A lot of the tablets that help with symptoms can cause big problems if you take them long term because acid reflux is usually the result of a lack of acid not an over abundance, of course chat to your doctor but you can also try doing a few things with your diet like adding more salt (necessary for producing acid), taking hcl capsules with meals (and adjusting the amount until you find your tolerance), and maybe try stuff like apple cider vinegar in some water as well.

It might seem counter intuitive given the name but producing enough acid at the right time could solve your reflux.

Nexium and a small amount of bicarbonate of soda in warm water usually helps.

Also make sure you don't have any mouth abcess or tooth infections. I had blood poisoning for about 2 and a half years that caused acid reflux and it damn near killed me.

See a GI doctor. It's highly treatable and not worth ignoring since you can get GI and esophageal cancer

Prilosec takes like a week to kick in anyway.

I used to suffer from this pretty badly in my youth. My temperament was a bit different then, true, but honestly I think the biggest thing I did to cure myself of this condition was to STOP TAKING MEDICATION FOR IT!

Stop.

You're not a doctor.

Plus my gastroenterologist told me Zantac and tums are basically harmless to take every day indefinitely.

Unfortunately an endoscopy for me will be anywhere from $200-400... With insurance. And thats after my primary care doctor visit, which will be $80.... With insurance. *sigh*

It'll be worth it though

You gotta do it though.

I got my endoscopy with bravo scheduled next month. It's to gather more data on my reflux

Hello.

Please get it checked out. I had bad GERDS. And I didn't take the best care of it. I have no genetic markers for cancer.

I was diagnosed with esophageal adenocarcinoma 4 years ago. It was right at the junction of my esophagus and stomach. Now I have no stomach and my esophagus is attached to my small intestine. Also, they found what might be peritoneal metastasis in my colon this week.

So, please get yourself checked out and cut things off before they get out of hand.

I'm so sorry. How did they catch it? Were you taking any medication to prevent this?

Helicobacter pylori eradication has more to do with treatment of peptic ulcer disease and prevention of gastric cancer, not the formation of GERD. Treatment of H.pylori has never been shown to definitively affect gastric acid production. Stop confusing the two topics.

Without getting scoped you can't definitively tell which condition you actually have.

Stopping medicine is something I'd only do if it was long term medication; so long term that I couldn't definitively say what happens when I was off of it. Basically, something a Gastroenterologist will ask you to do if you say "I don't know".

But even then, it's just an experiment, it's not a lifestyle change. I went from Lansoprazole to Gaviscon Advance but only on the direct advice from my specialist...and that's after Endoscopy, 24hr pH testing, Celiac and HPI testing, etc.

Had this shit in my teenage years. Not fun. Not fun waking up and feeling like you want to puke or even have a little bit of it in your mouth in the morning some times. Not fun having to go on a bland diet for 3+ months. About the only thing I remember that did help immediately was elevating my head to keep shit out of my throat when I wake up in the mornings. About the only thing i still do now is I never sleep on my stomach anymore and still keep my head elevated.

See a doctor. I've had it for almost 3 years started out of the blue. Take a Medication that's way too expensive if not for insurance. But my insurance won't cover the procedure to fix the problem.
