I'm listening now and I'm very disappointed. I knew I wouldn't be a big fan though from the songs released so far. It's just a Slowdive album. It drops what really made their sound unique. There are small glimpses of the old sound here and there but overall, they just made a shoegaze album. It may be a good shoegaze album but as a Deafheaven album, I'm thoroughly disappointed.

I love the sound it's going for - it feels like something straight from Brave New World. But yeah, the mix is so off-putting. Bruce sounds like he's underwater.
That white T looks great. As someone who doesn't wear too many band shirts (despite buying a ton of them) because they're always heavy black cotton, I am intrigued.
Accusations of abuse and racism have leveld against the bassist as well.

Seems like they're really embracing those post-metal influences this go round. Listening to Owls, plenty of moments put me in mind of Neurosis, so I'm not surprised.
This reminds me of my general grievance that there are way too many metal genres.
How else will you tell your neo-classical power metal bands from your progressive metal bands?
I honestly never felt that way and most genres (within Metal) absolutely make sense to me. Hell, even most sub-genres do. Metal genres aren't absolute categorisations with every genre being completely disjoint from all others, though. Of course there can be overlaps in the actual music, it would be really weird if there weren't (unless you would use objective measurements like "trve Black Metal has a dynamic range of at most 2" or something like that).

Anyone here started going to shows again? Am vaxxed and will be masking, but venues are small and close quarters.
with how are things going around here (only 50% adults vaccinated and number of cases is going skyhigh), there won't be any shows in a month's time. Until 2022.

I have two concerts booked, one in October and the other in December, luckily for me my local venues are requiring Vaccines so I'll feel safe especially since like you I'll be wearing a mask.
I've already paid for tickets to Gojira and Jinjer, and at this point, I'm hoping that they just get cancelled.
I've been vaxxed since April, so will probably have my booster by then, but I just don't feel comfortable around a bunch of people in close quarters in Florida.

Yeah I'm in MD which is okayish on cases, but there's no vaccination requirement. I have a nine year old daughter at home, so I don't think it's worth the risk.
My friends are playing a show in October. I want to go, but I don't trust the venue/bar here (NYC) to actually enforce the vaccine/mask mandates. Will see what happens I guess.
New Leprous album is fantastic, it's really unique and diverse, as already expected from the singles.
