Neutering the flashlight mechanic is completely missing the point of Doom 3 though.
BFG is still a good experience, but Doom 3 proper is very unique in its mood and flashlight mechanic. (At the time at least)
They removed the horror/tension in BFG. And IIRC the Steam version also had graphical compromises compared to the original?
I agree that the removal of the flashlight without any option to play the classic way is stupid and hurts the game but its still a solid, tense game without it. The SH HD Collection on the other hand is borderline busted/unplayable. lol

I'm shocked, for the first time the classic DOOM games are translated in Spanish! I recall they even weren't translated when included in BFG Edition.

I kind of wish they re-released this on Steam as well, with Steamworks support for custom WADs.

Doom used to be on iOS, but the old version doesn't work since it went 64 bit.

I loved Doom 2016 but I've never played Doom, Doom II or Doom 3 so I'm pretty excited to check them all out.
Doom 3 looks pretty nice on Switch with native res. Have to say, looks better than the blurry ports from Wolfenstein.
It is gone from PSN Europe. If you or anybody have plans to get it then I recommend you do it now because it might be gone in the US too in the future.

It's a decent horror game if you play it as it was intended, but a pretty mediocre FPS if you use the flashlight mod and go through it like a normal, better-lit shooter.

Okay I knew one of those versions had this issue. I weirdly spent a lot of time with the 360 & PS3 versions of Doom 1 & 2 so I conflate their issues. Did the 360 versions ever get patched?

I didn't have the PS3 version, but don't remember this issue with the XBLA version.
Does Doom 3 have the duct tape flashlight mod? Can't remember if that was official or not but the game wasn't particularly playable without it.
Sadly no. Which is a shame, since I prefer playing on 360 over PS3, since holding run speeds up turning as well as movement.
Yessss. And for some reason, I always relate the old school Doom games to Nintendo, even though they used to be PC exclusives. It's a weird relationship but I think it's because of how well designed Doom games usually are.
I want to say Wolfenstein 3D on both 360 & PS3 had this speed issue as well, right?
Doom did come to the SNES with the cool black cartridge. There's Doom 64. Doom & Doom 2 came to the GBA... so I think your Nintendo association with Doom is reasonable.

Funny. I just bought the BFG edition the other night on Humble Bundle. May have to go for a triple dip on this one.

Serious question: Do the DOOM and DOOM II ports have blurry textures? i.e. are the graphics smoothed, and if so can you disable it? Because this is literally a deal breaker if the textures and sprites are smoothed. I want my pixels crisp and blocky. I won't buy it if there isn't an option to play it that way.
I'm just happy more people get to play one of the best games. That said, though I hold Doom 2 in extreme reverence, its real value is as a vessel for custom maps. There are megaWADs that blow most other shooters out of the water.
