I'm really glad I managing to snag the 20th Anniversary PS4 back when it dropped.

Packaging wise, the PS5 one this time around looks a bit basic and cheap. I prefer this mock up someone did way before we saw the console etc.

that looks worse than the PS5 box we got though

For me it's not only about the box design exterior - the unpack experience is almost more important.
XSX seems sleek and great, xbone was also OK..
My PS4 pro (RDR2 edition) was horrible tbh, brown mucus carboard and - yeah it kind of removed alot of the hype for me.. Definately not a premium experience.

That 500million edition is super classy tho, wish i had gotten one of those :)

Not counting special or limited editions, it's the PS2 box... and it's not really close.

God there was something MYTHIC about this box.

I remember shelling out $600 that I saved at Toys R Us to get a bundle with Armored Core II, X-Squad, Summoner, Madden 2001.

That box.
This. Some of the younger people here will just see a plain box, but to us, that box was everything lol. Console releases were so much different when we couldn't rely on online pre-orders and nearly everything we knew beforehand came from reading magazines.

Man, I will never understand the love for the PS2 box. It's just okay to me. The 20th Anniversary PS4 is fantastic though, and I like the Super Famicom box as well (and the (SFC Mini box replicating it was nice)

My personal favorite is always going to be the JP Saturn box, though:

It's the original PS2 box, and only that. Felt like I was opening a box of gold when it came out.

I unironically love the PLAY IT LOUD Gameboy packaging.

Just the dang thing itself and some 90's attitude.

Love the Japanese N64 and Super Famicom boxes. The Mega Drive was godlike in Asia too

PS2 is perfection. The absolute balls. Nothing else needed to be shown.

When it comes to consoles I love the orange GameCube. I've never seen the box itself though. Does it love up to the actual console?

Out of this thread the best ones are the DSi, the Game Box and the Dreamcast.

There's just something about these two... Just perfect.

It's like the White album. It's sayng that you don't need an image of what you are buying because you already know what it is.

The original xbox did the same thing. I'm a bit disappointed that series X went for the extreme closeup. It would have been cool if they made a box that looks like an upsized version of the console itself as just a featureless black tower. That said, the unboxing of the series X is by a wide margin the best thing ever. The way it opens like a treasure box and the console inside is wrapped up like a birthday present. Perfection.
