I still give a slight edge to the originals but the prequels have very, very good music. Much better than the sequel trilogy.

Other than the fact that the main refrain that everyone remembers from Duel of the Fates was STOLEN from old Shaw movies, sure.

The prequels have "Across the Stars" which automatically makes it close. But the originals still outpace them overall.

I also want to add, just in case no one else does, that the sequel trilogy may have the weakest music overall but there are a fair few excellent tracks in there nevertheless.

Yeah. I reached this conclusion recently. Once my nostalgia googles were off regarding the OT and I revisited the music from all the trilogies there is no mistaken that Williams really had his foot in the Prequels. The Prequels might not have turned out great but it's clear at least to me that Williams was buying what Lucas was selling and he did not phone it in.

Original trilogy ost still edges out for me, but just by a bit. The prequels did have amazing ost.

I think the OT has the overall best soundtracks but Duel of the Fates and Battle of the Heroes are the best individual Star Wars songs ever IMO.

Prequels by a long shot. The originals had solid music too, but nothing comes close to the prequel music. John Williams was at the top of his game.

Best part is, I could post more. Padme's Rumination, Battle of the Heroes, Duel of Fates, etc.

I just realized I can't remember a single note of new music from the ST.

rey's theme is pretty good.

duel of the fates was so strong that when i was a teenager and heard someone playing the soundtrack, i didn't recognize it from the prequel trilogy, but i immediately picked up on it being 'star wars'.

Prequels have a couple of really great, standout tracks like Duel of the Fates and Across the Stars, but the OT is just stacked top to bottom with iconic, timeless music.

The Star Wars main theme
Binary Sunset
Imperial March
Emperor's Theme
Yoda's Theme
Asteroid Field
Luke and Leia
Leia's Theme
Han and the Princess
Cloud City
Throne Room
Battle of Endor

etc.

I mean, come on. Don't be silly.

I feel like it's easy to take the Originals for granted because we've all grown up with it, but the whole thing is pretty much hit after hit.

The prequel scores are still great. And the ST stuff still is pretty good even. The Jedi Steps and the Spark are both really great tracks, in addition to Rey's theme.

Across The Stars is a masterpiece and gives me chills everytime I hear it. It's crazy how a 5:30 minute track can convey a doomed romance better than 2 full length movies.

Agreed. One good thing I can take away from Episode II is Jango's theme:

This track made its way into many of the Star Wars games of that era, and some of the newer ones as well, so that's another reason I remember it so fondly.

Great music across all 3 trilogies. Throw in some of the Solo and Rogue one stuff too.

Remember when they used Duel of the Fates in TROS trailer but then it was no where in the movie? :/

I mean I know it was just a trailer but I swore they mentioned them using music from all of the trilogy in that movie...

I think I agree. I guess the OT could win since technically it started with the actual theme which more people would know, but if you count it for Prequels as well then they win.

I was watching some Olympic Ice skating about 15 years ago and I started to hear this music in the background but not from the tv and it was the most epic skating I have ever seen.

Bullshit, imperial March alone gives it to the OT

PT music is very good though and then ST music is dead last

Obviously it won't be everyone's jam... And it's not very traditionally Star Wars-y

But this might honestly be my favorite track in the entire series (not just movies)

i legit don't remember any prequel music besides duel of fates, across the stars, and the music from when anakin and obi wan fight in revenge of the sith

while good pieces of music, none of which were actually associated with good moments on the screen. you have the obi wan and qui gon overly choreographed lightsaber fight, the horrendous climax of anakin and padme's """"romance"""' in clones, and the goofy, 45 minute long cgi fuck fest.

meanwhile, i still get chills watching rey go up those steps to meet with luke at the end of TFA. jedi steps actually made me feel something.

OT > ST > PT

Just so we are clear, John Williams Theme from Superman is the greatest song in film ever.

it's the imperial march and while the superman theme is indeed great, Star Wars, Empire and Jedi's soundtrack as a whole shits on Superman 1978

Imperial march, Yoda's theme, Leia's theme, Luke's theme, and the fucking MAIN Star Wars theme.

John Williams himself would pick the OT. It's not even debatable.
