Doesn't Call of Duty take up 1/3-1/4 of the storage space? Lmfao
About 1/5, but that's an extreme case.

Okay, but how can we tell if people are concerned or not?Can we stop with the damn concerned nonsense, not everyone who bring up issues are trolling.
How is that fine? Given the size of these games, it is something that was expected from launch but now it's fine?
I really hope this is true, I guess we have to wait until launch and someone tests out external hard drives on PS5.To play them yes. But they can be stored on external drives, there is no "storage issue" for PS5 games as the post I replied to implied.
This was announced already, it's not a big deal and will be solved sooner than later. How is that fine? Given the size of these games, it is something that was expected from launch but now it's fine?
Yes he did. But I guess it's good to see another confirmation, because things can change a few months later. Which they apparently didn't.
given this is Sony, I don't expect external SSD support for a few years.Expected, hopefully it's not something that isn't addressed in the first 3-6 months though
whats your source?
That is not true. My understanding is that PS5 games will only be allowed to install and run from the fast internal SSD. They made a big deal about this and PS5 developed games like Rachet needing that blazing fast read speeds etc. Ext drives simply are not fast enough. hence the expandable storage bay inside the console they are working to certify SSDs.
I don't want to either but for launch I don't need that much storage so it's whatever.I don't wanna transfer over back and forth. I was planning on grabbing an SSD ASAP. Oh well
Would've figured they might have access to some stock before those launches. I don't work at Sony so I don't know the ins and outs. How would they if there aren't any drives on the market? They pretty much are on the manufactures timeline
They more than likely wouldn't.Would've figured they might have access to some stock before those launches. I don't work at Sony so I don't know the ins and outs.
I understand its not the end of the world but I would have thought this would be available at launch. Anyway it's on its way and that's great news. This was announced already, it's not a big deal and will be solved sooner than later.

Yes, backup is for PS5 games if it's true, though Sony needed to say that directly for a confirmation.
Same, plus with all the storage possibilities and big games, having cold storage is a requirement, more so if you are digital only.
PS4 games can be played off cold storage, an external usb drive. Indeed they're encouraging people to do just that to keep SSD space for PS5 games.
Well that's good at least, thanks
You mean you can use an external SSD? As I thought they need to certify the SSD because of the crazy speed that is required? It wasn't expected and it's fine because there are other viable options. That is unless you want all of your games to work from an internal storage.
I don't want to either but for launch I don't need that much storage so it's whatever.
(I don't even mind just having a couple games installed at once these days, even if I prefer having more)

When did they confirm that?
I know, but no reason it wouldn't support if the OS benchmark tools were ready.
On Xbone for example, Ms does have a list of certified drives but since it's impossible to test them all the console itself runs the benchmarks and assesses if the performance is enough, so you can venture off that list and buy one not officially supported. I would assume even with their certification process there will be benches performed by the console itself and if this is ready by launch I'm sure there will be a shitton of people testing for compatibility asap.

Actually, I meant I want to know about the cold storage solution as in storing PS5 games on external hard drive when not playing them and transferring back to the internal SSD when you want to play them again.
We were told in March - eight months ago - not to buy an SSD until it's been approved. Having a long list of compatible drives at launch would have been nice, but that was never promised or expected. How is that fine? Given the size of these games, it is something that was expected from launch but now it's fine?

Wait what? This was expected.
This is the only article I've seen that explicitly states you can put PS5 games on an external drive. Sony hasn't said it and none of the other articles about PS5 storage say it. What is their source? Or did they just make the same mistake many of us did when remembering Cerny's statements on the subject?

Yep was about to say the same. ive watched countless videos from tubers and playstation support and dont recall anyone saying you can dump PS5 games onto ext usb for cold storage. you probably can do it, like XSX but Sony should have straight forward confirmed it in that article.
Considering we only have one from WD that they say will work, one from Samsung we assume will work. That's it. Not exactly flowing with expansion cards choices right now. Sony said they would give more information when it was available, we should wait.
