Bugsnax was another game that had a weird reveal. So you eat stuff and then you become the stuff that you eat? This was the vibe I got from the trailer.

Honestly, we tuned in the event to see PS5 games. Some of them were cool like Stray but things like Goodbye and Bugsnax didn't fit in the theme of the event - Future of Gaming.

I find no problem on it being a "furry" game. The issue is that the character design is hideous. I'm not one to shit on Indie games, but when the trailer started playing I just couldn't believe how... ugly... the characters looked.

I have no doubt that there is some truth to this, for at least some of the people who have hit the dislike button.

But if I can offer my perspective. I watched an hour long showcase of next gen games to see what games are coming that are exciting, but also what the PS5 is capable. From that perspective, this was easily the most odd trailer in the whole show. It did not look impressive, it did not look next gen, and it was hardly an exciting trailer in comparison to the other stuff shown.

It doesn't help that Furry art/design is polarizing at best. I was not offended by the trailer. I did not hit the dislike button on any of the trailers (or the like button for that matter). But if someone asked my opinion on the show, I'd say that most games looked pretty cool - except for this one. That's not due to any sort of discrimination or nefarious element - it just simply wasn't a good fit in a next gen focused show.

This will be the case. I was ambivalent about it beforehand with no strong opinions either way because it's not the kind of game I think I'd have played regardless, but if those accusations of them writing child pron are real, I certainly can't support the title. Frankly, I don't dare Google to find out.


The problem comes in that a whole bunch of shitstains will retroactively use that as justification for hating on the game when actually they're really motivated by the obvious LGBT and similar inspiration in the game.

I'll be perfectly honest and thought it was a little... cringey with the melodramatic dialogue over the artstyle which I wasn't really a fan of.

But I'll say this, it looks like it absolutely has a lot of heart and it's pretty cool that Sony went with presenting this alongside other big name titles and giving a platform for a story about LGBTQ and non-binary characters. I may not personally identify with it, but hopefully those that do feel seen with this game.

I was very interested in it but that kotaku article was... surreal. I kinda get what she was trying to write about at the time, but including graphic images was extremely dumb. I'm glad she addressed it in that twitter thread just posted.

But yeah the majority of those dislikes will be from people who hate anything with furries/colors/slightly gay themes/all of the above.

Hopefully it doesn't disuade Sony from promoting similar visually distinct and queer games in the future. Hell, showcasing anything remotely adventure game-y/visual novel in 2020 is remarkable.

They mocked hentai featuring game characters, some which are canon young characters, and described it. So they weren't making up sexual descriptions of the characters, but talking about the weird shit they found.

Definitely a dumb idea to post that as an article on Kotaku, but it doesn't seem to me that they're a hardcore abuser or there's any evidence of them actually partaking in pornography.

It was an article that posted pics of virtual child CP. The pic in question was of a young heromine granger who looked liked the actress that played her. It way more than just simply dumb. It was disgusting bullshit. The editor a couple hours later removed those pics but the damage was done.

This might have been the most empty game shown. Like, even threads about it here were pretty quiet and it may have been the only game getting a thread about it after the PS5 conference.

Also going to be dogpiled on because there was no gameplay, angry Gamer Boys calling it a "tumblr game", anti-furry sentiment, and then the writer's history on Kotaku.

To put it another way, nothing shown was putting the game in any positive light at all. I personally think it's kinda cool that the protagonist is a non-binary character, but the fact I know that before even knowing what the game actually is in terms of gameplay is almost as cryptic as Sony is when it's coming to console pricing right now.

Demon's Souls which in itself another amazing game was released on an impeccable time where consumers got tired of shooty shooty bang bang and wanted something different so their tastes shifted. Which is why Demon's Souls is still talked about today.
