Maybe next weekend they can do 10.$6 million opening weekend on a $100 million dollar budget.
Meow?
We live in a society where good or even great cgi is so common that bad cgi really sticks out. It's not life-changing. Also, make sure you've seen the stage play. I hadn't and the film does not bother to introduce any of its concepts. I didn't know what the fuck a jellical cat was and was completely lost from the moment the first song started, which was about 40 seconds after the film started.
A legit 2. Not exaggerating.
You're gonna be like, "...the fuck?" Not just because the shit is silly at every turn, but because of the abject neglect shown towards very clear and visible elements of the CG. Mouse faces and bodies, roach faces and bodies, green screen, lighting effect and shadows on the railroad tracks that the character tap dance on. It was striking when compared to the clear care they generally took with the furn and ears and shit.
Though I never could square with how the main actress was always standing in an awkward as fuck pose. And I'm still mad Jennifer Hudson got to put in like 5 serious notes with her legendary voice.
The trailer looked hilariously bad so I'm not surprised. Looked like a ps2 cutscene$6 million opening weekend on a $100 million dollar budget.
Meow?

I feel bad for the vfx shops. They probably already under bid this to work on it. Now they're doing crazy ot through the holidays.
We need to strike. Sure juniors will cross the lines. But it will send a message. Not sure if it's too late or if anyone would even give a shit really. Almost everyone in the credits have a union minus the people responsible for the final images. It stings. Would America care if Hollywood said fuck vfx workers, we will get china and inda to do it. We don't deserve any conditions for vfx work? Dude that makes a wooden prop that's painted out and fixed in Maya has rules to use his damn hammer...
We work till the shop shutters, effective immediately.
Edit.
Oh yeah almost forgot the levity.
"I didn't know Bethesda made movies?"
I hope so. The good thing about Cats is that it has no chance to harm anyone's acting career because nobody will ever see it. It's like that secret sex tape that could be embarrassing but nobody will know it exists because it's sandwiched between some awkward fetishes in pornhub. We live in a society where good or even great cgi is so common that bad cgi really sticks out.
Don't worry about Hudson, she got RESPECT coming
It helps that everybody was in Cats. Might slow down Taytay's acting journey.I hope so. It wasn't just the CGI either. It was the way they were carrying themselves. Posing. Looking around start-eyed. Just nah. Never again. And it was like...don't even bother unless you've seen the stage play, the lyrics aren't clear and the themes are not explained. The first song starts about 40 seconds in and doesn't let up. If you don't know what a "jellical cat" is when you sit down in your chair, guess what? You're fucked. You have to figure out what the movie is about by nothing but context clues.
I remain shocked at how poorly this was made and the contrast between something like this and Chicago is striking.
Edit: Also that cockroach dance scene made me think I was watching the original ReBoot series.
I think I found the scene in question.
honestly, i think this is cool. i wouldn't mind them fixing stuff like broken CGI or audio issues. as long as it doesn't start changing scenes and plot. i swear if i start seeing adverts like "BOOK YOUR TICKETS NOW FOR LAUNCH DAY AND WATCH EXCLUSIVE SCENE!" i will probably just stop going to the cinema.
Here's the infamous scene - it's worse than I even imagined

and to think it wasn't enough time

The "patch" almost feels like a PR thing to trick people into thinking the movie wouldn't be as bad as it looked in adsOh no I'm bumping a Cats Thread, what has my life become.
But I gotta say, what happened to that patch, because I just watched the film today, and I gotta say....
This is still in the film, we still have Judy Denches Golden Ring visibly recognisable in the last song.
These Cockroaches are still as horrifying as they are in this shaky cam vid. And the Mice are arguably even worse.
So where's that patch, waiting for like a sing-along version to push it through?
I think the most shocking part of the film was how long the VFX digital lists was for the film.
And for those curious, it was MPC that did the VFX, which just closed their Vancouver Division (Although I believe it was the London Division that worked on this film).

I was wondering that too. I saw it on the 29th and the patch allegedly rolled out December 24th, but there was still a lot of glitchiness and stuff like feet not looking like they're connecting to the ground, collars not being tracked correctly, etc.Oh no I'm bumping a Cats Thread, what has my life become.

It was very, very rushed to reach the target release date. How did these bugs get missed in the first place...? Glitches in a videogame, whatever, but shit with the cats being human in one scene and then back to their CGI in the next...? That'd be like if an actor appeared naked in one scene randomly in the middle of a movie.
I really love that the Cats movie is a thing. When I was a kid we used to listen to the CATS album in the car on road trips... I don't even know why my mom was into it, but she was, and so it was either CATS or Carly Simon. And like a generation of young people grew up not knowing that torture or being confused about how bizarre CATS was. I thought CATS was so swierd when I as a kid, but it was something my mom liked so like... I didnt try to understand why she liked it, just thought, like, well, it's one of those weird things adults like. I'm glad this movie got made.

My only context for cats were the commercials from when I was young, but I am also glad they made this movie.
Aaah yes the CATS commercials... I think in the late 90s CATS did a secondary theatre tour after broadway an they advertised the fuck out of that during every break, "EXPERIENCE THE MAGIC AND MYSTERY OF ....... CATS..." (and then the Mister Mistopheles song would play). I didn't get it then, I don't get it now, but I'm happy it exists.

I was expecting 2 hours of that cockroach eating scene, but the whole movie was WAY tamer than that, and I actually enjoyed it! It's a shame the faces are so bad and this of all movies will now be infamous as THE TERRIBLE MOVIE for the next 5 years.
When your expectations are so low, that you actually see a mildly passing movie, in which you find yourself watching a cat lottery cult; you're like, well that wasn't that bad.
