It's a common conspiracy theory that Michelle Obama is a transwoman because ignorant assholes can't comprehend a ciswoman being 5'11" and having broad shoulders.

Reality is most Latinos in the south want to be white and are racist towards blacks, worship whiteness, and despise illegals. They are future GOP so the current push to pander to Latinos for Dems kinda looks foolish if most truly knew.

You're wrong, and this is some of the more egregious stereotyping happening in this thread.

This is not simply about "wanting to be white". There are white Latinos, point blank. There is colorism in Latin America. There is class warfare in Latin America. There are a variety of people in Latin America, and if they come to the US, you're certain to find those coming with great ideas and others with rotten ones.

America has unfortunately continued to foster a lot of racist, classist trash, whether homegrown or from abroad. But don't confuse this as "most Latinos come here and want to be white" like they are conforming to a uniquely America idea. It's more accurate to say they're playing the same game in a different arena.

But I mostly reject this idea that "most" of anybody is trying to be anything. Cut that out. The topic of human migration and the intertwining of political and social situations is too complex to go about it with these asspulls and generalizations.

Republicans were the party that stood up to Cuba's communist regime. So there's an understandable affinity for the Republican party amongst Florida Cubans. A good friend of mine is a right leaning Miami native Cuban. He voted for Clinton tho (begrudgingly) because he knew Trump was some bullshit. And through our friendship I've helped him see things from my lefty point of view.

When you flee brutal communist regimes, the idea of "less" government will feel particularly appealing even if it's not necessarily practical or good in every

The problem is the lack of critical thinking skills and ignorance with people. With even a cursory glance anyone can tell the Republican Party here is nowhere near about less government. They have moved towards fascism and want to implement many strict government laws and ban many religions and freedoms.

That's true of virtually any problem, the DSA for example wouldn't exist otherwise.

Yep that's Miami for you. It's mostly the older Cubans who escaped the island. They hold serious grudges and are extremely hard headed. My dad who isn't as old just follows along blindly just because, it's almost engraved in them. I got out of it, most younger Cuban Americans I assume are more likely to think freely and make up their own mind.

Huge chunks of Miami are a republican haven. Pretty much all Cubans in congress are republican, our local governments are filled with Cuban republicans. If the Trump administration hasn't changed them nothing will.

The old Cubans hate anything with even a whiff of socialism and still hold a grudge for Kennedy's mishandling Bay of Pigs.

The new Cubans are no different. So many have been brainwashed from young to hate the Democrats and anything that is tagged as socialist. So many young Cubans who just flip out at the mention of anything the media will label socialist. They have no connection to this, most are far removed from anything related to the homeland, but it's the hatred they were raised with.

None of this surprises me. As a civil servant in South Florida, our department is very diverse and yet even though the vast majority of our benefits come from Democrats/liberals, you can't even have a discussion at the dinner table with some of them without things getting heated.

I have some Latino friends' in Florida and they are conservative as fuck. They very much do believe that if they pretend to be better than other Latinos they are in fact better

That's another issue with the two party system in the US. Republicanism is way more appealing to a good chunk of latinos thanks to its opposition to women's rights, evangelicalism, anti-socialism and racism towards brown and black people. If you look at latin politics in our own countries you will see people saying shit about minorities and immigrants that not even the worst American politicians say. I mean, just this week there was a a senator in my country threaten a jewish businessman during a hearing by making references to gas chambers.

i think part of the issue is that many 2nd and 3rd gen latinos are so far removed from their culture that they lack identity and end up adopting aspects of white culture to feel like they belong in america
This happens far too much to people who immigrated to the US. I think it's CRUCIAL people know their roots and understand how easily they can be othered here. I def don't want my future kids not to know where my parents came from.

Tons of Cubans in Miami and Cubans HATE the Democratic Party.

This pretty much.

Note that there are a lot of Cubans who have turned on the GOP since 2016 (like pretty much all of my family except the really old people and this one ambulance chaser in his 30's), but will never vote for anything further left than center due to a genetically inherited case of the Red Scare (me included).

You'd be surprised to find out there's politicians from Latin American countries who'd make the GOP feel centrist by comparison.

And lots of people who support them.

You really don't change that political opinion "just" by leaving your country for a different one.

Certain Latinos adhere to Republican rhetoric because they share the same antagonistic disdain for Black lives.

It's really as simple as that I feel.

My mother-in-law is a Cuban immigrant and LGBTQ and she's a Trump supporter. I can't wrap my head around it. She's also pretty racist in general.

I think you can quite easily separate Republican support and Trump support when it comes to Latin Americans. Trump is the prototypical LA caudillo cult of personality candidate that Latin American is so used to seeing/trusting/voting for. The whole "only I can make it right" and "only I am strong enough to protect you from the other" is something that has always been a part of LA politics and connects very deeply with our culture, It makes sense that some would "look past his issues" to see him as a strong leader.

As for the Venezuelan contingent in particular, Its hard to blame them when Trump has been practically the only world leader in the past 20+ years to actually pretend he gives a shit about the country and call a spade a spade with regards to Maduro/Chavez/Etc. He obviously does not give a shit, and he obviously will not go through with any of the veiled threats of military intervention, but after 20 years of feeling helpless on the international stage people will cling to the first sign of hope.

People around here also seem to forget that a lot of latino immigrants are very religious and socially conservative. Them not being accepted by american republicans doesnt magically make them throw out their beliefs and turn democratic

All these Cuban dudes who's parents or grandparents benefited from the wet feet dry feet policy turning around claiming they did things legally don't mention the giant fucking asterisk when saying us from central America are illegals with derision.
