I wish Microsoft and Valve on making Windows and Steam better to use for gaming on tablet PCs. Like, why there is no built-in on OS level support for custom touchscreen gestures? And why Steam allows creating an on-screen overlay with buttons when you are streaming games to android phones, but not allowing to use this feature on the desktop? I'm occasionally gaming on windows based tablets since 2013, but even now, after Switch success, support for tablet PCs are still laughable and baffling. It's a huge missed opportunity, having your Steam library ready to use on a portable device is a huge deal for me, my tablet is basically HOG/indie machine, but with external software, you can create on-screen buttons and most games are perfectly playable this way (if you have enough performance to run them of course). MS shouldn't have to start chasing streaming while forgetting about improving native solutions for portable gaming.

Is there any video where I can see "the story so far" for Metro? I read Metro 2033 and played the game but have no information about Last Light.

MS's response would: 'Play on xbox, you're welcome!'

Looking at my Steam front page is like that Simpsons joke about Fox gradually turning into a hardcore porno channel while they weren't noticing.

RE2 is still top seller....damn. Plenty of CNY angbao money going to good use.

I was never really that big of a fan of Borderlands 1 or 2, the meme "humour" did nothing for me, but Tales from the Borderlands is legitimately sharp. Owned it for years, finally playing it. Excluding animations, it still looks pretty clean on PC at 5120x2160. I hope Gearbox hired whoever wrote Tales for Borderlands 3. Also, Fiona Loader Bot is bae.

I must be getting old. I just can't get worked up over the Epic Game Store. Maybe it will motivate Valve to improve? Maybe not? Maybe Epic Store will be a huge failure and waste all of Epic's Fortnight money? Or it might be a success? Ultimately I just don't care. For me, it comes down to "Do you have a game I want on a platform I use? if not, your loss."

Anyways, since I just built a new computer and I finally have the power to run it, I've been making my way through Batman Arkham Knight. I'm close to the end but haven't beaten it yet. I've done virtually all the side content except that the 200+ Riddler puzzles and a few bombs to defuse. Oh and the DLC missions with other characters. The game is divided into 3 section:

1. The Batmobile is a clumsy ball and chain. Not sure about it.
2. Really liking the game. Good old fashion Batman action and even the Batmobile sections are good.
3. GOD DAMN MFing BATMOBILE!!!

The worst part is the game has run smoothly until now. I've had about 5 crashes with this last battle where as the game in 30 hours hasn't crashed once until now.

I haven't been keeping up with the Apex Legends threads; is there reason to think it's coming in lieu of Titanfall 3?

Didn't like a founder and a good chunk of Respawn left and formed a new studio at 2k? That may have more to do with the change than anything else.

I wonder why FC4 never goes above 60% though (FC5 bombed?)..
Just have to keep your eyes open. I got it 75% off at Humble plus another 10% because of the monthly subscription.

I put a few hours into Praey for the Gods this weekend. While it is still pretty rough around the edges, they have a very strong base. My experience with Shadow of the Colossus is beating the first boss during my PlayStation Now trial, and Praey is definitely influenced by Shadow. But it also has a lot of mechanics from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. You have to gather resources to upgrade equipment, you can cook food to restore health, and there is a hunger, heat, and sleep meter you need to keep an eye. Those meters are not too punishing. I did go to an area that my clothes were not warm enough for, and froze to death.

Performance wise it's okay. I have an i5-4690k and GTX 980, running at 1440p. It stays above 60 fps when there aren't too many particles on screen. When there is like fire and a lot of snow, it drops down pretty significantly. But I expect it will smooth out over time as they continue to update it. But yeah, I think it's going to scratch that Shadow of the Colossus itch on PC. I'm really glad that I backed it.

Thanks for the impressions. I backed the game on Kickstarter as well and received my key but I think I'll wait for some more patches (or even for v1.0) before playing it.

I played my PS3 mostly this weekend, besides being busy and only gaming a couple of hours...

Has there been any word on AMD's follow up to the Ryzen APUs? Eventually i'm going to need to replace my pc and in a few years I'm going to go as small and as quiet as possible. If I can get the cpu and gpu on the same chip, all the better.

The game has a built-in feedback option in the menu, so I've been sending a lot of feedback. I think they have the gameplay loop down pretty well, they just need to polish it. But yeah, I think this could be a surprise indie hit this year, if they can improve on it quite a bit. I think it will be a slow burner.

Not a time frame, no. Just that it will be the APU powering next gen consoles, and that it will be Zen 2 plus Navi.

Zen 2 plus navi..... I'm confused. We had the original zen, the refresh and AMD is still calling the upcoming zen cpus "zen 2"?

Ugh.

Far Cry 5 is going on sale so often and so hard because of New Dawn. They want people to get hooked before it comes out. It's a direct sequel to that.

I haven't really written about it, but I feel it's weird, maybe even unethical that Gaylonkin or however his name is spelled is receing a ton of money for keeping SteamSpy going while working on EGS.

Just....feels super weird. Like a conflict of interest sort of thing.

It's absolutely a conflict of interest.

He is also essentially getting crowdfunding for corporate espionage, which doesn't sit well with me at all.

While I agree, this falls on whoever is patreoning him. Why are they paying him? I guess he should close his patreon but its free money for him.

The info is hidden behind the patreon paywall. This info is free to everyone but I guess he thinks the way he formats it is worth paying for? Again, it might be time for him to have some competition for inaccurate data formatted nicely.

The whole doom and gloom narrative he's been pushing these last 2+ years makes so much more sense now.

Maybe all this just started the day Valve made it harder for him to collect good data via Steamspy. Everyone spoke how it was good for the privacy of customers, but Galyonkin knew it was nothing but a personal attack against him, against the very thing he created. An attack against all developers!

That day, he swore he would find his revenge, he would make GabeN pay and show him how it feels to have all that you ever cared for slowly crumble in front of your eyes. So he found a kindred souls with a ton of money, and set up to create something that would undo all that Steam ever stood for, turn it around and twist it into a sick parody of the original.
All the while, he hasn't lost his original goal: To get at the man who wronged him. Gaben tasks him, tasks him, and he shall have him. Galyonkin will chase him round the Moons of Nibia and round the Antares Maelstrom and round Perdition's flames before he gives him up.

Fuuuuuuuuck is Rime a bad game. Genuinely cannot believe anyone slogged through that and gave it a glowing review. 80% on Metacritic apparently. Utterly baffling. I gave up in my fourth hour when I saw there would be at least two more areas I'd need to bring myself to complete. I've enjoyed plenty of slow games, including "walking sims" and the like, but Rime is just tedious, unrewarding, and unsatisfying. At the very least, it's one more game I can knock off my backlog.

Honestly who cares? The guy spent years and continues to spend years collecting data on how massive/successful steam is.

And he decided to help create a store that does the exact opposite of what Valve does. He actually had an opportunity to create a real steam competitor that would be great for all pc gamers and help pc gaming grow. Instead it was fucking nothing. They are just flushing money down the toilet while pissing off the very same consumers they will need to buy games off their store. Its stupid really.

I remember sifting through the supporter-exclusive data around the time SI announced that FM2018 had hit 1m sales. SteamSpy's best estimate had it at about half that.
My main issue is that he even after he said the numbers are wrong, he never points out to the big mistakes his logarithm makes, only those result that were good.

When the MH numbers were crazy and everyone with two fingers knew they had to be wrong, he stayed quiet while people where using those numbers. He should have pointed to them and said they were very likely a mistake. A good statistician should point to the big outliers he can find to show that his model is not perfect when it is taken as the truth. Even more when according to him the results have at least a 10% error range (in average).

Edit: and I have comented since day 1 how i find it unethical to actually be profiting from a Patreon from what can be considered competitive research, as well as him not disclosing that.

I've enjoyed artsy games like Proteus, Abzu, and others. But the very act of playing Rime just felt so laborious and meaningless at every point. Movement is painfully slow, the camera is the same, and the puzzles are barely puzzles. Definitely not for me.

Yeah the puzzles were rubbish and pointless, i kept expecting it to get a bit more complicated but it really is just a walk through with some nice aesthetics. I didn't think it was a waste of my time but i've no inclination to play it again.

I've gotten so used to great PC ports (Resident Evil 2, Destiny 2) that when I encounter a game that doesn't run all that great (Anthem demo), it makes me seriously consider not buying it.

I'm pretty sure I've played more Destiny 2 than I otherwise would have because of just how well it runs on PC.
