It probably took me 8 hours to platinum.

And while the game is absolutely gorgeous and the design is great...the gameplay is just okay, the werewolf fights suck, and the story fizzles out without going anywhere. It'll never feel like more than a game missing the second part.
The whole game was just buildup for a sequel that never came because it was shit. Makes the whole story of 1 worthless.

I really liked the game when I played it, no regrets buying it. The ending was rather bad unfortunately, but that does not diminish the things that were great. I've played far worse games.

I really need to get around to playing this. I have an ultrawide monitor, but the only thing stopping me has been the fact that the PS4 doesn't have native ultrawide support.

Even blown up, I imagine it'd look beautiful..

It's ok if you think the game is good. Doesn't change the fact most people think it's hot garbage.

An average of anecdotes is more meaningful to a discussion than a single anecdotes

1. I'm not disputing that an average of 1200 people took 8 hours to finish the game. But OP said 'can we stop this 5 hour narrative' and I'm saying, no, it literally took me 5 hours. I timed it.

2. The Order could've been 20 hours and it wouldn't have made it any better. It was a blessing that it was so short.

I definitely wanted to love this game more than it made it easy to.

The issue wasn't it took however many hours, it was that it left me mostly curious of what could have been versus what was.

There's a good story and really deep lore attached to The Order. It's just not realized in the game to the fullest extent which was unfortunate.

They had to get the game out, but it was cut short by not having the hunted at storyline completed there to make all those systems worthwhile.

As a one time experience, if it's affordable, sure give it a try. But most of those 8 hours are spent fighting with the mechanics and walking. You can make a 100 hour game if you are only able to move at a snails pace. Looking at relics only for it to have nothing to do with the story. No upgrading, not much enemy variety, weak boss fights and you basically can't even chose which gun you want to use in many instances. The game looked great. I really enjoyed the story telling, but game play was terrible.

If you're monitor or TV is above 1080p it will look blurry, it's also over-saturated with post processing.

"You all suck for not buying the game!"

...then

"Buy it on sale!"

...if it's so good, shouldn't we buy it for full price then?

Or are you saying it's only worth $4-$8 because it's $1 an hour of play?

Does it matter anymore? Nobody is continuing that conversation because the game was forgotten about. It won't stand the test of time, it will not be on anyone's list in 10 years.
That the game takes 5 or 8 hours is not what people are remembering now. Sure, that narrative played a part in its early demise, and that's sad...but it is over now. Even if we course corrected, even if we blasted everywhere that the game is just a tad longer than what was said back then, what would it change?

I like this video where a guy takes 5 hours and 31 minutes to beat and yet there's people in the comments bitching about him leaving all his deaths because it made the run longer. lol

Absolutely loved the game and was really sad we didn't get a continuation of Galahad's story.

The setting and the lore were something I was dying to see more of. Unfortunately, in the gameplay department, it was a bit lacking. I don't think it was near as awful as some people make it out to be, but it needed more. It's a shame this was Ready at Dawn's swan song for the PS4 as I would LOVED to have seen a sequel.

Game was totally worth a rental, I could see the initial backlash but to me the price is right to recommend it to anyone as a cool experience.

So Red Dead Redemption 2?

Sorry OP, even though I enjoyed the game to a certain extent, even I can recognize that it felt more like one game director's desire to be working in Hollywood than it was, you know, an actual fucking video game.

And yes, I am sure it only took me about 5-6 hours to platinum that game.

I feel like you are doing yourself a disservice if you want people to buy/experience this game by telling them it takes even longer to get through than they think

Great news people, it's 50% more terrible than you were led to believe.

(It's also not an 8 hour game, 3 hours is ridiculous but 5-6 seems much more accurate than 8)

Definitely pretty to look at, but the runtime was the least of that game's problems. It's a thoroughly mind numbing experience. Mediocre story, horrendous gameplay. Style points couldn't save it for me. Firewatch is a similarly short game with a vastly superior story at a fraction the cost.

I'm happy we are never getting a sequel. From the trio of bad launch (TO was not a launch game, I know) games: Knack, Ryse and The Order, The Order was by far the worst of the three.

The problem with the game was never playtime but lack of gameplay. Which is crazy, glad the sequel never got released.

Dia Lacina's 2018 Game of the Year.

I've actually been seriously considering going back and picking up a copy recently.
Yeah, Dia's list had me do a double take, and I'm left curious on this game that I remember being strongly disinterested in because of being tired of its cinematic genre at the time and my aversion to its setting/aesthetic. If I ever get around to The Order: 1886, it'll be because of "Dia Lacina's Top 10 Games of '2018'".

Playtimes in HLTB aren't super trustworthy if the game doesn't have a timer. A lot of people are simply giving their best guesses.

I wish PS4 had a system wide timer, because I like to know how much I've played a game.

Wouldn't it be better if the bad game was shorter? Typically people want bad games to be over with while they want good games to keep going, or ideally they end when they are through saying what they want to say and giving the experience they want to give.

Please don't talk about Knack like that. It's millions times better than it's average sequel.

Still hoping for a sequel down the line. Game was nothing special, but interesting enough that I'd love to see them take another shot at it.

Woah woah, let's not say things we'll regret later. Ryse was horrible. At least there was a sliver of something quasi-entertaining in The Order.

Edit: And Knack wasn't terrible! It was bland though. But still, not terrible.

If it was shorter I wouldn't have hated my time playing it as much. It was a slog to get through it when the combat scenarios are so rote and layouts of the arenas are unimaginative and never really make do you anything except hang back and pick and pop. And the few times you get cool weapons are very short and limited. and the supernatural fights just were awful. and then it just ended on such an anti-climatic QTE. The 4 dollars and time spent on this game would've been better served elsewhere.

Must be one of the few that enjoyed it. What killed part of the fun for me were the repetitive wolf boss fights. One of the worst bosses I ever battled, like wtf were they thinking?

Anyway i actually finished it and i can't say the same for more high profile games that have bored me to death.

Length of games aren't the deciding factor if a game is good or not, this game just wasn't all that great in general. Shooting felt generic and characters werent memorable at all.

took me about 5 hours (maybe even 4ish?), as did EVERYONE I know that played it.

so, yeah no its a shorty. I actually really liked it, but that's not the point of the thread.

Game felt completely devoid of any meaning, message, fun or value. Just an occasionally nice looking shooting gallery.

It released in a difficult time. Ps4 was selling very well but the exclusive line up was still lackluster. The Order 1886 release into that time and went up against sky high expectations and a toxic console war environment.

It wasn't a very good game, but the world was very cool, the lore was good, the art was amazing, the visuals are still among the best we've seen and even the shooting mechanics were pretty good.
Story was nothing special, though, the game was frustratingly linear, level design was uninspired and the pacing just seemed all over the place. And the boss fights were really bad.
I still had a good time playing through the game. I guess I would have been pissed had I paid 60$ for it, but I paid 5$, so thats okay.

I mean, look at that, thats not as bad as people made it out to be.

Its length was the least of its problems.

Awful writing, atrocious pacing, underutilized setting and lore and barely evolving gameplay loop and ideas is what killed this game.

Rented it at released and played through it.

Bought it for $5 on a sale not long ago, and it's still visually stunning, but the gameplay is very weak.

It's a good hamburger game.
