Honestly I'm much more worried if Bioware Edmonton can even manage to survive to release this Mass Effect project.

DA:I was five years ago. Anthem was almost two years ago and a failure. The next Dragon Age still looks to be *at least* two years away, if not three. This one won't be until 2026 or 2027, I think. Can Bioware survive so long with EA looking over their shoulders?

I wonder if they're still forced to use Frostbite.

Isn't the story that Andromeda's team chose to use Frostbite?

my favorite moments from the ME trilogy was just talking to people for WAAAAAY too long about anything and everything

what planet are you from, what's it like there, could i visit it and not die, what brings you here, are you the last of your race, are you hungry

I have a layman's understanding of Elcor culture and I'm a better person for it.

Yeah. Having a bunch of hard science fiction nerds write the first game was actually tons of fun.

I think what we can all agree on is that after the missteps that were Mass Effect 2, 3 and Andromeda the only thing to do is to return to the atmosphere, visual style and exploration RPG gameplay from the first game.
I mean, that's how they sold Andromeda to us.

But I agree the sequels never matched the tone of ME1, even if its controls were inferior.

100% destroy by the looks, and it's glorious.

My hype is reignited, lesssssgo 2024!!

Funny thing re: Destroy.

It's my least favourite of the endings (besides Refuse). I don't find Hackett's speech particularly poignant and I lament what happens to EDI and the Geth.

I've also spent the past eight years and counting saying that I recognize Destroy's immense popularity relative to the rest of the endings and that I would be 100% on board for a Destroy-canon scenario if it meant some sort of real sequel.

Here we (probably) are.

If they followed Synthesis I genuinely think I wouldn't have played the game. Both that and Control were against everything the trilogy stood for.

Happy they weren't cowards and picked an ending, and they picked the best one at that.

So, yeah, I've been super hesitant to share my excitement about this before more was said (because I wasn't keen on getting attacked again lol), but since it's already out there, here are several reasons:

There is a lot of strong old school talent from the original trilogy working hard to do this, including who's directing, though it's not my place to say and speak for them.

That's interesting that so many veterans would be returning. It isn't essential in order for there to be a Mass Effect game, but hope they are all being treated well and enjoy working on a familiar world.

Hopefully the people that are newer within Bioware or haven't worked on a ME game before are just as welcome at the table to shape and craft the game together.

Pretty much everything wrong with Andromeda is because of the development team and not EA.

Here we (probably) are.
The best option would be to use Destroy as the base and incorporate everything else from the other endings that would work within the framework of the red ending.

Keep the Geth alive via control portions, have some people experiment with Reaper tech to become some weird hybrids via synthesis portions.

Destroy by itself doesn't preserve enough of the world state and I hope they don't go with a singular path.

Honestly....I'm just super curious as to where this goes.

A part of me would like a....better/more proper denouement for Shepard and co. beyond the Extended Cut apartment party (which technically takes place pre-ending), but at the same time, I can't even begin to imagine the pressure of juggling the wants of the various elements of the (at times ravenous) fanbase versus what the devs feel they're best served by going, even without the massive double-edged sword that would comprise Shepard being the protag again.

Do they set destroy as canon, or try to sidestep it with the 'in the future' aspect
-If so, how far in the future are we jumping forward on/How far 'in the future' is this actually set?

Is Shep returning? Relatedly, will other companions (other than Liara, at least in some form) return?

Will the threat level be local/planet/cluster/galaxy based?

Are the reapers actually fully gone?

Do the devs set this game up as a solo venture, or try to lay hooks for another sequel/trilogy?

Do the devs risk bringing back elements of Andromeda, and/or try to link them?

So many questions/decisions that have to be made for a game like this one, both in terms of the fans' varied expectations, and the pressure for Bioware to prove it still has what it takes

....aaand we probably won't hear more about any of these answers until N7 day 2021 at the earliest, lol.

Excite.. i just hope they don't have mac walters on writing duties again.

I thiiink it was already confirmed he is?

Even if there's probably a dedicated skeleton crew for the next ME pre-production, unless priorities massively shift, DA4 is first, and at least at some point will take up all pretty much all hands on deck.

(Not to mention Anthem next, even if that is mostly/all on Bioware Austin at this point)

So, going off the fact we have an abstract pictures set to Varric dialogue for the recent DA4 trailer.....I'd say Winter 2024 at the earliest....would love to be wrong, though!

Regardless, definitely awesome seeing all those devs sign (back) on!

I'll be a little disappointed if they choose Destroy as the 'canon' ending. It's the most boring ending to me, essentially a refresh of the status quo, but without the Geth and EDI.

I feel like there's a way to do a Deus Ex Invisible War sort of situation where they take elements of all three endings and go forward from there. Make it so most of the Reapers were destroyed, but some were unaccounted for and disappeared back into Dark Space (possibly carrying a piece of Shepard's personality with them), keep the Geth around, and then make it so that after the Reaper War, new technology is discovered that expands the way organics and synthetics can interface with one another. Or if they set the timeline ahead a few centuries, they can probably get around just not really mentioning what happened during the Reaper War besides a few references since by then, likely the galaxy would have moved on (and was it just me or did Liara look maybe a little wrinkled? Might be evidence the timeline of the next game will be pretty far after since in the trilogy she's still very young for her race and they live for something like a thousand years).

Seeing a lot of the old team get together gives me warm fuzzies, but I really need Bioware to prove that they're capable of making great games again.

They better bring back Sam Hulick as he was the one responsible for giving Mass Effects score it's distinct sound.

Huh...maybe I missed it before, but that looks more like a Drell on the second to the right on the mud skipper picture this time around, rather than an angara (the profile reminds me of it, at least - though that might just be the vague outline of the duster-type coat - and I don't see the flesh folds on the sides of the head) and more certainly a solarian head on the right.

Rewatched the trailer and Liara is a little bit wrinkled. Wondering if this is a couple of centuries post-ME3. Would allow them to easily account for who is and isn't alive in various playthroughs.

Still love ME, but i have zero hope. EA and BW killed the soul of ME and just kept the name.

You are most definitely correct. Bioware themselves say the game is in early production. And given just how little they keep showing of Dragon Age 4.. thats probably a 2022 game.

2025 for the next Mass Effect wouldnt surprise me in the least.

Anyone else hoping the time skip is as short as possible? I feel like they're already committed to building off mass effect three strongly enough to where they shouldn't be afraid of making it take place relatively soon after the trilogy. If you want to make use of nostalgia you might as well give yourself the potential option to use more characters from races that don't live as long. Plus I'd like to see lots of cameos as a selfish request.

I hope it stays linear like previous games. I'll sleep easier knowing they can focus more on the narrative than making open worlds.

Love it.

Seeing Liara again, I just can't get over how Andromeda featured (literally?) two character face models for the Asari.

Hard to say if Jack Wall will return. I got the vibe that the reason he didn't return for ME3 was because EA/Bioware wanted to run music more in house.

Hulick isn't in house either, so I don't understand what you mean? (trivia tidbit: In fact, if it wasn't for Jack Wall, Sam Hulick wouldn't have been part of the ME soundtracks, since he was the one who hired him.)

Btw, I'm sure Jack Wall was also responsible for a lot of the tracks we all come to like, so if we say Sam Hulick, we also say Jack Wall. I mean, Wall wrote Vigil's Theme, The Wards, Feros, Virmire Ride and the Illusive Man and the Suicide Mission.
