helps that GOW's combat animations are ridiculously good looking.

GOW has the best animation this year, it not only looks great but also feels good, the momentum is perfect, and certainly feels very responsive as mentioned above.

RDR2 animation looks great but only ''looks'' great. Most of the time It just feels disconnecting to me, like it's breaking the immersion instead of enhancing it.

Also shout out to Monster Hunter World, still one of the best gameplay animation in gaming imo.

From a pure in-game animation stand point i think RDR2 trumps everything that came out this year. Some of the GOW stuff outside cut scenes felt un-natural at times.

The sheer amount of mocap in RDR2 is a technical achievement in and of itself. So many different little interactions and unique animations in every single mission.
