You're given full creative reign over a project to create two Mt. Rushmores: one for actors, the other for actress, in recognition of their work over the past 30 years.

Who do you choose and why?

For actors and with notable performances from 1990-2020:

Robert DeNiro (Goodfellas, Casino, Irishman)
Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood, Phantom Thread, Lincoln)
Leonardo DiCaprio (Django Unchained, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood)
Tom Hanks (Cast Away, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood)

Top two there are all time great actors.

For actresses I'm not sure who else beyond Meryl Streep.

Bay Area
Tom Hanks
Leo DiCaprio
Daniel Day-Lewis
Gary Oldman

Meryl Streep
Kathy Bates
Glenn Close
Frances McDormand

This was tough, because a lot of these people made great content before 1990.

So instead of women being recognized, they get replaced with popcorn? Come on. This forum is better than that.

It's a reference to the On Cinema universe.

Daniel Day-Lewis, Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Will Smith

Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet, Charlize Theron, Laura Dern

Basically actors who I consistently enjoyed over the years. I would say these for me are the faces of the last 30 years.

Mount Rushmore has 4 faces, so I'm guessing we're limiting this to just 4 per monument right?

Johnny Depp, Tom Hanks, Leo Dicaprio, Russel Crowe

I tried to think of any bpoc actor beeing very succesful for the last three decades, but Sam jackson made way too much trash as well. Denzel really lacked the last decade. James B Jordan & John David Washington just started their careers in the last decade.

Actors:

Daniel Day Lewis (There Will Be Blood, Phantom Thread, In the Name of the Father, Gangs of New York, The Boxer)
Joaquin Phoenix (The Master, Her, Inherent Vice, You Were Never Really Here, Return to Paradise, Walk the Line, The Immigrant, Two Lovers, Quills, Gladiator, To Die For)
Phillip Seymour Hoffman (Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, Synecdoche New York, Capote, Mary and Max, Punch Drunk Love, State and Main, Magnolia, A Most Wanted Man)
Samuel L Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Black Snake Moan, The Hateful Eight, Django Unchained, Eve's Bayou, Jackie Brown, Jungle Fever)

HM: Tony Leung (In the Mood for Love, Chungking Express, Lust Caution, 2046, Flowers of Shanghai, Happy Together, Days of Being Wild, A City of Sadness if you go by US release dates), Willem Dafoe (Light Sleeper, Shadow of the Vampire, The English Patient, Antichrist, The Florida Project, At Eternity's Gate, The Lighthouse), Jim Carrey (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Truman Show, The Cable Guy, Man on the Moon, I Love You Phillip Morris), Jeff Bridges (Fearless, The Big Lebowski, The Door in the Floor, Bad Times at the El Royale, The Contender, The Fisher King)

Actress:

Juliette Binoche (Certified Copy, Blue, Code Unknown, The Flight of the Red Balloon, The Widow of St Pierre, The Lovers on the Bridge, Clouds of Sils Maria, Damage, The English Patient, Cache, Let the Sunshine In)
Nicole Kidman (Dogville, Rabbit Hole, The Portrait of a Lady, To Die For, Birth, Margot at the Wedding, Stoker, Australia, The Hours, Eyes Wide Shut)
Kate Winslet (LIttle Children, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Sense and Sensibility, Carnage, Quills, Holy Smoke, Heavenly Creatures)
Samantha Morton (Morvern Callar, Control, Synecdoche New York, The Messenger, Sweet and Lowdown, In America)

HM: Naomi Watts (Mulholland Drive, The Painted Veil, The Impossible, King Kong, I Heart Huckabees, 21 Grams), Julianne Moore (Far From Heaven, Vanya on 42nd Street, Short Cuts, A Single Man, Safe, Magnolia, Blindness, Maps to the Stars) , Gong Li (Ju Dou, Raise the Red Lantern, Farewell My Concubine, To Live, The Story of Qiu Ju, 2046, Memoirs of a Geisha)

Something like that. To be fair, I tend to look at the highs and ignore the lows. Anyone can make some crap. I'd rather an actor give 10 great performances in 50 tries than 5 great performances in 8 tries. Day Lewis is only here under those terms because his selective filmography is just that good.

The Equaliser films, Fences, and Flight > Everything Depp released in the 10s. Also Sam Jackson has more certifiable critical and commercial hits in the 10s than Depp. If releasing too much trash and lacking in the last decade gets you off of the list, how did Depp make yours? Lol

It's tough to narrow down because I would choose differently depending on the criteria of fame or personal preference. I think fame/quality you gotta go with the following:

Daniel Day Lewis
Tom Cruise
Tom Hanks
Leo DiCaprio/Will Smith/DeNiro (preference here)

Meryl Streep
.
. (a mix of the following)
.
Charlize Theron
Laura Dern
Frances McDormand
Kate Winslet
Glenn Close
Halle Berry
Reese Witherspoon
Julianne Moore

For actors, I would try my hardest to sneak in Joaquin Phoenix or Phillip Seymour Hoffman because I love both of them. Jeff Bridges would be cool too, I'm always amazed at how many awesome films he has been in. Samuel L. Jackson is a good call too. Honestly very hard to narrow down.

I thought that the initial pirates trilogy was filmed in the early 2010. I should have I sticked with Denzel for my Mt Rushmore.

Tom Hanks
Denzel Washington
Morgan Freeman
Daniel Day Lewis
Christian Bale

Not necessaroly "the best" but for me, has the highest likelihood of being excellent in excellent movies. (excepting DDL, he really is the enst, and MF who has randomly appeared in hot garbage lately.)

I weren't sure about DDL or Streep because they were getting nominated for awards in the 80s too.

I just need one Mt Rushmore

Gary Oldman
Sam Rockwell
Natalie Portman
Robert De Niro

These are pretty much the only actors where them being in something will get me to seriously consider watching it. I mostly watch movies based upon liking the director or looking like they have an interesting story but if you tell me that a movie has Sam, Gary, Natalie or De Niro then it definitely has my interest.

Tilda Swinton (a chameleon, transforming effortlessly into any role she plays. The side of a mountain could be one of her greatest)
Meryl Streep (can't argue with all those awards)
Cate Blanchet (almost deserves it for Blue Jasmine alone)
Isabelle Huppert (deserves far more recognition)

Samuel L Jackson (he's so prolific he can't not be there. A lot of it's junk sure, but he's never bad in anything. The Star Wars prequels don't count)
Joaquin Phoenix (matured into such a fantastic actor. His performance in The Master was just incredible)
Daniel Day Lewis (again, can't really argue with all those awards and acclaim)
Keanu Reeves (point break, speed, matrix, John Wick all through the decades. Sorry, but he's gotta be there, I don't care how many better actors there are :p)

I'm surprised by all the Meryl Streep posts, seems like the go-to answer to "great actress". I think she's brilliant but haven't seen a worthy performance since Doubt. Swinton, Adams, McDormant , Kidman, Moore and Blanhett have been consistently better imo.
