No mention of female Hrothgar at all. :( I figured we wouldn't get them until 7.0, but I was just hoping for some sort of update regarding them.

Nothing too groundbreaking but that was a good collection of updates. The graphics stuff exceeded my expectations even with the early tests.

They will have to eventually address the fact that you'll need to play 5 games just to get to current content (without paying more) but guess that'll be further out. Making more stuff soloable probably pushes that out a bit further.

OT: I can't wait to see Hroth in the engine, might make my alt in Excalibur a Behemoth or Moomba looking one.

honestly it's only a problem if you consider it a problem. Most other competitors design these type of games with this kind of thing in mind where you just buy the latest thing and play that but they seem perfectly find with letting everyone just go through the content. They don't care to onboard people into season 5 of a story where you are given access to seasons 1-4.

I mean, they do already address it with story and level skips. All the language they used around the expanded trust was to make the game more inviting for people that "have played every FF except for XI and XIV."

Those kinds ofplayers should ostensibly be interested in experiencing the story that they feel they're missing out on, they're not going to be raiders wanting to skip to the latest high level content immediately.

Really happy with the graphical improvements and new stuff coming. Way excited for the future of ffxiv more than before. And GOD THE ENDWALKER OST IS TOO GOOD

Well once 7.0 releases, the entire MSQ dungeons you can solo with Trusts. So I don't really think they will ever allow players to skip (without doing the paying) to get to the current content.

In a way... Like players can hate it all they want. But I never got the impression that Yoshi-P wants players to rush to the current content or is trying super hard to get them there faster and faster.

Yes, it will make the game a harder sell as time goes on but unless their ethos change and their priority becomes: "We must get players to current content ASAP" I don't think they will give players a way to skip for free.

It also helps that daily roulettes/sync system make it easier to do older content without a huge inconvenience.

No Xbox client still.

PS5 client a lame duck because why put the work in when it's all being thrown away for 7.0 engine revamp anyway most likely.

Hopefully, these graphics updates are just the first in a series of updates over multiple expansions going forward.

The examples given looked like a PS4 remaster of a PS3 game. Which is good for now but not something that will carry the game all the way to the year 2032.

Any good recaps or summaries of the details? (Outside updated graphics as that seems to be the main talking point)

Don't expect FF14 to look like Horizon Forbidden West.

At this point, I think the only way Final Fantasy XIV comes to Xbox is if Microsoft buys Square Enix.

They were very clear that this was the first graphical update but also that they don't intend for this to be a showstopper graphical powerhouse of the game. They want it to be accessible for people on all specs of machines

If any system has issues, it'll be ones w/ integrated graphics, especially on laptops.

Man, Endwalker post-patches gonna be stacked with both content and QoL, an extra 2 weeks is nothing.

I was also thinking they'd do something to address how long the game is, like a new jumping-on point or have an optional abridged version of the game, but I'm pretty satisfied with their decision to stick with it and just make the new player experience through all the story content better paced and give options to solo all the way through. This would be the best time to have a new jumping-on point, but their priorities tell that they're confident in the game not needing to skip over the first overarching arc.

MMO's want less overhead to ensure the most amount of people can play it, this is why most MMO graphics look somewhat dated and always rely heavily on art style.

This is far more than a remaster, which are nearly all just whatever PC version was at the time on max settings, and maybe 4k or 60fps. They are rebuilding the engine to add features and update stuff that was never there. They had an entire slide and spent several minutes stressing this will NOT ever make the game have the visuals of a standalone game. Both because of the budget and strict time frame at which they have to produce content, and also because it's not feasible to make an MMO with 100 characters on screen at that fidelity with how many variable the game has.

FF11 is somehow still alive 20 years later. RuneScape too. The baseline they are aiming for will absolutely carry them 10 more years.

Was hoping for a story tease, but with the first 6.1 LL in two weeks I can wait. Been wanting to replay through the game, but will wait for the graphic overhauls.

Yea they seem to treat this as a long running manga/anime/series, so the entire 2.0 to 7.0 later IS the game you're playing.

Wait, are we expecting 7.0 soon? I figured it was still two years out.
EDIT
Thanks for the answers, I thought it would probably follow the same timeframe, just misread and misunderstood!

Midgar, With Love
Trusts for all the dungeons and four-person raids between now and 7.0. This makes me very happy. Not just because I'll prefer the game that way, but because I need three hands to count all the friends I know who won't play until and unless this happens.

It's still two years out.

So, I guess I never really thought about the fact that CBU3 is working on two numbered FF entries at the same time.... I'm assuming that's never happened before?
